Check Out My Best: Power to the Pavement 1/17/06

I had a job interview today for ITW (Illinois Tool Works), a huge company that develops and produces many, many things in the engineering field. I got this interview through Kettering University's Co-Op program.

Anyway, during the interview they asked me what hobbies I do. Usually videogames are something you don't want to mention, but I said that my latest hobby is photography, and my medium for it is something you would never believe - GT4 on the PS2.

Well, the guys at ITW were interested once I told them I ran a popular gallery on this site with my GT4 pictures - so during the interview I hopped on GTP and showed them my work and your comments :) Thanks to everyone who has ever replied! I'll keep you guys notified on whether or not I get the job, I think I have a great chance :)

Lol maybe a bit late reply on Perfect Balance and Kenny: Yes I'm 15 and I'm from holland.
I'm amazed by the fact you notice the way I use the language in my gallery and in other galleries lolz:lol: I wouldn't notice ANY difference.

And COOL about your interview Kenny, thats amazing:tup::cool:

Can you point out these spots to me? I did just add some general noise, it's a cheap camera. I also toned down the saturation to a bit lower than what I normally would have done.

I figure they're from Seattle;) It's a unique feel you only get at Seattle;). It's a guess though....

GREAT PICTURES!!

PERFECT BALANCE
Hey...............When's the Aston martin update coming? I want to see more pics of that car. So far I could only find a green one :yuck:

Oh.. it's coming. Kind of like that big heavy montrosity - it's coming slowly (due to my incessant need to smooth out pixels and keep the picture full size, unlike everyone else) but when it comes.... you're gonna KNOW!

Kenny, your gallery is one that, more than any other, really benefits from viewing the whole image. All this work on smudging and getting rid of individual pixels means you've got the full resolution pictures looking just as smooth as anything anybody else makes. For example, when you first updated with the prison break shots, I happened to skip the Aston pics. I finally checked them, and noticed the subtle changes to give it more of the hand-held camera look. Dedication 👍

Funny thing about the job interview story: I did something similar recently ;). I showed my personal web page and a few other things for a web design job I got last summer, and this summer, I showed some GT4 shots I'd been working on during an interview. Also, I'm trying to switch majors in university, and the Design course requires a portfolio/interview. I'm tempted to put some stuff (maybe a link to my gallery thread) in it.

Keep it up, and best of luck 👍

Amazing style used in the Shelby Mustang shots. The 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th ones really stand out. Good job. P.S. I'm stealing your 5th shot to use as my wallpaper. Your royalty check is in the mail.

...Dedication 👍

Damn straight.

Kenny, your gallery is one of the few that gets better with every update. The differences between your early work and the stuff you've been churning out lately are astounding, keep it up. 👍

How does one measure the success of a photo gallery? Is it by pages reached? Total views? Amount of photos?

Not at all!

Although I have a fairly large and popular gallery, I measure a gallery's success in three ways.

The first way is whether or not the photographer has improved. You can look back on my earliest material and see how far I have progressed. I went from knowing absolutely NOTHING about taking photos to, well knowing a little bit :P But seriously, when I bought GT4 I had no idea that this would become my next major hobby. As tabs eloquently pointed out, I really have improved.

Another way I measure the success of a GT4 photo gallery is whether people can enjoy the pictures. A gallery has to please the people in order for it to survive. I must say I think I have succeeded in entertaining GTP for a little while - and I'm glad you seem to like my style. :)

The final way I rate a gallery is by if it has brought something new to the table. What did I do differently than everyone else? That is the question. Everyone can follow a tutorial and learn how to be a photoshop master and we all can have the same perfect clean bright style. But, did I introduce a new type of shot? What concepts have I brought forth? What did I do FIRST? I really think I have introduced many new things to GTP that it possibly wouldn't be the same photo forum without this gallery of mine.

As people vanish for extended periods, their galleries drop further down the pages. People die, people move. But one thing remains - a photographer's legacy - his influence on the people still there. Hopefully you people remember this one for a while, before I drop off. I'm going off to college so this very well may be my last update to this gallery. So, I'm splurging in all - American excess. I will not have a PS2 at college, and I need all my little bit of money for emergencies and well to keep myself alive on my own. Plus I just won't have time to edit all these pictures. Picasa work takes like 2 minutes per picture but many of the ones you will see as you gaze through these pictures took an hour or more in MS Photo Editor to transform the image into what it should really have started out as. Smoothing out corners, fixing wheelwells, etc. And guess what? You'll NEVER know the extent of how much work I had to do to some of these to get them to their present state. At least GTP can appreciate close-up photos without jagged lines or nasty dots.

Due to the nature of this update, I urge you to take your time in viewing these. Don't just look at a few thumbnails and say "I liked number 3." Please, please, take your time and look at as many as your internet connection can afford you to do :sly: it's gonna be a looong time before I can do this again!

Thanks for making this a success! 👍

Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - Costa di Amalfi

I saved my favorite car in real life for last, although I took these pics at least a month ago. I absolutely love the combo.

All pictures edited in Picasa 2 and cleaned up in MS Photo Editor, except for the American Muscle ones which were edited in the GIMP.

I must thank my Lord Jesus Christ for helping me every step of the way and for me to share these with you. You don't know how many times after getting a feeling to press select at a random time I could up with a superb shot. I am nothing without Him :)

Thanks for viewing, and please leave a comment!

Kenny, the shot of the Merc with the cones in the way is my favorite of all the recent stuff, but I do like the set at Apricot Hill alot.

Biggest gallery update ever? I think so!

Kenny, I won't bother picking favourites with this, because first off, that's not what this update is about. Secondly though, there's just too many, and while I haven't looked at every one, I fully plan on it. I looked at a good portion, and just so many have been smoothed; I wish I had the patience to do that with my shots, and that's why I tend to limit my closeups. I did use a bit of nudge tool for a single shot of the Galant; I'm pretty sure with the eye for this stuff like you have, you could guess which ;).

I will pick sets; and I love the Celica, Scooby, and Aston picks (of course with that car ;)). I do hope you find a way to keep us all updated once you leave for school; I had the same problem last year, but was fortunate enough to get an early Christmas present in the shape of a slim PS2. I know it's selfish, but you have to stick around to keep me entertained ;). You're right, you are innovative, and your gallery should (and will) be remembered. I only hope I can bring something new to galleries here. That's the important difference once you put up a gallery; while your collection was originally for your amusement only, if you want any attention at all you'll need to appeal to the community, to bring something new and interesting to the table.

Amazing effort Kenny, and for me at least, it's not wasted one bit. You'll still be around the boards right? Just not having the time for your painstakingly-detailed shots? :)

👍

OMFG those are so freakin awsome:eek: It's too bad that for some all the good pictures distract from the VERY HIGH quality each picture has:drool::indiff: LOOK AT THEM GOOD. I'll spent the next 35 minutes looking at this;)

Didn't expect this kinda update...:drool::sly:

Edit: Ok, it was 15 minutes, but still I have saved your best pictures on my computer. I love em man:tup::drool:
I think one of the two night-like mercs are the best.

...guess it's who notices it first now....;)@kenny

You got an AMAZING gallery, kenny. Those last updates are quality and quantity top notch... all updates are. And you even gave me tips about the hobby.👍 👍 :D

But you'll be around this board??? :guilty:
Here's a THANKS from me. :dopey:

BTW amazing last picture of your gallery. A gullwing driving away into the night...

I totally agree with sejtur, THANK YOU from me too and you really left your gallery with one of the best shots I've ever seen.

What shall we do without these updates?

Everyone here, we mustn't let this gallery disappear to the bit space. Let's keep it up!

I'm speechless.

Well, not really. I could say how awesome, sweet or excellent your newsest pics are, but that wouldn't suffice. They are easily not only your best but some are the best on the forum. The Impreza, IS300, and 300sl shots are off the Richtor Scale.

Hey Greycap, it's more like rest in peace, this little thread had alot of influence.

You click on "new thread" think about how to post your welcome. You might imagine how long you'll be spending with this free thread your given. It's one hell of a cool place, thats for sure. You dont know if someone's gonna like your pics, though you really wanna blow everyone's head off.

And after some months you dont realize you just started with one click on "new thread", and a forum system giving you a link that'll stay up for....MONTHS or YEARS. Giving you on hell of a time:tup: You progressed alot, and gave the new ones very helpfull tips. Sometimes did a competition. Made some good friends;)

But then...it's not forever:(
Cya laterz kenny. But damn, you will be on MSN sometime huh?:( Send me a good bye email if you dont, I hate it when I just notice someone is not coming online anymore:guilty:

Wow, I scrolled right to the pics earlier, and missed the goodbye post. Sorry to see you go, but ENJOY college. What comes after is no fun at all. ;)

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

Sejtur, I am really glad you got the symbolism there of the last pic. Great eye. There's a couple other 'hidden' things, too.

I will still be able to browse people's galleries every once in a while but you are correct, I probably won't be able to upload my photos the same way unless I suddenly find a new PS2.
