If they make - lets say a tuk-tuk seasonal, the leader board domination might be diffenent...
________

Anyway, I did most drifting seasonals in GT5, but I can't remeber any of them was a difficult as this one.
I'm sure it makes beginners of drifting hate it pretty quick!
Gt5 drifting was easier. In GT6 it actually feels weird. Something about it just does not feel right. You can be drifting a corner perfectly.... Or so you think and the next minute BANG into a wall.

What kind of speed do I need to maintain to keep a drift going???? I got a Logitech Driving Force GT and I just can't get the hang of this.
In arcadey games with drift modes I just feather the throttle and tilt the wheel but this is just maddening- I use too much hand brake and I go 360, too little and I miss the turn FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUU-

Ok, I finally got gold and I wanted to pass along some notes to people like me, who, lamentably, were not born with the critical drifting gene. I squeaked by on gold after a couple hours.

Presenting...

THE POWERSLIDE POSTULATES OF ESTEEMED PISSED OFF PROFESSOR PRIVATEPOOP
(at least when applied to the 2014 Sting Ray Concept)
  • Putting both rear wheels out of bounds will stop counting points; putting all four out of bounds will cancel your score for that corner. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH FOUR LETTER WORDS TO CONVEY MY DISPLEASURE AT SETTING THE FIRST DRIFT TRIAL AT @#$&ING DAYTONA.
  • Drifts will only be counted when they are facing the corner. You can't zig-zag that last trap, the game will only count drifts facing left for that section.
  • Avoid entering a corner more than 100 MPH. I stopped paying attention to how fast I was entering, but it was generally between 70 and 90 miles an hour. Anything that much faster and I overshot the corner.
  • Use quick, tapping inputs of both the steering and throttle. Watching the top replay, it was clear he was using a controller. I found that prolonged inputs of any kind made it difficult to initiate a slide and almost always led to a loss of control, be it eventual or immediate.
  • Think of it like reeling in a pulley. Start the drift, use consistent hits of the throttle to keep the car moving, steer as you see fit.
  • Use COLOSSALLY STUPID AMOUNTS OF CAMBER. Also copied this off the top guy; I wept to see a car with wheels tilted so far inward (particularly a second-gen Corvette).
  • Tune the car for balance. You are inducing a loss of control and will want a car which behaves predictably. I tried piling on all the power upgrades, didn't work. I figured a torquey powerband would help get the car moving once it got slowed down in the drift, so I removed every power upgrade but the supercharger. I tried messing with weight ballast, but really I found it was best to keep a 50-50 ratio. I always try to reduce weight first, and so I used stage 3/window weight upgrades.

If you are using a G27 or similar setting the rotation to 240 degrees with this guide:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g27-g25-dfgt-undocumented-wheel-lock-settings-guide.286646/
Could help.

It helped me a lot. Use the handbrake to enter the turn, and balance after that. I am terrible at drifting but i finally got it, i even tried the controler. But i don't like it to drive.

Try to get the first sector with about 2000 points, this will make it possible to get the gold.
I restarted the lap if sector one was not good enough.

I really like the fact that drifttrials have started on GT6. 👍

I'm still learning how to drift with my wheel. As I just got my new shifter to my G27, I thought that I'd get gold and switch over to DS3 to try gettin up to those japanese guys. Wow was I wrong. It took me about an hour just to get bronze :banghead: before I changed to DS3 and got gold using my Corvette ZR1 C6 '09. When I went to bed last night I was at 20xxx points @ #107 using my C2.

One thing that really bothers me though is the fact that everyone at the top of the leaderboard is using stupid, ugly-looking amounts of camber. I just think it look ugly as 🤬. But it way better then letting people use any FF-car

Yesterday I was checking the leaderboards for this event and noticed that the world record's controller type was "AI". I have never seen this before, others had controller "Stick" as usual and some have 200 degree wheel.

He had AI drift for him or what? Or was it just a bug?

2 hours into this, still learning how to do this, 2 things are obvious:

1.) the car and physics model feel quite alright, it responds the way it it supposed to according to the inputs.
2.) the points system is completely retarded! you get rewarded for going wide and if you take the line you are supposed to, with the correct amount of speed and angle, you get points during half of the slide, the other half it just stops counting.:grumpy:

🤬 this, I'm at 19xxx now, think I can do 24xxx but there is no consistency to the points I get!:banghead:

Tune finished, all that testing back and forth, and all I can establish is: "harder=better":grumpy:

edit: up to 22 842 now, it seems to be working. I'm off to bed.

Wow!! An alien that sets super lap times and is an awesome drifter. Current position 63 on the leader board. Great work mate
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not an alien, I'm just a regular idiot who happens to be very fast. ti-tech, amo, immortal, etc. those are the aliens!:)

Nah.

Man, I just haven't been able to wrap my head around drifting in GT6. I was extremely successful in GTHD, and I really learned my technique in GT3. I figured out GT4, and was a solid competitor, top 50s or 100s in Forza 3 and 4. I figured it out in GT5, though I didn't compete on the leaderboards, but I also drive an sr20det powered 240sx in super rainy Oregon as my daily driver.

What I'm saying is, I absolutely know what I'm doing when it comes to drifting, but GT6 makes me feel like a 10 year old playing a driving game for the first time.

I feel your pain. Gt5 I can manage 30 000 points around Tsukuba. In Gt6 its a totally different story. But with practice I'm sure we can master it once again.

Its not the physics or the cars tho, its the way it counts those points that are retarded!:yuck:

Yeah, I just don't get it! I am assuming the feedback on my wheel, and the settings are feeding me information that doesn't align with my instincts, but I am baffled. I'm sure we can do it though!

I wish it was the same with me, it's an unfortunate combination of everything!

Seems to me the total points available have just been scaled down a good bit and they've eliminated a lot of the "junk" points which were available in GT5.

Maybe... Thing is they have made it impossible to earn points while facing the wrong way (i.e. you have to drift right in a right corner) wich makes the front wheel drive waving back and forth with the handbrake impossible (good). But they also made the angle of the car more important than the line and position of the car, and thats kind of stupid. Also, the optimum angle is about the same, but you get punished more if you step outside of it just a little bit. (that would be the "junk" points you are refering to?) If you do a perfect run, the points you score is about the same tho.;)

I score and drift almost exactly the same in 6 as I did in 5. But I am much higher up the leader board. Seems there are significantly fewer who drift.

The junk points were given for facing the opposite direction of the corner and for "clipping" the curbs. In 5, same corner, same drift....clip the curb get 10,000 points....miss it by an inch get 2000. Seems to me they've corrected that multiplier bonus.

All that being said, I'm not a Drifter. I only drift for the credits and paint. Gold is plenty good enough. Just happens that seems to be better in 6 than it was in 5.

I've never noticed the curb-multipier... I drift the same in GT6 as GT5, I get slightly less points and are slightly lower down the leaderboards (remove the crazy japanese invasion of the leaderboard top spots and I'm back where I was in GT5.:P)
