Looking at the angle of Ron's head & the front wheels of the Jag, it may have started as a drift but at this point, it's going, going, gone!
 
Aguri Suzuki in the middle of his 2007 race car fleet of Team ARTA (Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, founded in 1997) + the Super Aguri F1 car after the 2007 season in Suzuka. The NSX GT500 in the middle won that years Super GT championship in the GT500 class. Car was driven by ex-F1 drivers Ralph Firman and Yuji Ide + Daisuke Ito. Team ARTA is the biggest japanese motorsports team until today supporting drivers in many categories.

I've seen photos of behind the old pit lane at Sandown when it was between turns 1 & 2.

This is on par

Coincidence that both tracks were/are located inside a horse racing facility?

The Mini was run up and down Moor Lane, a long, very straight, flat two lane road alongside the Wraysbury Reservoir which which is now mostly buried under the M25 between the Staines and Heathrow T4/T5 exits."

No doubt trying to copy the Chaparral 2E from the same era. Wing design and shape is very similar and it looks to have some type of rotating mechanism.
 
I had no idea Patrick Tambay had Parkinson's Disease. RIP

His first stints in F1 were mixed, and then left out to dry in 1980. Getting back into F1 from Theodore, then Ligier, and suddenly a backup Ferrari driver. That win in Germany picked up their spirits after losing Villeneuve and Pironi is one of those rare feel-good stories that you don't see much of in Grand Prix racing, and it must have been a massive bit of redemption for Patrick.

Looks like it was a test of the mechanism rather than a test of the aero - some sort of manually activated DRS system i guess. I can't see any sensor equipment and the wink uprights are attached to the rear door hinges... I don't think a Mini van is going to reach speeds where any useful aero data could be gathered :lol:

Someone's going test the limits of their suspension, someone else is going to test the patience of the team owner, and someone's going the test the limits of censorship.

I just like the thrill of not knowing what happened, because it it could've been so many things.

With the original layout of Suzuka being much faster, thanks to a faster entry to both turn 1 and the Spoon curve, as well as the Degner curves being one long radius turn, and no chicane before the final turn, that 3m44s lap time must have been like 3m40s of flat-out motoring chess & mad slipstreaming.

The pic posted is clearly the hairpin where I'm betting most of the desperate manoeuvres were performed, but also keeping one's momentum was also key to one's laptime.
