Sick Cylinder License System

Some races hosted by Sick Cylinder are multi-class (typically two classes). Drivers are graded based on past performance so that slower drivers can be given faster cars. These license grades are: Platinum for past winners of Sick Cylinder championships - there are currently four drivers in this category (although one, Rehdogg is not currently racing with us). Gold for drivers who have shown consistent speed - there are currently seven drivers in this category. Silver - normal drivers (including Sick Cylinder).

Silver and Gold licenses will be reviewed during the course of this championship.

"1967 Three Ten Cup" - The Detail

This series was inspired by the colour, spectacle and diverse range of cars competing at Le Mans in 1967. I wanted to reproduce that colour and spectacle and feature some of the more interesting entries by using substitute cars from the GT6 car list. Another aim was to give Silver License drivers the opportunity to race the Ford GT40 MK1 in a friendly specification (310bhp) against expert drivers (Gold and Platinum) in slower multi-class cars. Where possible, the original race numbers and paint shades have been specified in order to produce an authentic experience with the best possible race photos. Detailed guidance is contained later in this post on how to make each replica.

Below: For 1967 Ford entered four Mark 4's, three GT40 MK2B's and three GT40 MK1's.

1967 Fords.jpg

As well as the big Fords and Ferraris, the race featured a diverse field including a Shelby GT350, Chevrolet Corvette C2 L88, Lotus MK47 (Europa), Austin Healey Sprite Le Mans, Ferrari 275 GTB/C and numerous Porsche 906 models in a range of versions.

1967 Le Mans Compilation.jpg

Above: Action from 1967 including
1. Shelby GT350 being lapped by Ford Mark 4.
2. GT350 followed by Lotus MK47 1.6 litre.
3. GT350 followed by Chevrolet Corvette C2 L88 7 litre.
4. Number 12 Lola Aston Martin chases number 14 Mirage M1, number 28 Ferrari 275 GTB/C, number 37 Porsche 906 and number 9 Chevrolet Corvette.
5. Austin Healey Sprite Le Mans about to be lapped by the Corvette.
6. Number 15 Mirage M1 was powered by a 5.7 litre Ford engine.
7. Corvette behind yellow Ford Mark 4, number 11 Lola Aston Martin, number 62 GT40 MK1, number 20 Ferrari 330 P4 and number 5 GT40 MK2B.

1967 Silver Car Guide.jpg

Note Error - the Mirage M1's should be race numbers 14 and 15 not 11 and 12.
1967 Gold Car Details.jpg

Gold and Platinum drivers compete in GT3 or GT5. There will be at least three and not more than six drivers in each category. Gold and Platinum drivers change cars at round 5 and 9 so that they compete in each of the three cars in their category during the championship. Each round features two races for the "1967 Three Ten Cup".

Tips on preparation of the Chevrolet Corvette - fit the full race exhaust system - this will add white sidepipes like the original race car. Tips on preparation of the Shelby GT350 - fit the full race exhaust and make external modifications which increase the size of the radiator inlet - these changes will create an appearance closer to the original race car.

Silver drivers use the same car for all rounds.

1967 Room Limits.jpg

Three drivers championships are scored: Overall, GT3 and GT5. The three championships will be shown on one table with three separate champions crowned at the end of the season - it is unlikely, but possible for a GT driver to win the overall championship.

The Ford GT40 can now use SH / SH tyres or CS / SH according to driver preference.

The Ferrari 250 GTO can now use SM tyres.

"1966 Sports Car Cup" - The Detail

This series was inspired by the colour, spectacle and diverse range of cars competing at Le Mans in 1966. I wanted to reproduce that colour and spectacle and feature some of the more interesting entries by using substitute cars from the GT6 car list. Another aim was to give expert drivers (Gold and Platinum) the opportunity to race the Ford GT40 MK1 in an exciting specification (485bhp) in a multi-class competition against slower (Silver) drivers in faster cars. Where possible the original race numbers and paint shades have been specified in order to produce an authentic experience and the best possible race photos. Detailed guidance is contained later in this post on how to make each replica.

Below: No less than eight factory Ford GT40 MK2A 7 litre cars were entered in 1966 backed up by a further five GT40 MK1 4.7 litre cars.

1966 Ford GT40 MK2 Lineup.jpg

Gold and Platinum license holders drive the Ford GT40 MK1 painted and numbered to replicate the original entries.

Silver license holders drive the Jaguar XJ13 painted and numbered to replicate an imaginary Jaguar team and also replicas of the Matra MS620 BRM's and the Serenissima Jungla Spyder. There will also be an option for one person to drive the Chaparral 2D which competed in 1966 and up to two people to drive the Ferrari 330 P4 which is posing as a P3 in our race series.

1966 Ford Rivals.jpg

Above: Action from 1966 including
1. Chaparral 2D
2. The famous and controversial Ford 1,2,3 photo finish which deprived Ken Miles of his rightful 1966 triple crown (Daytona 24 hours, Sebring 12 hours Le Mans 24 hours).
3. 1966 Jaguar XJ13 - during testing the car had produced times competitive with early versions of the GT40 MK1, but Jaguar didn't have the money to race and the project was canned.
4 and 7. Matra MS620 was powered by a 1.9 litre BRM V8.
5. Ferrari 330 P3 featured a 4 litre V12 motor.
6. Serenissima Jungla Spyder was powered by a 3.5 litre ATS V8.

1966 Car Details Gold & Platinum Drivers.jpg

1966 Car Details Silver Drivers.jpg

Drivers use the same car for all rounds of the championship.

Below: Room Limits - the Ford GT40 is tuned to 485 bhp which matches the 1966 MK2A 7 litre. The Chaparral has better handling than the other cars and hence was limited to a lower PP level (Note: Chaparral increased to 581PP following additional testing to allow driver John Wells to be more competitive).

1966 Room Limits.jpg

Two drivers championships are scored: overall and Ford GT40's. It is possible, but unlikely that a GT40 driver could win the overall championship. Both championships will be scored on the same table with two champions crowned at the end of the season.

GT Planet OLR Rules

All drivers are expected to follow the GT Planet OLR Rules - in addition the following rules will apply.

Rules

Races will be held each Sunday starting at 17:00 GMT. (During the period of British Summer Time - March to October - meetings will be held one hour earlier 16:00 GMT = 17:00 BST).

The race meeting will last for slightly less than 2 hours. If the meeting is over running (perhaps due to disconnections) the Host may shorten races or cancel the final race of the meeting as appropriate.

There will be approximately 5 minutes practise and 5 minutes qualifying before each race (this may be extended subject to track length). The grid order will be fastest qualifier first. There will be one race for each championship each Sunday.

Each race will be on the tyres specified with no driving aids except optional ABS (which most drivers set to 1), edge grip will be real and race starts will have false start check. Penalties off, damage light, slipstream real, no boost. Driving Line will be available if required.

Some of us have been racing every Sunday since the beginning of GT5 i.e. several years. All drivers are expected to drive in a considerate, careful and mature manner - this includes always driving in the correct direction and no doughnuts (donuts). All ability levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced.

All Drivers are expected to follow the hosts instructions regarding the race meeting at all times or in his absence the instructions of the Deputy Host (Note, Deputy Hosts include @LexLathor and @IfAndOr).

The Cars: - No wings or spoilers can be added unless specifically stated.

Paint should be in age appropriate colours e.g. solid or metallic only, no chrome or polarized finishes.

Wheels should be age appropriate for the car and in standard size - if wheels or colour are inappropriate the host will request that the driver change them before the next round (on this car standard wheels should not be used). If the type of wheels and / or their colour is specified in the thread, this guidance must be followed.

Where possible bumpers should be removed in order to enhance the race look.

Bonnets if lightened must be in body paint colour unless specifically stated.

Any tuning is allowed subject to specified PP, minimum weight and maximum power limits.

Race numbers must be fitted (if the vehicle allows for this) and must be Type A, Font A.

Deputy Hosts / Stewards

@LexLathor @IfAndOr @Flaco13 @eran0004 @Manasseh257NSX

Photographs
Photographs of the race action are positively encouraged. Race reports and photographs taken by the official race photographers (@IfAndOr and @LexLathor ) will be published in this thread.

Signups
Please sign up by sending a message to Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via GTPlanet. Note: Drivers already competing in the current championships hosted by Sick Cylinder are automatically signed up.

There will be up to 16 regular drivers in the championships plus up to 6 reserve drivers.

Absence / Unable to attend races

If you know that you will be unable to attend certain rounds please inform the Host. It may then be possible for a reserve driver to fill your slot on the grid. If you no longer wish to participate in the championship the first reserve driver will fill your grid slot and will drive the same type of car.

Reserve Drivers

If the grid is full you can sign up to be a reserve driver. You will be able to race when a regular driver is absent and the grid therefore has a vacant slot. If a regular driver leaves the championship you will be offered that drivers slot and will become a regular driver using the same type of car as the original regular driver was using (or was scheduled to use).

If a driver is absent for three consecutive rounds he will be deemed to have become a reserve driver.

Questions

If you have questions regarding the races or comments about quality of driving or other problems etc, please raise these after the meeting with the Host Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via the conversation facility on GTPlanet. Please do not raise complaints during the meeting as this is very distracting for other drivers. Also it is best to raise points with a cool head after having had time to consider the matter.

It is best to reserve postings on this thread for race photos, race reports, links to good tunes or other helpful tips on cars in the car list. Posts about motorsport, cars, motorbikes or other motorised vehicles are also welcome if they are likely to be of interest to GT Planet readers.

Room Etiquette / Voice chat - this section only applies when voice is enabled (Currently we are running with voice disabled as this appears to reduce disconnections by allowing more bandwidth for racing).

If drivers speak to each other they should use the PSN name even if they know the drivers real name. All conversations should be in English. Please refrain from talking during races or qualifying as some drivers may find it distracting.

If Voice chat is enabled during races, the purpose of the voice chat is to enable the leaders to indicate when they are approaching and about to lap another driver. The horn can also be used by the lead driver when about to lap another driver. No offence should be taken by the use of the horn - in this case it is purely a warning signal. To avoid confusion the horn should not be used at any other time including while stationary on the grid. Some drivers do not have microphones or their spoken English may not be good - this does not matter and they will not be discriminated against - they can use the horn to warn the driver in front that they are about to lap. Use of the horn for any purpose other than that outlined may result in a warning and or penalty.

Voice chat will also enable a driver to indicate if he intends to carry out a pitstop. The procedure will be that at the start of the lap on which he intends to pit, the driver will say his name and that he is pitting at the end of this lap. He will also say that he is about to pit when approaching the pit lane. The driver will also announce when he has left the pits and rejoined the track - while doing so he will endeavour to stay inside the white lines when rejoining.

For example in my case on crossing the start line I would say "Sick pitting on lap ten". On approaching the pits I would say "Sick entering Pits". On rejoining the race I would say "Sick rejoining race". If a driver is about to be lapped, he should hold a steady course and if possible momentarily lift off the throttle so that the faster driver can pass.

Race Room Settings
Start type = Grid start with false start check (this means hold car still with brake until start)
Grid order = Fastest First (this means start in order of practise lap time)
Boost = off
Penalty = Off
Tyre / Fuel depletion = normal (try to avoid drifting round corners)
Grip reduction on track edge = real
Minimum number of pit stops = as specified (Note we are currently not using pit stops as we have suffered from the "Trapped in Pits Bug" on many occasions).
Require tyre type change = off (this means you can stick with one grade of tyre)
Race finish delay = 180 seconds (there will be a wide range of abilities of driver) - NB this is not used when Endurance is selected.
Visible damage = off (this prevents spoiling the look of photos)
Mechanical damage = Light (if you have a crash the damage will repair itself)
Slipstream strength = Real
Tyre = As specified
Nitrous = Prohibited
Vehicle Tuning = No Limit (but check BHP, KG and PP limits) Or Prohibited as specified.
Skid recovery force = prohibited
Active steering = prohibited
Active stability management = prohibited
Driving line = available if required
Traction control = prohibited
ABS = available if required (if racing without ABS, please take extra care not to skid into other cars)

PIT STOPS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Note pit stops not currently in use.
There will be one compulsory pitstop to change tyres in races exceeding 20 minutes in duration unless stated otherwise. If pit stops are in use tyre wear will be set to fast.

If you fail to take a pitstop the game will automatically give you a 50 second penalty.

You can take your pitstop on any lap apart from the last lap.

If you take your pitstop on the last lap the host will give you a 30 second penalty (Unfortunately this is necessary due to an error in GT6 which fails to conduct a proper pitstop on the final lap).

No pit stops will be held if the track does not have a pit lane (e.g. London) and tyre wear will be slowed from fast to normal.

Championship points
We will use the MotoGP points system as we have in previous championships as this awards points down to 15th place as follows and offers an appropriate differentiation for higher placings:

1st = 25
2nd = 20
3rd = 16
4th = 13
5th = 11
6th = 10
7th = 9
8th = 8
9th = 7
10th = 6
11th = 5
12th = 4
13th = 3
14th = 2
15th = 1
16th = 0

There are two individual championships running simultaneously, therefore it is possible that one driver could win both championships. In the event of a points tie the champion will be the driver with the greatest number of 1st place finishes - if this is tied, it will be the driver with the greatest number of second place finishes etc. and so on. The scores from the two lowest scoring rounds will be deducted before the final scores are declared - this enables a driver to be absent from two rounds or have two bad rounds without it affecting his final points.

Bad internet connections / PS3 Problems
If the Host is disconnected by an internet or PS3 problem, the Deputy Host (@LexLathor will Host the meeting.

If a driver leaves a race after it has started due to an internet or PS3 problem the Host will award points equivalent to a last place finish in the race.

If a driver has a bad connection such that his or her car is lagging excessively and unpredictably the Host may ask the driver to leave and re-enter the room.

To reduce the risk of bad internet connections all drivers should empty their system cache before the race meeting starts and before re-entering the room if disconnected.

Practise - A series of practise / test races will be held during Round 0 - these are not part of the championship, but are an opportunity to check room settings and test cars. After the championships have been completed another practise / test meeting / Round 0 will be held before the start of the next championship.

So no swapping cars in this series?:)

No - The series is already complicated by using the original race numbers and paint colours so I have cut out the car swapping except for the Gold drivers in GT3 or GT5 in the 1967 Three Ten Cup.

If you would like to swap cars from the Chaparral 2D to a Jaguar XJ13 at the half way point, round (7) I will be happy to share and swap cars with you. If so send me a private message.

With aero kit B the Mk 1 GT40 gets the same hood as the Mk 2 GT40. Perhaps we could use that aero kit on the Mk 2 cars?

The Ford GT40's MK 1 and 2 use the standard front. The Mark 1 uses the metal grille rear and the Mark 2 uses the air scoop rear. The Mirage M1 uses the single outlet nose with metal grille rear. The Lola T70 uses the double outlet nose with the standard rear. I've set them this way so that the cars can be differentiated and also to try to make the replicas look as authentic as possible. To avoid any doubt I've posted pictures below:

It's a good idea for each driver to post a picture of their 1966 and 1967 cars on the thread for checking purposes.

Thanks guys.

The single outlet nose would be the most authentic option for a Mk 2 GT40 though:

I think the standard option was only used for Mk 1 cars.

I think the standard option was only used for Mk 1 cars.

The game adds winglets to the non-standard fronts which is why I have reserved those options for the Lola T70 and Mirage M1 which had winglets. It's a shame that the game doesn't give us options without the winglets.

Hopefully Polyphony Digital will give us an actual Mark 2.

Sick this looks awesome.

For clarity, can you please confirm I have understood the following cars I will be racing;

Corvette C2, number 99, Le Mans blue, Torque Thrust wheels. 485pp, 310BHP, 1122kg on SM tyres.

MK1 GT40, number 14, Tartan Red, standard wheels, 581pp, 485BHP, 994kg on SM tyres.

Think I've got it right, but want to make sure.

Thanks Buybon.

After checking your cars I realise I have made a mistake - the Lotus MK47 replica raced in Category GT5 should be the premium Lotus Europa (the one which accepts racing numbers) - this is the Lotus Europa Special - I will correct the table asap.

Buybon - your Ford GT40 is correct and is used in the "1966 Sports Car Cup". In the "1967 Three Ten Cup" you are racing in category GT5 so will need 3 cars. Round 1-4 = Shelby GT350 race number 71 original white with blue stripes + torq thrust wheels (480PP, 310BHP, 1043KG), Round 5-8 = Lotus Europa Special (Lotus Cirrus White) race number 88 + torq thrust wheels (532PP, 310BHP, 649KG), Round 9-12 Corvette C2 (Le mans blue - Chevrolet named the colour after the one used on this car by "Mr Corvette" Dick Guldstrand and Bob Bondurant) race number 99 + torq thrust wheels painted Moondust Silver (485PP, 310BHP, 122KG).

According to this picture the car was really metallic gold :drool:

Mine looks brown in comparison... :crazy::D

As long as you use metallic Olympic Gold from the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 your colour should be pretty accurate. The photos from 1966 and 67 show big variations in colours because of exposure levels, film deterioration and different processing. For comparison the middle shot below is my replica number 5 using Olympic Gold - it's worth checking your paint as mine has a more metallic gold look. The top photo is from 1967 (the car has had white stripes added to match the style used on the Mark 4 above). Bottom picture taken during the race in 1966 (pink or bright green identification marks were added to some cars just before the race).

Below before the 1966 Le Mans - Bucknum Hutcherson car on trailer. It's difficult to imagine today a valuable Le Mans Prototype being ferried around on that type of trailer and not cosseted inside a beautiful fully liveried transporter.

Hi Daniel - great pictures!

It's difficult to tell from the picture if the number 7 GT40 (Graham Hill & Brian Muir) is Moondust Silver (from Ford Ka) - if so it's fine. below is the real car. Just before the race the front of the car was painted black (presumably to aid identification) instead of the original very elegant looking silver with black stripes. Graham Hill led the race during the opening laps. You can clearly see the two regulation FIA luggage boxes at the back of the car. During the race the mechanics mixed up the wheels so in some race shots the car features gold front wheels and silver rear wheels!

ford-mkII-7-LM66-4.jpg

Your other cars are fine, but please add the full race exhaust to the Corvette (I will add this guidance to the thread) it will add white side pipes like the original car.
