Wow, that's a pretty exciting finish for the series! 1 point difference over 12 rounds and 2 cars.... Amazing!! Congrats to both champions
The last race of the series was pretty intense for me as well. Unfortunately, Eran, Suts, and Harsk weren't able to make the last race, which opened the door for me to move up (potentially) 3 spots from being tied with John Wells for 10th place. After analyzing the points I knew I needed to get 16 points to equal Suts. That would be a tough job to pull off!
I spent a fair amount of time on my setup, and I ended up having a revelation about how to setup a transmission properly. I had been using "realistic" ratios before and I could only really use 4th and 5th gear otherwise it would spin like crazy. Well, I decided to experiment with the tranny flip and noticed that Exeter tunes his cars with the same tranny flip. When I tried it, it was great for keeping the revs up high near the redline, but with all the power add ons my 'Cuda made its power at 3500 rpm and the torque fell off considerably from there, whereas, the hp stayed at 370 throughout the rev range. So to get max power to the wheels I wanted my shift points to be much lower. I tried a few different flip points, and got it where I wanted it. I wish I had figured how to do that earlier in the season!
I managed to qualify 4th which put me in contention for my goal of finishing 3rd place. I got a pretty good start and got up to 3rd by the first corner. I followed Buybon for the first lap and managed to pull of a pass that took 3 corners of door to door action to get by him! All of a sudden I realized I was in 2nd! The pressure was on and I was sweating! From there it was all about consistency, I managed to run mid 17's all day long, and a couple of times when I dropped into the 18's Buybon was right on my tail. Fortunately, I didn't make any mistakes and managed to stay in front of Buybon for the whole race. It was intense though!
I was extremely happy with how I drove and how I finished. In the end I managed to secure 7th place in the championship! I jumped 3 spots on that last race and Im quite proud of myself! I do take it with a grain of salt though because if there wasn't so many absences I probably wouldn't have been able to pull off 7th place...
The Points Table illustrates some interesting points battles that happened, here's a few that apply to me;
I noticed that Suts and I ended with the same points for the Gordini @31 points, but I had half as many races. Congrats to
@John Wells who scored 41 points with the Gordini and was the best driver in that car for the first half of the season!
Congrats to Buybon who was the best driver in second half of the season in the 'Cuda with 68 points. I managed 59 points with one less race, and Suts had 55 with one less race than Buybon as well.
I really wish my schedule would have allowed me to race the Gordini more as I had a love/hate relationship with that car.
The first race at Mt Paranoia, erm Mount Panorama, was really frustrating and disheartening for me. I only earned a last place finish in that race. Then
@suzuka I somehow managed to dominate the field in the same car... and then the summer hit and my schedule went out the door and I couldn't race the Gordini again.
Overall, I really enjoyed that season of racing and Im looking forward to the next series, especially since I haven't been playing AC as much as I thought I would. Its just not as good as GT6 because it doesn't have custom lobbies, or worldwide Leadboards, or even seasonal events like in GT6. I need competition, the AI is a poor substitute, and hot lapping so that I can brag to...myself, about how well I did doesn't appeal to me. If I wanted to beat myself all the time I'd go to the bedroom to take care of that
But then again Im getting PCars GOTY next week, and from what I have heard the physics aren't as good but there's a community of involved players just like for GT6 so I might be able to find some competition there....
Either way, I won't be selling my PS3 anytime soon.
Thanks
@Sick Cylinder please keep doing what your doing!
