Classics Derby Challenge- on Leguna Seca

Over the last 3 weeks I have been creating the funniest :crazy: challenge and having a blast testing it!

Here is the Challenge:

Race American Muscle cars of the 60's and 70's in the Leguna Seca Muscle cars race: You have 2 types of races to compete in.

1) 1st take a stock (completely stock- not even different tires) muscle car and try to win the race.
A) Race as in a demolition derby, no holds barred- no rules except the previously mentioned stock entry and post your best demolition place and time with as many cars as you wish. The replays will provide you with some of the craziest footage GT2 can provide!
B) Race with all your technical realistic driving skills (ie. no wall touches, no AI bumping, and no more than 2 wheels off the track at any one time. (rumble strips and 1st corner short cut on pavement are legal) Post the place you finish, lap times and best total time on the 2 lap race with as many stock muscle cars as possible. Good luck! You may need it because the AI in this race play rough.

2) Tuners, this your opportunity to shine. Let's see if you are good enough to tune/upgrade a muscle car and win this race on simulation tires. Tune your engine, suspension, drivetrain and anything you want but you must use simulation tires.

A) same as for 1A above but car can be tuned.

B) same as for 1B above but car must use only simulation tires, yet can be tuned.

* For the purpose of this race muscle cars are defined as American cars from the 60's and 70's with the exceptions of the Ford GT40, and the Shelby Cobra's, (Coupe or Daytona).

Post times in the following format for simplicity:

1) A) Times/Car/Place
1) B) Times/Car/Place
2) A) Times/Car/Place
2) B) Times/Car/Place

If you want to compete in one section just include the sections you participate in.

Good luck, now lets see those times and replays!

Edit: **Please just edit your page to post more times and cars to maintain organization.

Nice driving AngelCreator!👍

I have a hard time even making a legal race without bumping AI. or sliding off the track, etc. in this race.

Do you know what place you finished in any of those races?

sucahyo
can I race using GT40 :) ?

Hi Sucahyo. You're a funny guy!
I need to refer you to my notable exceptions at the bottom of the thread starter. Sorry,:( no GT40, Shelby Cobra nor rShelby Cobra. I would love to see what you can do with a tuned car especially with the simulation tires though!

Oops, I overlook that.

This race requires skill more than tuning :ouch:
even when I use 51 TSCC, stock flywheel, stock driveshaft, 5.500 final drive , I still get wheel spin in 2nd gear  .

I got 1st place in both races:crazy:.It was hard.

How do you like the AI trying to take you off the track on every corner?:scared: Oooh! It is tough for me too.:ouch: I have yet to complete a race in section 2)B) legally and even my one race on 1)B) was a little shady, getting pushed off by AI and only having one wheel on the track! My Father, has been trying it for a week and just got his first win in the demolition race 1)A). I will post his times when he gets them to me. I hope you are having as much fun as I am.:D

So is it still easier for you to drive the stock race than the tuning race on sim. tires? I have truely wondered if someone can actually tune a car well enough on sim. tires to beat the best stock car times.

Yes, but I will try again with '69 stingray, maybe 27" tire will help, compare to GT350 23" tire

*Edit*
It is, I have faster time in '69 stingray. Little better in corner in simulation tire. But my tuned stingray time still never faster than stock :( .

You are the only one to complete a 1)B) or 2)B) race complete and clean yet. Also, You're the only one to get your sim. tire tuner car to have a better time than your stock car! How did you do it?:boggled:

Edit: Sorry, I mis-read your post, thinking the 2nd one said 2)B).

Not getting bumped or accidently bumping AI has been the hardest part of this challenge for me. What is traditionally considered illegal? Is it still legal if the AI car is the one who hits you? Or is any touch of AI cars illegal? What about accidental contact vs. slamming the AI. cars on purpose. I haven't heard all the details to this type of discussion before. This race is hilarious in the way that the AI cars are always sliding out, crashing into me and spinning on the 'Cork Screw'. I love it!:sly:

Corvette 427 Stingray '69 (27" tire) is faster than Shelby G.T. 350 '66 (23" tire). My laptime is 2 second faster on '69 stingray. Corvette Stingray '69 has 23" tire so it has slower lap time too.

about rule I think bump is ok, as long as we don't lean on them.

Wow, this sounds cool! I've also been racing nearly stock muscle cars when I do the 3 muscle car races (I allow myself a semi-racing suspension and sometimes a full-modified tranny as well cuz some of those muscle car trannies blow for circuit racing). Don't let this thread die, guys. I wanna join whenever I get some freakin' free time!

You got your simulation tires 69' Stingray to run faster than the stock version. 👍 Nice job, I will have to try this some more.

Edit: I am sorry, you have faster times with your stock cars too. I must be rushing through lately, feeling the burden of studying for my Chemistry class homework and missing details.:dopey:

👍

Um.....:confused::confused::dunce:,What do you mean?

Sorry man, I must have mis-read your post. I see now that you have only raced with stock cars. Nice times though!👍 Do you think you can win in Section 2)A)and B) as well on simulation tires?

Awesome, Parnelli!:D I was wondering when you were going to show up? I was afraid that maybe, this wasn't your type of race or you just got tired of GT2 for a minute:crazy: . I am anxious to hear about your adventures in this one. I have had so many almost great races only to be taken out on one of the last 4 corners of the race! :(  :scared:

I did try that,:nervous::(But i didn't do too good.

I understand why! It is very challenging. Though, I think that I have a Challenger that is good enough to win it now. I tried just a few attempts last night fully tuned on sim. tires and took third place.:indiff:

Edit: I am still surprised that no one has beaten the best stock car times with a simulation tire fully tuned car. I have toyed with it and know virtually nothing about suspensions and have come fairly close.

Okay I'm gonna do this challenge several times in different cars. Here's my first one.

I tried an Aston Martin DB6...which is an English muscle car (just try racing a stock one, you'll see what I mean..your maneuverability will be about 2% of what a stock Silvia can achieve!)

By my rules: 3:18.963 total time... 1:41.149 1st lap 1:37.814 2nd lap. I used full power (394 hp@6,400 rpm) but also stock tires & differential + semi-racing suspension. This race was mildly challenging for me during the first lap but the 2nd lap was uneventful because by then I had managed to get a good lead. Got some drifting done.

1a: I think this is the entirely stock category. Anyways, this was a lot more challenging. My original DB6 had Weight Redux 2, so I bought a second black DB6 and left it stock. Without those extra horses (a stock DB6 packs 328@6,100 instead of 394) I lagged behind and really had a fight on my hands! But being the master of bad-driving cars that I am, I managed a 4th place win. In lap 1 after poorly navigating turns 2 and 5, I was in last place, but everything changed at the corkscrew. This is when the 3rd place Plymouth Roadrunner (aka Muscle Car) got sideways and the '72 Barracuda (it's not a '70 like the game says) smacked him. A '67 Stingray also got caught up in the melee. Fortunately I only tapped the 'cuda's bumper at the top of the corkscrew. The rest of the way down I had a clear path straight to 3rd place!

Somehow, the Roadrunner got by me in the final 90° bend without even scraping my side...that's a rare moment, folks. Anyways, I never caught him. He kept ahead of me with his 429 hp V8 Hemi and without a good suspension I was plagued with a poor pavement response, hence my 4th place finish. Besides the 3-car pileup in lap 1, this wasn't much of a demolition!

Race 2 on Sim Tires:

woooboy. I was back in my original green DB6! Got a racing suspension for it, too. I no other choice! With a full-customized diff. installed, I could get rid of the power issues (spinning wheels out of those tight corners) but had waaay too much understeer. Brakes were tweaked...still too much understeer. Raised rear dampers and ride height. AGH! Finally, I got somewhat of a compromise.

Springs: 7.8 / 8.3
Ride: 118 / 129 mm
B. Damps: 7/4
R. DAmps: 2/5
Camber: 2.9° / 0.8°
Stabilizers: 2/4

Brakes: 11/16
Tranny: Close gears (Sports)
Limited Slip: 5/18/14

Ugh. I totally lost this race! That's right..6th place..King of the Loozahs. The poor DB6 has no cornering left whatsoever...matter of fact, it wouldn't turn at all unless I braked way before each turn...and STILL it would be skidding or understeering towards the wall. In shame, I pulled into the pits on the 2nd lap. I think I actually woulda done better without a limited-slip installed because without it, the DB6 can actually TURN.

Anyways, I will do these again...this time in AMERICAN MUSCLE! :D

Hey PB, I very much enjoyed your post! I felt like I was there. Thanks for the ride. ;) Sorry, I haven't been around much. Chem. 2 has been demanding all my time. I have got to get the gold if you know what I mean. I will be back again after finals in May. Good Driving.👍 :sly:

Yeah, it just goes to show how poor the Aston Martin DB6 was as a race car. I'd like to try this challenge in a better handling British car, too bad the stock challenge would mean i'd be left in the dust in my unmodified Elan!

Anyways I'm having a bit of a crisis myself....one of my GT3 memory cards got totally erased by ME. I wasn't paying attention. That's what I get for bongin & drivin :( I had all the B & A Golds done, and was halfway thru the Amateur League. Right now I'm trying to get back where I was so GT2 challenges featuring Parnelli are on hold for a week or 2 :( :( :(
