Further explanation of the theme, provided by leeislee:

"It would have been easy to pick another theme like we're all used to but, for something a little bit different i thought i'd get your mental movies rolling with an interpretation theme.

The goal here is to read the short series of scenes from the story below and as the images fly around your mind i want you to create what you imagine.

You can choose any part of the story to create but your picture must fit in with the story. You can use any cars, any tracks but visually, it must work with the story. It's down to you...You're the director for this film.

One thing i will say, aim for a good cinematic shot. A shot that looks like a still from a movie. Here's some cinematic inspiration, Just don't copy these, use your imagination!
THIS - THIS - THIS
They're just 3 examples, there are many more here on GTplanet....Good Luck!"

SHORT STORY STARTS HERE!

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow
the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, send me a Private Message.
This Thread will answer many possible questions you may have.

  • It is recommended you host your image on ImageShack, Photobucket, or Flickr.
  • Not sure how to post a thumbnail or preview image? Read this sticky!
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it;
it makes poll creation much easier!

  • One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
  • Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
  • Absolutely no hybrid, hacked cars, or cars obtained through such means.
  • Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text. On H2H weeks, which side, as well.
  • You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and
either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
  • When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
  • Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
  • A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
  • Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
  • Winner gets to choose the following week's theme, as well as the Top 15. Every fourth
week, the poll will be H2H style: entries must choose a "team", leading to two 8-picture,
4-day polls. The winners from each faces off in a final 48 hour poll.
  • Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
  • The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so.
It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until week's ends.
Failure to follow these rules will result in ignored entries and/or disqualification!

What you may not do to a photo:
  • Alter the geometry of the car. No stickers, or body modifications not available in game.

  • Add lens flares or "artistic" filters to image.
  • Remove items from shot (scenery, other cars).
  • Use more than 1 image (HDR, photo-stitching, multi-exposure).
  • "Creative cropping". The main "image" must be four-sided, with 90-degree, upright corners.
  • Selective car colour changing: masking different parts to create racing stripes or similar.

What you may do to a photo:
  • Crop and/or resize an image.
  • Adjust the level or curve values.
  • Alter the colour tone of the image (gradient maps, photo filters, colour balance, etc).
  • Car body colour change (all stickers/design features must remain, see "Remove Items" rule).
  • Adjust brightness, contrast, exposure, shadow/highlights.
  • Enhance shadows or highlights (dodge and burn tools in Photoshop, for example).
  • Add noise and/or diffuse glow.
  • Add a post-game tilt-shift blur, or apply a motion blur to a stationary Photomode shot.
  • Make use of Layer Blend Modes.

CINEMATIC VISIONS

4:37am

The dark, tree lined road was a joy to drive. Winding on for mile after mile with nothing to see apart from the nearing glow in the distance. Looking back in his rear view mirror, the driver of the sleek super car could see faint, far away head lights shining through the trees. Backing off the power and dropping a gear the engine roared, spitting flames as the car slowed to take the turning for the city.

He sped into the orange glow of the metropolis, lights bounced of the body work, accentuating every hand crafted curve. Winding down the window to hear the engine roar amongst the empty city streets made his smile grow.

It was normal for this time of day to have powerful cars roaring around the streets, the police were too busy with the dark, seedy side of the city to care about cruisers, drifters and racers. After all, the business district and it’s towering glass and steel buildings were empty, only the wind and rain made a sound in the dead of night.

The road ahead was empty apart from a few distant brake lights. The lights he saw in his rear view mirror 15 minutes ago were still there, following his every move but now they seemed a little closer, then they split, two cars, three, four, spreading themselves across the road…gaining…fast.

Turning towards the tunnel the road dipped as the flickering lights seemed to add to the eerie calm of the normaly busy city. The curve of the tunnel meant he couldn’t see the cars behind him but he could see the head lights flickering off the tunnel walls.

As suddenly as he saw the lights he could hear them, the throaty rage of his car suddenly resonated with the sound of highly tuned engines. Looking back in his mirror he could see them, brightly coloured cars, low to the ground and gaining by the second.

He took the road at speed even as the bend tightened, his tyres gripped as hard as they could, the screeching seemed strangely loud and grew louder. He lifted off and the car instantly twitched as the tyres hugged the bend tighter, Suddenly the sound of rubber and revs filled his car as the Japanese car drifted past him. He couldn’t help but slow down as three more street cars drifted and raced ahead, their tyres smoke filling the tunnel and lit by licks of flames and tail lights.

When the bend straightened out he could see the cars speeding out of the tunnel and onto the straight motorway and off into the distance. His monstrous engine seemed to complain for miles, bored and annoyed at the slower pace, it wanted to go faster and the early glow of the morning behind the futuristic building on the horizon seemed to call the car ahead, the streetlights pointing the way. He changed up and pushed down on the accelerator, they went faster than he had ever taken it.

The car climbed and quickly reached the crest of the high section of express way and powered down the other side towards the docks, a knowing smile grew on his lips as the distant racers appeared far on the horizon.

The docks were busy loading the huge container ship, the giant cranes rising into the pink glow of the dawn. He blasted past the dockyard, his engine screaming, drowning out the noise of the heavy machinery and sped towards the light.

The steep banking of the motorway tested his nerves. The cars ahead leaving trails of smoke and tyre behind them as they drifted around the massive bend and onto the straight. They were overtaking each other, playing games and testing out the speed of their cars. The car at the back wasn’t aware of the expensive super car closing in, he only had eyes for the street cars he was racing.

It wasn’t until the rising sun bounced and danced in his rear view mirror that he looked back at something tailing him, dangerously close. He tried to pull away but he was out of luck, his car bounced off the limiter and had no more to give. The closeness of the car behind terrified him, he pulled to the left hoping it would pass, it didn’t, he moved across to the right and again the car stuck close, within a couple of feet of his rear bumper. This went on for what seemed like ages, the speed and danger was unbearable, He shouted at the car behind pleading for it to pass.

Finally the powerful super car pulled out and sped alongside the small Japanese car. As it drew level the driver looked across. They exchanged glances, the high pitched scream of the tuned engine was instantly drowned out by the bassy raw of the huge engine. The driver of the super car winked before roaring off ahead.

The three street racers almost lost control as the car powered past. They were shocked by the speed of it, the sound of it. It was pulling away at an incredible pace, the growing sunshine bouncing off the perfect paint work.

Looking in his rear view mirror he enjoyed the now familiar sight of the headlights in the distance. He pressed a button on his dash and the sound of hard rock music blasted out of his stereo. He put on his sunglasses as he raced past the gigantic radio telescopes of the astronomical observatory and headed towards the intersection, to the left the mountains, to the right the early morning city…whatever his choice, he hoped the cars behind would challenge him again on the tight, winding roads.

Wow, nice theme, the short story sounds like from Wangan Midnight world :D I'll have to drive my Wangan creation and take some shots.

Oh what a nice suprise, having two of my pics as examples for your great theme, Leeislee. Thank you very much.

This will be an epic comp! 👍

Great Idea Lee. It almost reads like it starts at Nurburgring, transitions into SSR5, Then SSR7, then Route X.

I got a killer idea for this, but I just gotta find a way to pull it off.

glad you all like the idea for this weeks competition...i can't wait to see your pictures!

Almost tempted to make this a collaborative photo shoot.. Anyone want to join forces to play this out?

I wanted to have a 5 way battle at SSR7 as a theme ... Devil Z, Blackbird, Legendary FC, Kuroki R33 GTR and Monster Machine Supra RZ, but it will almost impossible to organize online meet :(

You are on my friends list.. I will be available later tonight( about 7 hrs from this post)

I'll be asleep by then. The next I'll be available is in around 11 hours from now. It would be nice if we would be able to get a few more people in on it too, for the group of drift cars.

Argh.. That'd be 2am for me.. Well maybe tomorrow.. I will gladly be a drift car :).. I am going to try to get something going for this.. Only time will tell

That's great theme and I'd love to join in a shoot out. Any EU members free on Monday?

Just so you all know, you can post multiple cars pics, just one car or even no cars at all!
