I'm surprised I made it in the final poll. 0 votes 2 weeks in a row, but now that I look at both my entries I'm not happy with them at all.

Anyway, I had an incredibly hard time voting for SlipZ or 440. SlipZ style is just that style I adore so badly, but the amount of work Nic put in his entry cannot be overlooked. I ended up voting for Slipz because the BMW looked so tight in that shot, but I want to give a very big honorable mention to Nic! 👍

And as always, a big 👍 to everyone participating!

dam i didnt make it again :(
RedBullHangar-7_38gtp-1.jpg

why? what im i doing wrong people?

@ bmxmitch: I think your entry, should of made it into the poll. 👍

..BMX ,C.C ,Dice,Ben and Jamie Fantastic Entries Everyone By the way.

Agreed! But it's "Should have":)

....@ BMX, you should have made it dude! Yours was better than mine. 👍

And I'd like to make a suggestion, and maybe this needs to go into the general discussion thread, but I am tired of people using flickr for their pictures. I want a direct link to the image where the image is the only thing on the page and not the flickr screen. I then have to click three times to view all sizes, then right click the image to view the image. Like for bmxmitch, I'd much rather your image linked to here instead of here. Know what I mean?

It would've got my vote:)

hehe, thanks guys. Now I count.....uhhm....5 votes!?:P (nahh, not really, but at least some guys liking my Entry..)
I'm totally happy with that, haha:dopey:

@440 charger: I absolutely can underline your statement with the full views. flickr isn't the best for that, but its pretty easy if you know how. I only do it with my Entries (because I'm a lazy arse) but its always a bit annoying to add the link of the full size in that code.
In my first comps I never did that, because I simply didn't know how!
So, if anyone needs/wants to know how its done, let me know, I'll explain it then:sly:

edit: and to all who didn't made it, I don't think anyone did something wrong or bad. Its just the matter of taste the judge has. There are 15 places to give and how many Entries we had? 30? 50?
I Think he said it before that some guys will be really dissapointed. And I think if the judge could choose all Entries he likes, we would've had a poll of 30 Entries...or more! ;)

Yeah that's true, everyone has different tastes. Just that there were too many good ones to choose from:dunce:

I´m somewhere in between. I don´t link either of the ways you showed but the Flickr page, where you can see it in full size. I think that should be fine. It´s the way I always do.

I'll take the third option, damn everyone, and go cry in a corner. 👍

Brb, crying. :(

C Ya :dopey:

I like GTuned's entry, but shouldn't it be not allowed? The preview doesn't have the signature that the full size has. I thought the preview had to be exactly the same as full size?

That´s interesting. This actually falls under "preview has to show the same picture as linked full size version" rule. But I´d never think he did that by purpose...

It´s done within a few seconds if you know how to use browser tabs & copy´n´paste. It´s not really difficult :sly:

Exactly, you guys should stop complaining about it. Everyone here knows that you guys can do some outstanding work. Not making the poll doesn´t mean the world will stop turning. There will always be a "next week" :sly: Next week´s poll could be completely different. Just have fun and enjoy these comps, that´s what it should be about. Just look at me. In so many weeks i didn´t make it. Now second poll in a row but also second poll where I don´t get any votes. Believe me, it´s a bit frustrating but I keep moving on because I´m always looking forward to the next themes.

Thats exactly how I do it too. ;)
Open the full size pic, copy the code and replace the original part with it. But it takes 1 extra minute!!!!!:P

Would you be willing to sacrifice one extra minute for all of us? We would greatly appreciate it!

So, if you are willing, and if everyone else is willing, here is what you do:

1) You get your forum code from flickr, which is something like this [ URL= imageurlwithads ][ IMG ]previewimageurl[ /IMG ][ /URL ].

2) When you paste this code, this is the link it is linking to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmxmitch/5742093443/
This is the page where the image is not seen at it's full size and it has all of the adds and what not. (the irritating page)

3) Click the image from the above link, and it takes you to here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmxmitch/5742093443/lightbox/
This page still isn't the full size that I'd like to see. So...

4) Click the "View all sizes" link at the top right of the above page. It then takes you to here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmxmitch/5742093443/sizes/l/in/photostream/
This page is still not the page I want to see. So...

5) Make sure you are viewing the largest size possible. Then right click on the image and choose "View Image". That takes you to this link:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2703/5742093443_ed876d6365_b.jpg
That's what I want to see!!! A page that is just your picture with no adds or garbage surrounding it. So...

6) Go back to your forum code, which is [ URL= imageurlwithads ][ IMG ]previewimageurl [ /IMG ][ /URL ] and replace the "imageurlwithads" with "http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2703/5742093443_ed876d6365_b.jpg" and this is what you get:

Any questions? It's not that hard. A baby could do it!

And one other downfall of flickr is, the largest size you can get is 1024px. Perhaps there is a way to get it at the original size, but I have never seen anywhere where the size is larger than 1024px. Not that it's a big deal, but I'm just saying.

Have a nice day!

^ there is a quicker way :sly:... without having to view all sizes

from step 2 you only need to grab the the BB code for preview and just keep the second set of
tags and last url with the first url= *.
Then grab the html code for full size and insert into the
(deleting these tags[/COLOR])after the the first url= *.... all done from one page, Simples.

[B]Example[/B]

[url =h**p://farm3.static.flickr.com/2634/5809148971_a1a826d0f6_b.jpg][img]h**p://farm3.static.flickr.com/2634/5809148971_a1a826d0f6.jpg[/url]

Should end up looking like this. no space after url. ** = tt

I think you can have them in their original size if you use Flickr "Pro", I think Dolp has that.

Yep, thats exactly what I do everytime! lol:lol:

But I only do it for my Competition Entries. In my gallery, pretty much every picture is linked to the flickr side.

Sorry to let you write all this down. I was working and not really willing to post all this at the moment.
But great explained 440 Charger:)👍

I think you can have them in their original size if you use Flickr "Pro", I think Dolp has that.

I confirm: non Pro Flickr accounts are limited to 1024, Pro accounts have no limits.

My contribution, for instance, can be viewed in 1620. But in **farm**.static** Flickr's links, the pic is automatically resized to match with the user's screen. You can only see the original size either in the multiple size page on Flickr (with some Flickr stuff) or clicking/zooming on the farm.static page.

I believe most viewers could be satisfied with the lightbox page (was done for that by Flickr regarding multiples "on black" sites which offer same option). And, in my case, I'm much more annoyed by farm.static page adresses which don't allow me to find the user account (I can't fav some pics on Flickr to find them fast on demand, ask for contact, or check updates).

Anyway, the quickest way to get a link with original size is to add "/sizes/o" at the end of the link you get with the BBCode setup with 500.

For my pic: you get http://www.flickr.com/photos/yacknonchalant/5420656401/sizes/o instead of this http://www.flickr.com/photos/yacknonchalant/5420656401

In addition to what 440's saying (it personally isn't a huge issue for me, but it is annoying, and as shown, can be easily remedied), I do ask that people follow the rule about making their preview clickable to the full-size. I've mentioned this before and a few people still don't listen - the reason I ask is that it makes collating the polls far, far easier, because if you have already ensured that the preview clicks to full-size, then I can just pop into your post, copy the code, and move to the next image.

When members use a separate, text-only link to the full-size, and have the preview unclickable, I have to fix that, and not only does that take more time, but when I'm grabbing 50 (now 40) entries from the threads, I can sometimes make a mistake and copy/paste in the wrong places. This would solve that :)

95% of members already do it perfectly (some even keep their center tags on a separate line from their image code, which makes copy/pasting even faster :P), but I figure it needs to be said :)

Thank you very much for the votes so far, those that have, and thank you Bram for the explanation: it's funny, because I gave my vote to 440 for the sheer amount of work - something most people probably won't realize if they don't open it in full-size, because it is a relatively simple shot, which is too bad for those people!

I did not know this! I'm not sure if I do this, but I will-do from now on. And thanks for the vote! :)

One more trick to flickr. I grab the bb code, paste in my post. Copy the farm url and paste it in the place of the other url and then add a _b before the .jpg

Before:
{url=h**p://www.flickr.com/photos/monkeymenno/5783487483/]
5783487483_d50a7ceb38.jpg
[/url]

After:
{url=h**p://farm4.static.flickr.com/3189/5783487483_d50a7ceb38_b.jpg]
5783487483_d50a7ceb38.jpg
[/url]

** = tt
{ = [

In other words the full sized image has the same url as the preview but with a _b in it. It's about as fast as fast can be.

Never did that!:ill: But just because I didn't know it better. From now on, I will keep it as easy as it gets for you. ;)

And again, thanks alot for all the great work Slipz. I never would be able to manage all that. 👍

Well the shots for the poll are fantastic and to be honest it must have been hard to pick them. I gather my entry must have been over edited, but thats why we have the theme chooser to pick the poll it's what they are looking for, its not that any of the shots are bad it's that it's personal pref from the poll picker.

If it was me I would be looking at full size images and looking for JPEG compression marks, soft edges, pixelization & composition. Depending on the theme I would look for realism in the composition but some themes require a more extreme angle. Guys don't be disheartened the shots were good just not the poll pickers choice.

As for the Flickr full size link, sorry slips. I used to use a direct link but have got into a bad habit by doing the cop out in my gallery. I will be more careful next time. :D

From a competition hosting perspective I'll back up everything slip is saying - the most annoying is the text link to full size, because often it's as simple as cutting the IMG coding for the preview image and pasting it in place of the text that is being hotlinked to the full size. It doesn't take a long time to do, but it mucks up my workflow and makes things more complicated than they need to be!

The Flickr thing I'm generally not fussed about... the way I see it, is that if users viewing the full size are put off by the Flickr intermediary pages, then that is only going to be to the detriment of that entry.

Excellent point, Rev, and Sprite, no worries - it's a preference, but by no means an out-and-out rule :)

To tie in more to the topic - I have the advantage of being a Mod, meaning I can get the poll info simply by hopping into a post (the other hosts have to either quote it, or do some right clicking). One thing that also makes poll collating a lot faster is the form of the PM I receive: A list of post numbers (the ones in the top right corners of each post) is all that's needed :). Anything else requires more work on my part - this way, I just go comb through the thread, 90% of the time in chronological order, and grab what I need to.

My method for polls each week is to copy the entry content to a TXT file, with the poster's name associated with it, like this:

(Image Code)
(User Name)

...times 25/15. When I post the thread, it's just a matter of some quick Ctrl+C/V and Alt+Tab'ing to fill in the poll within about a minute, keeping the wait to a minimum between the thread being created, and the poll added. Plus, keeping the TXT file lets me check off who's voted, and if anybody has broken the rule about self-votes.

Hope that explains a bit of the behind the scenes stuff :)

I am much clearer now on how you require a poll compiled in a PM.

Having judged a couple of comps previously the subsequent polls were relatively lower (ie: top 12 max) and ironically I spent quite a while collating the links for the current PMC poll (top 25) so its a great relief to see there is a much simpler way 👍.

I do very much the same thing myself Slip, minus the editing-in-place advantages of a mod, I tend to go through the thread command-clicking the quote buttons, giving me access to the BBCode in a bunch of fresh tabs. Copying stuff to an intermediary text file seems to be the way to go though! :P

As hosts, to create the poll we have to go through the thread and collate all the previews and full size hotlinks, post numbers are an easy way to identify the top choices and for us to grab the poll entries quickly. Sending the links to the full size images to the comp host is kind of annoying as we have to go back to the thread and find each one of those and grab the Preview image code as well, then make sure all the links work.

The ideal situation is for the judge to send us the finished and ready preview+fullsize BBCode in a PM, ready to be straight copied*into the poll. It doesn't happen often though, and isn't an expected thing, as it does require a bit more time on the part of the Judge.

Heh, no problem sir - I hadn't specifically mentioned it to you, though now you know this week ;).

Rev - indeed, and I don't expect that of the Judges (though I have had a handful of weeks where people have sent me everything as needed for the poll, which was a welcome surprise).

The text files have been a huge benefit for me - I remember the frothing-mouth posts from years back just waiting for Brock to get the polls up once the threads were active, so I vowed never to have more than a minute or two between them

You are a better person. 👍 I added a rule to CCCL several weeks ago telling that if the preview is not clickable it's not going to be clickable in the poll either. So far this has resulted in no problems. Not sure if anyone has even noticed this though.

95% of members already do it perfectly (some even keep their center tags on a separate line from their image code, which makes copy/pasting even faster :P), but I figure it needs to be said :)

Yes almost everyone has their previews in top order. 👍 Also I should say here that not once have I needed to delay a week because to slow response to theme request etc. Big thanks to everyone for making these comps run smoothly! :)

Well, I've always shown in the PM, how I did want for judges to sent me their top choices (post number plus entrant name, because sometimes the post numbers were wrong) and gave to the judge a list of entrants that should be ignored as they were either against the rules, against the theme or there was a new entrant from that user in another post. I have to say, this resulted in a big list back in the first phew week, but started to shorten up as people started to read and understand the rules.
About the preview linked for the full size yes, it makes our lives easier and yes, it would be great if everyone did it (as well as spacing all the code from the center tags), but personally, don't think it should be a necessity. It's not that difficult to put them up. ;)

Oh and a tie break is in order. :P

Ah, 0 vote...again. :ill:
Oh well, others entry are far to greater than mine. I should be happy to be in the poll with them. :)
