Ok ive been racing in bumper cam view but when I switched to cockpit view the screen got noticeably darker and some what pasty I also noticed quite a bad frame rate drop it made racing in this mode really un enjoyable which is a real shame, has anyone else noticed this ? Its only in cockpit mode all other views are crisp and clear.

Yeah, lot of people noticed it. This is just what GT6 1.01 really is. I hope for a patch improving situation ASAP or many people like you will be left in the dark.

"Darker" is a result of the window tint modelling. Sounds crazy but it's true. It seems the Hondas I've tried are the worst for this (Fit, S2000 being examples).

The frame rate is sometimes a bit worse. On some tracks it is completely fine, I found.

I experienced framerate drops in the demo when using cockpit view but not in the full game so far. I do see some occasional screen tearing though. Replays do have a few drops though.

Dear GTP mods that will come to lock this: would please attach this thread to some other open framerate thread, rather than closing everything saying "there's alread a framerate thread". Would make it much simpler to track the framerate complaints, those are the key for me on deciding whether to get the game or not.
Thanks.

But the whole dash goes dark and somewhat blurred as well so can't be down to a tinted screen

Hard to judge as the dashboards are mostly black.

Some cars don't suffer this as much, so I can only put it down to the tints...

Ive just switched from anti flicker to normal and that seems to have improved both the darken blur and frame drop not sure how setting it to normal would achieve this though but it certainly has made things better.

Maybe GT7 will be better ... I wouldn't count on it.

Digital Foundry did a graphics analysis of the demo quite a while back and I think they recommended running in 720p if your going to use cockpit view. You can change from 1080p to 720p in the playstation XMB menu. I prefer cockpit view as well finding it much more immersive than bumper or other views.

Oh dont get me wrong Im really enjoying the game its the best GT to date imho im just hoping this issue gets a patch and maybe the AI gets a boost :-)

How does the depth of the career mode compare to GT5 and GT4? I thought GT4 was a really deep game with tons of events, missions, etc. Whereas GT5 was quite shallow in comparison.

XMB menu ? Could you explain to me how to do this please.

"The closest thing we have to a cure-all for these issues is to disengage 1080p resolution on the PlayStation 3 XMB and downgrade to the 720p display mode. Outside of a few dips in frame-rate caused by the appearance of alpha-based effects, GT6 manages to deliver a very solid experience in 720p, minus some occasional judder when the engine is being put under load. The use of different viewpoints has little impact on smoothness and for the most part we are looking at a mostly locked 60FPS update – cockpit view still has a hit on frame-rate, but it’s nowhere near as pronounced as it is in the 1080p mode."

Why did they do this ? :(
I don't care for a new light engine if I can't play in cockpit view...

Exactly, this is racing game: a consistent and reasonably high frame rate is key. Everything else is secondary.

I know what 60 FPS looks like and this game is nowhere near that. The Digital-Foundry measurements aren't relevant: they were clearly made on a different build of the game to what we're using right now. We're not seeing those speeds here.

Also, just to be clear because I've seen this on another thread: the human eye is quite capable of noticing the improvement up to about 60 FPS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flicker_fusion_threshold). Movies are shot at 24 FPS because it's near the minimum standard, not because higher FPS isn't smoother. That, indeed, is why The Hobbit was shot at 48 FPS (and looked really quite odd for it).

Switching to 720 or using a different view are pretty sub-optimal solutions for this. Frame rate is pretty critical to a racing game and I shouldn't really have to downgrade to a lower res just to use my preferred view in the game. I'd gladly do without some of the fancy lighting and environmental effects in favor of better performance...

Perhaps I am very lucky with my PS3 or something, as I seem to have no frame-rate drops whatsoever and I drive exclusively from the driver's view.

You get whiteout when driving into low sunlight angles in real life too - the photoreactive winshscreen helps counter that. I'm sure it's just PD's way of making it more immersive.

Yes, they're rubbish solutions. But that's what happens when you ask too much of the hardware, which is what PD have done with GT6. I never really believed the hype about "next gen graphics on PS3." It always sounded suspect.

I think we need the option to switch off stuff that sucks up resources such as AA, spectators, or reflections. I don't know what the main culprits are, but the developers must know and they should give us the option to sacrifice bells and whistles if we want to up the FPS. Normally in console games this isn't necessary, because the developer makes sane choices. In this case, however, we need it.

Lots of people say they don't have any frame rate problems in GT6. Believe me, when Digital Foundry does their analysis of GT6, they will discover frame rate problems...

Your PS3 is the same as everyone else's. Probably you just notice the frame rate drops to a lesser degree. Some people do.

I found that disabling HDMI deep colour in the Playstation display settings seems to have reduced the strange colour effects. Probably my TV being strange. But maybe others are having the same problem?

I actually got a new prescription for my glasses on Thursday - this is the best my eyesight has been in quite some time. I did notice it a bit during the GT Academy, but not with GT6.

I've not really noticed the frame rate drops in cockpit view some are talking about. I saw it quite extensively in the GT Academy demo. So looks like they improved it from there to me. It could be track dependent as I haven't tried too many tracks yet.
