I was thinking about getting a real cockpit this christmas to replace my home made one made from wood. The playseat's one looks real nice but is there something else like it ?
It's just something that I'd like to know before maybe spending that much money I'd like to see the alternatives if there are any.

Thank you.:)

I went with the Obutto because it looks nicer than the Playseat and has all the features included without having to buy separately like a gear shifter holder, seat slider etc

Kaching, seeing as you're from this side of the pond too, I'd go for the Obutto (matter of preference) since it's sold in the US, considering the shipping costs from Europe would be prohibitive.

The Playseat is shipped from the US too, but again, it's a matter of preference. :)

Either way, the link I provided has a directory of mostly all the commercially available cockpits worldwide, but most of them come from Europe and are way more advanced and feature-rich than both the Obutto and Playseat. And more pricey.

I've narrowed it down to two:

Playseat alcantara black with additional shifter mount for 400 $ CAD plus 40 $ for shipping.
and
Obutto, without the 3-screen mount and the desk for 359 $ plus 99 $ of shipping.

I must say that I prefer the Playseat for the moment but I still have lots of time to make my mind before christmas. :D

The look of the Playseat looks better but the Obutto is more value for money. Go with the Obutto (unless you need compactness)

Sorry to bump the thread.

I will be ready for GT5, I just ordered a Black Playseat Alcantara with a black shifter mount. It will ship as soon as it is in stock. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play with it until christmas but I can't wait to assemble it. :D

I was gonna say I'd recommend the Obutto over the Playseat Evo mainly for the fact the vertical wheel mount in between the legs kinda bothers me. That's why I sold it but to each their own. Still a good setup nonetheless.

Looks like the Obutto is the cockpit to get. (At least after doing a couple searches and looking around the net and this forum for 30 minutes...)

The playseat, with the bar between the legs looks like it would be uncomfortable to me.

I'm going to buy the Obutto in a couple days unless somebody from GTPlanet has got something to say about it. I'm 6 feet and 2 inches tall. I have Logitech's G25 wheel. Pre-ordered GT5 from amazon.com. Going to put these in my living room equipped with surround sound and a 42-inch 1080p tv to which my PS3 is always connected. The Obutto site tells me the monitor mounts are removeable, so I'll remove them. I also plan to get the table accessory. So please, people out there with these or other cockpits, or anything to say about my decision please post something in this thread. I know every Gran Turismo fan with an extra few hundred bucks would like to be sure they get a decent cockpit.

Years ago, in GT4, I got 100% (well, some glitch 98-or-something percent and whatever I was missing was impossible to find) and think I'm pretty good at it. I remember this board actually had really educational discussion way back, perhaps before GT4 came out... not sure when exactly... but learned to drive pretty darn well not only in Gran Turismo but in the real world. (I graduated high school in 2003). I enjoyed racing friends in GT4 by doing things like setting up full-spec (fastest time) versions of 'affordable' sporty road cars (mostly mimicing Initial D type matchups) tuned and raced for N3 tires. Such races were ended and disqualified for any non-deliberate collision. Best lap times during the setup of competing cars would be matched by downgrading parts of the faster car, if desired. N3 tires, providing grip one could actually buy in the real world, offered a unique experience. Requiring long stretches of braking, precision tail braking, accurate throttle positions hit instantly (if you've got a an engine that puts out steady torque), and often quite a bit of drifting simply because its the easier way to drive until you decide on some sort of strategic (or just-for-fun or mindgaming) move. So, anybody who might understand this kind of mentality knows I try to be a perfectionist driver. So... GTPlaneters... make sure I end up with the right hardware. :)

With the Playseat Evo vertical bar in between the legs, (for me) it's not the fact it's uncomfortable. It's more like it's annoying, LOL! As in, it kinda gets in the way sometimes. It's still a great option if you don't mind that issue. I thought about a Rinoseat GTR however, there's not that many options to choose from (that I remember).

I only have about 2 hrs experience with my Obutto, but I would highly recommend it. It is very comfortable, and has many adjustments to get the perfect driving position. I also like that I can mount the shifter on either side, so that in GT5, I can drive LHD and RHD cars appropriately. Mine came with the keyboard tray, but I did not install it. There is also no need to remove the monitor stand, just don't install it when you put it together. The only thing that I will change, is, I will reverse mount my G25 pedals.

I would suggest putting the KB tray on so you can put your controller/games on there.

Lateral stability?:odd: Perhaps in the event of an earthquake, you can finish the race as your cockpit gets thrown around the room?

That looks alright, but I'm still sold on the Obutto. The Rinoseat website doesn't state a price, and half of it isn't in english.

From what I remember last week, by the time I priced it out & converted currencies, it's around ~$450 USD shipped so essentially around same price as an Obutto ($425 USD).

I live in California, U.S.A. How many US$ does he want for it?

I still think the Obutto looks more comfortable. Timppaq's cockpit has the user suspended off the floor, and the structure of it will prohibit me from moving my legs around left and right when I'm not racing. (tuning, ect)

One more day until I buy the Obutto. Please tell me about anything you think I should consider before I do, GTPlaneters!

Right, need abit of help. Been browsing about on the internet for a brand new Playseat Alcantara, cheapest I've found is on Playseat's main website. Surely there's one out there under £300 brand new. Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Been waiting for a year for prices to come down on Playseats.

How much was Amazon selling it for before they sold out?

I can't afford to buy both PWTS (w/CSP) & Obutto now (damn anniversary recently & X-mas coming up, LOL) so I'm debating on which one I wanna get 1st b/c I know both items sells out quickly. At this point, I'm leaning towards the PWTS b/c there's not that many left.

I checked that other day, out of stock. Looks like I might have to order on Playseat's main website.
