Grid's graphics were win.
Grid's damage was win.

Grid's handling model was easily the worst I have ever, EVER experienced. And that's saying something when I compare it with other games best left to the scrapheap, like Formula One 98.

If they can fix that, I would be interested in Grid 2.

I'd like a more interesting car selection... The one in GRID felt a bit... used before, I suppose. An option to purchase a car in stock form, and build it up to be a track car would be a better system. Also, they need to add one of the most underrated car makes in the world, and my personal favourite.

If they really are making Grid 2, then that is good news. 👍 It would be nice if Codies could get the BTCC license for Grid 2 and implement more touring cars, I was dissapointed with the lack of touring cars in Grid 1.

Excited for GRID 2, but i hope they dont get any licenses. Really hopping for SMS to get some FIA , Touring Car, ect ect licenses so we can see them in project C.A.R.S.

They may have altered their F1 licence to get that in the game.

GTR3 already have licenses to GT series, SMS and Codemasters can also have them... they dont have to be exclusive like F1.

I hate exclusive licensing agreements.

You must not have played Shift 2 yet.

i'm hoping that codemasters wont get some sort of special deal on other series as well, but your probaby right GT Licenses are probably fine. I really wish the F1 license wasnt exclusive but i guess its just a dream now:(

It sounded like Grid 2 might make an E3 appearance. Instead of announcing a new Dirt game, Grid will finally take the stage again.

The orginal Grid had a release date of 6/13/2008 if the new one releases next year in the summer it wont be 6 years but it will be 5... not that much of a diference.

Doesn't CM work on a host of games and not just Grid?

They do, and they do have a racing game team that's been busy with the Dirt franchise for a while. And while they ARE working on Dirt 4, It sounds like Gird 2 will be the racing team's next big announcement and will probably be mentioned at E3. Remember that Grid 2 was mentioned around the same time Dirt 2 was, and Dirt and Grid were supposed to be like sister games with one focusing on rally and the other on the racing aspect, bringing the old Colin McRae and Pro Race Driver series more into one little group. The benefit of this, is the games would gain the knowledge and technology used for making the other game. Like I believe Grid used the same engine as Dirt, but with an improved damage engine. And, in turn, some of the things in Grid made their way into Dirt 2. Grid 2 should've been released after Dirt 2, but....Codemasters is from England and the team building the games originally worked on the Colin McRae Rally games...so...rally comes first. But...It's good to hear Grid 2 is actually going to see the light of day. And maybe that "user designed track" that they held a huge contest for will finally appear.

Yes but they probably have 5 times the studios and 10 times the man power... And probably only started working on Grid 2 the past year since its going to use the EGO 2.0.

But I though someone was trying to imply that it will take much less time to release the next Race driver game than what it did to release GT5, didnt know that they were talking about other games in between.

In that case you have to see it on the publisher side of things instead (Sony vs Codemasters) wich is a bit more of a fair comparison (number of studios and man power) I think they are more or less the same.

The thing is that Codemasters said that they would release a F1 game per year (back in 2009) and a Dirt game and a Grid game from 2 to 2 years in diferente years - first Dirt then Grid then Dirt and so on... but that didnt happen.

Which they have kept their promise on that, and I'm glad they do a good job because if it was like EA with their yearly games, I wouldn't buy a CM f1 game ever. I didn't know about the Dirt/Grid promise, that's too bad they couldn't keep the promise maybe something came up.

Either way I got the joke since PD said they started work on the game back in end of 04 start of 05. If the 2.0 system is being used like you said then they've only been working on it for a year to year and a half.

Well all I can say from this delay, is this better be one hell of a game because I've been waiting ever since I got GRiD.

I think maybe the DiRT series was more popular and they decided to move on with that instead.

I am hoping you can tune cars this time not just buy a race car and thats it, you should be able to do R&D.

This. The handling of the cars wasn't great. To easy to slide around and unrealistic.

It wasn't supposed to be realistic... It's an arcade game.
Arcade game doesn't necessarily mean crap physics, I remember some with a decent one. And nowdays with a good amount of steering wheels sold you at least expect the FFB to be smooth and playable even if the physics is meant to be arcade.

And what exactly was bad about it?

Sure it wasn't realistic, but it was never meant to be. Its clear you wont be interested in Grid 2 because its not going to be a sim.

The thing to fear, IMO, is that they will make it too much like Dirt... and that it will get too much useless DLC. I remember Grid got DLC very late in its life span and worst of all, it couldn't be used in the career mode...

A longer career mode, more cars and more tracks is all i wish for. Finally, physics could be improved a ton, but it wasn't too bad in Grid, even though controller-users had an advantage...

I hope they use a new engine. The old one sued in DIRT and GRID whilst fun, was a little unrealistic. But if they keep the crazy damage system, that'll be good.

Agreed. Grid had terrible physics. I wish they just would drop Grid, and go back to TOCA. Sure, Grid sounds better but Grid doesn't have rally. I find it stupid that I have to buy dirt and grid from codies to get what is essentially TOCA 4 for the PS3.

The professional physics in TOCA 2/3 were MUCH better than the physics in dirt or Grid, BUT still not that great. Other than F1, codemasters games have very unrealistic physics. The way the cars slide is actually somewhat realistic, but its like the whole game is in FAST FORWARD. The cars go WAY faster than they should, and take corners way too quickly and that goes EVEN for the Professional physics model in TOCA 3.

I think they should use the physics in F1 2011 for Grid 2, or any realistic physics, on par with GT5 (or at least close to it). F1 2010/11 proves that they can out do realistic physics, so I really hope they keep going with their new found realistic physics, because I think f1 is the only codemasters games worth playing.

They're great at presentation, now all they need to do is go with semi-real physics, instead of the half way to burnout physics found in Grid 1. If they use the F1 2011 physics for Grid 2, and not some dumbed down crap like Grid 1, I'd buy Grid 2 LONG before I'd even play forza 4 at a friends house. F1 2011 blows away forza, now all codies needs to do is add more cars to go with those good physics

They do it for a reason. It's called money.
