I agree with people who say there is a lack of content, particularly tracks, in my opinion. The number of vehicles is fine, but the tracks can get a little dull sometimes because they are constantly used over and over again, only with a change of layout, so the scenery generally looks the same. I personally would have liked to see more real world tracks too, as they are a little lacking.

Has anyone else heard the duff engine noises since the update? Whenever I pass by something like a microphone, flags or trees it plays some random engine noises rather than the air "whoosh" that CM love so much. First I thought it was other cars, but I had a huge gap back and the track didn't loop at that point. Then I noticed in a vehicle challenge, and it was at random points as well so not just reverberations from my own car. Noise didn't change at all for the tunnel.

On top of this the engine will do some strange blips, gear changes and rev ranges occasionally (normally mid-corner). It's kind of ruining it for me at the moment in what would otherwise be a very good arcade racer.

I noticed this aswell.

traded mine in today for a pre order on Last of Us couldn't even sell it. I'm wiping my hands clean of this game. I tried to like it for a week but its just not good. Shouldn't have bought it in the first place

It surely isn't bad per se but it doesn't live up to a sequel's standard. They totally Juiced 2 this game. What I wanted was the 1st GRiD but with more content. More cars, tracks, disciplines, bigger team management, better car customization, etc. What we got is less tracks than the 1st with just a bit more cars, normal cars, & a more extreme (less realistic) handling physics.

Wrote a little blog piece on GRID2. Just thought it would be worth sharing.

GRID2: The Race That Hasn't Really Returned
GRID1 was an amazing beast. I remember first playing it in 2008 and being disgusted by how it handled, I had dipped my hand into GT5:Prologue(anxiously awaiting the full game) and the change was one I refused to accept. Not because I don’t like Arcade racers, I love arcade racers, but because it was so modestly set between simulation and arcade in the way the game was played I passed it off as a failed attempt and never looked at it for months.

Just as equally, I remember taking it out, having a game hiatus half-way through my PS3 ‘career’ and decided to play again. It was then, I fell in love with GRID. The handling…made sense eventually, the online community drew me in, dreams and memories of TOCA flooded back as I swept a Chevy Lacetti through the turns of Istanbul. It clicked.

Now, fast foward to May 31st 2013. A date I have been eagerly awaiting since the sequel to one of my fondest games was announced in the first place. GRID2 arrived on my door-step. I was ready to get lost in the world of GRID again. The Race had returned.

But it didn’t really.

I turned on GRID2 and was met with something completely different. The one intrinsic confusingly unique handling that made the cars so flamboyant and floaty in GRID1 had been replaced and changed with a more dynamic drift-centric motif, that wanted me to take corners faster than I should, and create more smoke than I should. The game wanted me to dwell into a world of ‘extreme’ motor-racing and leave behind McKane and Ravenwest and it’s racing of old, for the sports-center generation of today. Where at a click of the mouse, Fans from all around the world would watch my clips on Youtube…not tune in to watch me race on sundays. I was distraught, it seemed like GRID…was gone. There was no ‘Race’…just a imitation of the Dirt series that so harshly left Colin McCrae behind. I nearly gave up and simply left it behind. I couldn’t do it though, if not for the fact I had spent £38, but also that I had been waiting so long for the title. Surely there was a game worth playing in there?

In my opinion. I’m correct. GRID2 is a fantastic arcade racer that is exhilarating, yet underwhelming. As I speed through Paris, overtaking my competitors…just seconds later I am bumper first into a wall because I merely touched a piece of traffic on the road. As I admire the scenes of Tokyo at night, I also bemoan the horrible glare of the Dubai sun on the un-aliased buildings that pierce the sky(PS3 version, I understand the PC game is much better looking). Oddly enough, I’m not deterred from GRID2. I’m playing the hell out of it, for every bad thing, I can find 2 positives, and because there are a lot of negatives, there’s also a lot of positives. The soundtrack is as OTT as ever and the car selection is pretty damn good and well balanced. As is the track selection for the most part, albeit pretty random, the tracks here are great fun to race on and provide nailbiting situations in the Tier 4 beasts or accuracy battles in the Tier 1 hatches. I find myself constantly going back to GRID2, to learn the new handling, to hit that corner perfect, to earn more fans…to leave behind Ravenwest and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

There’s not much in common between GRID1 and GRID2 and it’s not something you gradually notice. It’s something you see from the title screen at very beginning, when you are greeted by: #grid2

GRID2 is a bewildering beast. It’s one which will immediately disgust and put off a lot of people, purely because of it’s radical change in direction but if you stick it out and leave behind the GRID of old, there is a great racer hidden underneath, one that will twist and pull at your opinions to judge it. I couldn’t review GRID2 because - because it’s easily the most subjective title I’ve had the pleasure of playing.

Now, time to earn some more fans and get crashed out at every bloody corner.

Tried the game recently, was impressed initially with the visuals and layout of the game but after 1 day i'm over it. Physics are ok, although i'm not keen on the drift-to-win style of the street races where drifting gives you an insane amount of grip around corners. I tried the racing cars and they seem better with a grip style of physics.

I think i'm just too old for this kind of game now, and also after using iRacing these types of racing games just seem boring. The AI is completely inconsistent, they speed up at the start and slow down at the end to let you win, things like that are just ridiculous to me. Also the lack of tracks is pretty lame, nice selection of cars however.

And yea career mode gets very repetitive and online racing is out of the question for me as racing games seem like a joke to play online after using iRacing (only iRacers will understand) with the lag. Compared to the original Grid it's still a worthy successor and younger players should enjoy it but for me it's just a waste of time when I could be doing real racing on iRacing.

In GRiD 2 if the player is lagging bad they become intangible. I assume that because when I saw a jittery player their car went transparent which usually means you can't touch them.

could someone compile a list of complaints I am trying to understand there point of veiw now I have only played it for maybe 2 hours so maybe I havent hit that wall yet just trying to understand

I think, my opinion, everyone dislikes that they changed the game so much. If you ever played the amazing Juiced game back on PS2/Xbox then played the sequel Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights you'll see what they are getting at but at an extreme. Juiced 2 completely & utterly killed the series because they went from a loose sim game to a 100% hardcore arcade game.

If they didn't complain that it changed too much they'd complain it didn't change enough. You can never win.

Look at it like this. Changing your style (clothes & hair) is enough of a change but changing your sex is a bit too much. I say that's the best balance game devs should abide by IMO.

This is why they never release demos which forces me to try b4 I buy. I buy every game I love but from being burned in the past I download every code masters game and try it 1st. I played Grid 2 with my Fanatec for a couple of days and hated it. After reading about the online in the CM forums I am so glad I did not waste my money. I saved myself cash and it is already uninstalled and the iso deleted to reclaim precious SSD space. What a total disappointment after such a long wait from Grid 1. Drifters should love it though. If only they would release demo's but then again they know it could hurt sales. Codemasters are on a downward slide IMO.

Good devs with good track records are more likely to release demos I have noticed. I DO NOT support piracy but I am NOT going to let a dev suck money out of my pocket for a bad or broken game. Anyone remember the issues with Dirt 2 crashing to desktop for some and they never really fixed it ? I had to mess with a bunch of XML files to get it to stop and that is when I decided that if they dont release a demo I will demo it myself. Besides, if you dont buy you can not play online so there is incentive. Grid 2 is just plain boring after a bit. Too little in the track department and I could not stand the control. Way too much drifting and I cant stand drifting.

The track issue does bug me, this game would be so much more to me if there were more circuits as opposed to reusing different layouts around city areas. Liveroutes is good as it keeps you on your toes, but I can't learn the city "tracks" by the name presented at the start. what that means is that until I have done a lap, I'm driving it like the Liveroute events. By the last lap of the race I have learnt that particular track and it is over, onto the next event.

I didn't know the Algarve circuit, but was really glad to finally see it after driving the city circuits for the first hour or so. Still yet to see it, Indianapolis or Brands Hatch again after the first events of each though... Abu Dhabi is the only track given a half decent amount of event time.

@ Canadians thinking about getting the game.

EBGames release (off the shelf) contains all 4 current DLC packs along with the VIP.
Not sure what is included from other retailers.

I am actually enjoying myself it is different from the first Grid game but so what I doubt no matter what they did not all of us would be satisfied. Is the game perfect no not by a long shot i guess for me im having fun. I guess I just don't take gaming seriously anymore.

I'm enjoying myself too, no matter how much certain sectors of the Internet are convinced this is the devil's spawn.

When it comes down to it, it doesn't have to be perfect, just fun. That's the while point of games.

GRID 2 looks like a good game... I'll probably buy it soon.

- Just one question; Have they fixed the steering ?

Just started playing. It says I need another 3500 fans to open up racing league,i have done the 1st two races and promotional events, stupid question but how do I get to the league events?

Finish every race and every promotional event. Don't have to but you get maximum fans from it.

In Seasons 1, 2, and 3, it's all about winning over the select continent's racing clubs. Get all of them on board and you can begin the World Series Racing leagues.

Just keep racing.

I've had my first crash worthy of Youtubing, you need to be careful taking too many liberties with those apexes.

Yesterday I didn't really like the game, I felt that they had dumbed down the handling a bit too much since the first game which was meaning everybody online was pretty much the same speed which caused every overtake to be a bump and run, it must've been a bad room though because I've played again today and it feels a lot cleaner and more fun.

Out of curiosity, how many seconds of footage can you record? Is it still the usual 30 second limit?

So a guy was bragging that if no one else has a GT-R that he was going to win this TA well I beaten his GT-R with a Challenger by 2 seconds. :sly:

Nearly done Season 3...what can I expect from the last 2 seasons?

and I'm pretty sure that's true RACECAR.

I just love when someone comes and brags about their car being the best, only to get beaten immediately. Afterwards, they say nothing else
