Colin McRae Tribute Event

After realising it's been just over a year now since Colins tragic death, I thought us here at GTP could do our own tribute. Sure it's not the greatest tribute ever, not the largest, not the most expensive, but I believe we all owe something to the scottish legend. Without him motorsport may not be what it is, particularly in the rally world, he took an attitude which I believe epitomises all forms of racing. One that meant you would either have it all or nothing, the line between winning and crashing so thin, the will to never give up, to always go on.

For these reasons I believe we should all make our own unique tribute to him this weekend racing on the :00 :15 :30: :45 schedule for Suzuka Expert 750PP from 7PM GMT+1 (thats GMT+0 , UK daylight saving) (chosen as it's an international event, and remember to let anyone who's racing get by at the start) and as you'd guess, Impreza's are the car to drive, any set up. This isn't about the race, this is about making our tribute to the great man who inspired so many. You may race if you wish, but I for one will keep the pace down should a big group be present.

It would be fantastic if someone could also put a video together of the event.

If in doubt, flat out - Colin McRae

Brilliant idea man, I'd love to join :) I was very sad when i heard of his passing in that accident :( A true legend and my favorite rally driver of all time, If it's the Time for Australia Cairns, What time will the event be for me?

Ironically reading this post i was playing the orginal Colin Mcrae game on the PS1 lol

I don't know, not sure what timezone you're in. But it's an on going event after the original start, so should be plenty of time for you to join in.

That looks a lot like my company car from 1995/96... my Series McRae Impreza. Mica Blue with gold forest speedlines... the best car I ever had. Only 208bhp, but it had the most sublime handling... went something like this - brake... turn-in... feel the back come round... apply fulll throttle + straighten steering... 4 wheel drift through to exit... repeat! Unfortunately that car got me 15 points on my license in 2 years.

Maybe running on N1's would allow for some Colin style sideways fun?

I might do so myself, but I don't believe enforcing regulations is the way for this event. Feel free to join me in the sliding action :)

Still miss this guy and his appeal :( R.I.P the greatest Rallier ever imo ;)

A little reminder of his brilliance and great character in this clip from the xgames .. love this footage and the ending is a classic .. Enjoy!

Great idea btw Dragonistic, will try to catch a few of the events 👍

There's also a thread in the WRC section with tributes and many McRae videos and pictures including this absolute gem.

Thanks for the support, don't forget to spread the word :)

I think i'll be running on S2s for it, its a good mix of speed and slide, the Ns feel to slippy i think.

My abiding memory of Colin was from his early days... in his first 1000 lakes, he rolled his Subaru Legacy 5 times in the course of the rally and still came 3rd... honestly, it looked like it had been in a crusher.

Definitely the most entertaining non-Scndanavian rally driver ever!

I'll gladly admit it did the same to me, its brilliantly done and i added it straight to my favourites for sure. You're very welcome :)

Brillient Idea 👍

I will join this. Will keep my pace down and just do a few average laps :)

What night will this be on?

i'll be up for a bit of this:tup:

the M6 convoy to Banbury (Prodrive factory) i was in there somewhere

Sorry, I would join in just as a one off (Don't do many online Prologue events) but I can't make it being a Saturday which is a shame, anyway I wish you luck in the event!

I'll be there with bells on. I'm a huge fan of the Flying Scotsman, and I love driving AWD's.

I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States (PST), so I'm thinking I'm 9 hours behind GMT+1. Is this about right? That would put the event at 10am. Sounds like a good time to race. Right after breakfast, and on my day off to boot. You may see me doing a bit of sliding out there. I have just a little bit of experience with it. :sly:

;)

How about sharing some settings that allow "controlled sideways" with the subaru? I'm note very used to it.

Great post man. Gave me goosebumps. Loved it. Reporter,"So, How did you do it?" McRae, "I was quicker than everyone else."

Not specifically designed to drift (it's actualy not specifically tuned for this event), but should anybody require a tune: here is one.

So what time EST? I have to do a beach clean up in the morning saturday(service hours to graduate). If it is a possible time im all in for it and will be on N1-N2 going at it slideways.

I'm not responsible for working out everyones times for them, i clearly stated my timezone currently so everyone can work it out themselves, 7PM GMT+1 (GMT+0 but daylight saving.) then every 15.
