When they had the USC-NC game during the Ducks-UNLV half-time, the Tar Heels were down by double digit. It must've been an interesting second half.

Now, I want to see Greg Oden play.....

I have only two games to report. Two slots for this year's Final Four are up for grabs. Let me provide you some RAPID FIRE scores.

Chapter 4: Deliver us from Evil

(Division 2 Championship)
--- Men ---
* Barton vs. Winona State!
(77-75; Barton) ***#1 seed upset!***

(Winona State's 57-game winning streak snapped. Division 2 record)

--- Women ---
* Southern Connecticut State vs. Florida Gulf Coast!
(61-45; Southern Connecticut State) *** #1 Seed Upset!!! ***

(Florida Gulf Coast will step up to Division 1 in a couple of years)

Now on to the Division 1 boys.

RAPID FIRE
--- Men ---
* #1 Ohio State! vs. #2 Memphis (92-76; Ohio State!)
^ I heard Joey Dorsey (Memphis) called Greg Oden overrated. Dorsey and his boys are going to be eating plenty of crow for this. Oden had 17 points and nine rebounds. Dorsey had more fouls than points. In fact, he didn't get ANY points. He did, however, pick up three rebounds. So PLEASE be careful talking smack if you can't back it up. You dig, players?

* #2 UCLA vs. #1 Kansas! (68-55; California-Los Angeles)

--- Women ---
* Rutgers vs. #1 Duke! (53-52; Rutgers) *** #1 Seed Upset! ***
^ (I guess Duke's done. The women were the only chance of Duke getting some National Title love.)
* Bowling Green vs. Arizona State (67-49; Arizona State)
* North Carolina State vs. Connecticut (78-71; Connecticut)

I'm still a bit sick. I hope I can provide more scores in the future. I also hope I can actually get the Final Four scores down without some sort of disability. I had phone line problems on St. Patrick's Day weekend and sick with the fever this weekend. I hope this coming weekend that I won't have any sort of setback. So the first #1 to fall is Kansas. Will any other #1's fall on Sunday? Find out in my next report.

Stupid Kansas!

Stupid forum not letting me type in all caps! Pretend the above message is in all caps, and I'm yelling it.

I wanted to especially come here for my buddy FoolKiller. How do you feel about Tubby Smith being called up to go to Minnesota to be coach of the Golden Gophers? Who may fill the vacant spot at Kentucky?
Good for Tubby! He didn't deserve the crap he got. The fans ran him off and are so busy celebrating they don't realize that the team has been crippled. The timing is bad because we need a coach who can recruit right now, but the best coaches have been busy with a little tournament right now and we can't call them. I like to think that was Tubby's "screw you" to the fans.

Then we already have Morris signing with the Knicks and the other juniors will probably head out to the draft. I am waiting to see what the freshman do in the off-season, because we need them but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple transfer. Then one recruit already said he was coming to have Tubby as his mentor and he won't come now.

So, I want to congratulate the fans. They suddenly supported Rich Brooks after one decent season and managed to run a championship, two-time coach of the year out of town. WTF!!!!!

As for a replacement: We all want Billy Donovan, but he is busy and will probably be until April. We can't wait that long without losing recruiting prospects. Florida's recent championships in both big sports has the money to keep Donovan if he is just looking at money, but as the local paper said he has NOT said, "Don't call me," three times now in interviews. He came from Kentucky under Pitino and no one who has ever coached here in any way forgets this place.

If Donovan is out I am thinking that Travis Ford might be a good one to look at with long-term prospects. He is young, did a lot for Eastern Kentucky and hasn't been at UMass long enough to establish himself, but he has a style that will do very well at Kentucky, and we LOVE Travis Ford. I even had dinner with him and got his autograph when they did their senior barn storming tour around the state. Kentucky is his home.

Another prospect is also a former player I met during his barnstorming tour, John Pelphrey. Unfortunately I haven't followed his coaching career, but I know that he put a hurting on Western Kentucky for the Sunbelt Conference Tournament championship last year. And after just reading Wiki he won the regular season championship this year.

But with our AD playing a one-man search committee and after flubbing the football coaching position I have very low hopes.

I hope Tubby does well at Minnesota and when he does I will have a great big "I told you so," waiting for the fans that ran him off.

STUPID KANSAS!!

Also, LOL @ Joey Dorsey for being so unintentionally prophetic when he called himself 'Goliath' and Oden 'the little guy'.

Ducks and Heels both lost, but I thought Heels had it at the end of the game.

Boy was I wrong.

:(

With all due respect, Joey Dorsey got owned. I bet he'd say that Shaq and Yao Ming are Davids if he played them in the NBA. Oden slammed their asses. Here is a quick headline report:

* North Carolina Ran Out of Gas Against Georgetown in Overtime

* Florida Sends Oregon Packing

How about this? We are going to have Florida vs. UCLA- a rematch of last year's title game. Only this match is to get to the National Championship game. Atlanta... watch yourselves! Atlanta's going to become Hot-Lanta once this Final Four matchup is set. So it's going to be:

* Florida vs. UCLA
* Ohio State vs. Georgetown

Now the Final Four is set. What two are playing for a National Title... and who WILL win the title? [Dick] Vitale says that the title game will be between Florida vs. Ohio State. What do you think?

In terms of my bracket, I'd like to see Ohio State and UCLA.

But just for who I really want to win it, GO GEORGETOWN!

That's a bit funny, Max Powers... You're picking the team that denied your Pittsburgh Panthers an Elite Eight spot? I'm just pulling your leg, mate.

So Max Powers thinks the Final Four will trickle down to UCLA and Georgetown with UCLA picking up their 12th National Championship. Do you like that matchup? Or do you have a better Final Four/National Champion prediction?

All I can say is that it's sad if your favorite team didn't make the Final Four. At least you can have some fun and decide who this season's champion will be. Hell, my hometown Houston Cougars didn't make the dance, not even the NIT (they did have a bad year despite their advancement to the C-USA title game). FoolKiller's Kentucky Wildcats didn't get their shot at an 8th title. Kansas' lost p***ed off Klostrophobic. Hell, I was ticked off that North Carolina didn't make the Final Four. I think true sports fans still try to cheer on what other team will win. It's okay to support your favorite team 'till death do us part, but go and try to figure out how this year's tourney will end. Maybe the eventual winner would be someone you'd love to slap around come next season!

I hate voting against either team in the Final Four matches. I thought Georgetown vs. North Carolina could have gone either way. Regardless of who won that game, Ohio State's going to have one hell of an opponent in Atlanta. Here are my predicted Final Four matches including who would win:

PREDICTED NATIONAL TITLE MATCHES AND WINNERS
* Florida vs. Ohio State = Ohio State (couldn't beat them in football, so why not return the favor in hoops? Can't believe I just said that with a school as talented as Ohio State)
* Florida vs. Georgetown = Florida (barely)
* UCLA vs. Georgetown = Georgetown in Overtime
* UCLA vs. Ohio State = UCLA

I basically picked every other team to win. I never confidentally tell who's going to win outright, even if I have to eat crow for making a bad pick. So go ahead... YOU tell ME who's going to win the Final Four games and who'll take home the National Title? Go for it!

After seeing UCLA completely dismantle Kansas like that, I have to pick them to win it all. I was convinced that Kansas was the cream of the crop this year, but UCLA mopped the floor with them. They've got a great team, some teriffic outside shooters, and one of the best coaches in the game. Plus their defensive play is second to none.

If UCLA doesn't take it, I'll have to go with Georgetown. They've been a solid team all year, and I really like Hibbert, he's like a tougher and more athletic versin of Aaron Gray.

As long as Ohio State doesn't win, I'm happy...I hate them so much:mad:

An interesting tidbit yesterday had Billy Donovan as a guest of "Pardon the Interruption." One of the questions asked to him from Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon was about any plans of him coaching at Kentucky for next season. He exclaimed that all he cares about right now is taking Florida to their second successive National Title. Other than Billy Donovan, John Calipari of Memphis was questioned. I don't think he's shown interest in leaving Memphis for Kentucky.

Something I didn't report yesterday:

My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Jason Ray, who was hit by an SUV three days ago. What's so special about him? He's the person who plays as Ramseses, North Carolina's mascot. So North Carolina loses twice in only two days- they lost (unusually) to Georgetown by running out of gas late, now they've lost Jason Ray. In addition, he was going to graduate this Spring semester. Jason Ray was 21 years old.

Alright people... the Final Four begins Saturday night. Are you SURE your Final Four picks will win? Atlanta, get ready for some college basketball goodness! Same goes for Clevland for the ladies. Time to get ready for some more hoops.

Hoping the weather doesn't get bad enough for me to try to get my reports in, it's time we begin Chapter 5: "Double Duels for Destiny."

Really? Nobody is talking about the games tonight? I was hugely disappointed, I really did not want to see an Ohio State - Florida matchup, I was really pulling for both UCLA and Georgetown, but they both got beaten pretty badly, especially UCLA. I guess Florida did the same thing to them last year, but I was convinced that UCLA had it together after that impressive Kansas win.

Oh well, Go Florida...I guess...

You came to see a Final Four come down to two. So let's do this.

Chapter 5: "Double Duels for Destiny"

--- Georgetown vs. Ohio State from Atlanta - Final Four ---
* Georgetown *HOYAS* vs. Ohio State *BUCKEYES*
Two teams with two completely unique nicknames are in the house. The Georgia Dome has two teams not seriously near Atlanta. It's Washington, D.C.'s Georgetown University and Columbus, OH's Ohio State. Ohio State isn't typically known as a basketball power since most people immediately think of football in talking about Ohio State. That's perfectly fine because Ohio State would love nothing more but to take down Florida after their football team. Klostrophobic's Buckeyes are ready to slam down the rock all over Georgetown. Now let's meet the other team. Georgetown University is almost the complete opposite. Most people know Georgetown as a basketball power. This is a team that has pretty much rediscovered their identity and are playing with extreme pride. Georgetown's football team usually lose game after game in Patriot League football. The Hoyas have two proud basketball alum such as Dikembe Mutumbo and Patrick Ewing among others. The NBA greats may not be playing this game (there is a younger Ewing on the court), but it's G'Town looking to take down Ohio State. Did they do it? Ohio State just pulled away to win. Florida and UCLA will have one hell of an opponent coming up.

FINAL:
Georgetown - 60
Ohio State - 67 (will meet the Florida/UCLA winner for the National Championship)

Ohio State's going to play for a National Title for the first time since 1962(?). We will find out who will join Ohio State in this rematch of last season's National Championship game.

--- #2 UCLA vs. #1 Florida from Atlanta, GA ---
* #2 UCLA vs. #1 Florida!
Here's a game you wished was a rematch for the National Championship. Sadly, it's a Final Four match. A good aspect is that Florida has all five of their starters. So it's likely that UCLA will be ready to pay back Florida a thousand times over after a year has passed. Wouldn't it be sweet for UCLA to win National Title #12 and make Kentucky's attempts at one year passing UCLA for most national championships a bit harder? There's even talk that Billy Donovan may look into the Kentucky job once Florida's done in Atlanta. We got basketball. We got two teams with good football teams. And we have two great football schools with great men's hoops programs. So let's get it. This is the classic East vs. West battle. Florida has established themselves as a tough-to-beat school in football and now basketball. The Gators are ready to do that Gator Chomp all the way into the title game. Will the Gators slither their way into the title game on Monday? Not if UCLA has anything to say about it. UCLA thinks Florida is overrated. The Los Angeles boys are ready to call "cut!" on Florida's national title chances. The Bruins lost big last time and will be damned to lose again to these Gainesville Gators. Who's staying in the A.T.L.? Let's find out together. After ten minutes of play, the score was 9-6 in favor of Florida. This is the score of a defense-happy football game. This is like two teams exchanging field goal kicks. Many minutes later, Florida led 76-64. Looks like we could have a football

FINAL:
California-Los Angeles - 66
Florida - 76 (get ready, Ohio State!)

So here's your National Championship game: Ohio State vs. Florida. Two #1 seeds will collide. Florida's chasing history while Ohio State wants to take down America's hottest of-the-moment college sports school. Monday Night Football? We got Monday Night Basketball. Alright people... who's going to win and why?

The men's National Championship game is going to take form Monday. But first, let's see how the ladies play roundball. It's the Final Four for the women. I may not be a rock and roll fanatic (much less a serious fan), but this has been the marketing point of this Final Four in Clevland since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Clevland. Let's see who'll be playing for a National Championship.

2007 Women's Final Four (Silver Anniversary of Women's College Basketball)

About the City: Clevland, Ohio
Clevland is a city that hosts a number of different sporting events. You can see Clevland Cavalier basketball, Browns football in the NFL, and Indians' baseball playing in the American League of Major League Baseball. Racing fans also get a chance to see action because Burke Lakefront Airport hosts one of the finest gut checks in racing. Those airport runways provide lots of room for cars to race on. With not a lot in the way of walls to save you or provide entry points for racing, you'll need a lot of courage to survive. Clevland is home of the aforementioned Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some of the ESPN intros to the women's championship shown some of the coaches and players like they have album covers. Nice touch. There is no true bigtime college football (or even basketball) power in the city of Clevland. Only true Division 1 power in Clevland is non-football school, Clevland State University- home of the Vikings. You could play college football in this city or in the general vincinity by playing in Division 3 for John Caroll University. The Clevland Heights school is part of the OAC (Ohio Athletic Conference). Coincidentally, you can also play Division 3 basketball for them.

DID YOU KNOW...
...that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is less than a one-mile drive away from the Clevland Browns Stadium? You could visit the museum just over one mile away from Clevland State University.

--- Women's Final Four: #4 Rutgers vs. #3 LSU from Clevland, OH ---
#4 Rutgers vs. #3 LSU
The men's National Championship game is set. But what about the ladies? Read on, enthused ones. People who know women's college basketball know that the toughest teams in the nation are from the SEC. The Lady Tigers of LSU are one of them. Too bad the Baton Rouge, LA unit fell short as they got blown out by the Lady Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. The Piscateway(?), NJ unit will make their first-ever National Championship game in school history. This score is true. No need to flip-flop the scores because I tell the truth and only the truth.

FINAL:
#4 Rutgers - 59
#3 Louisiana State - 35

SIDE NOTE:
This loss is the lowest number of points in a Final Four match.

--- Women's Final Four: #1 North Carolina vs. #1 Tennessee from Clevland, OH ---
#1 North Carolina! vs. #1 Tennessee!
22-21 in favor of Tennessee at the half. This game was more impressive than the lackluster effort LSU put against Rutgers. The Lady Tar Heels under Ivory Latta's basketball play wasn't enough to take down the Lady Volunteers under Candace Parker's exceptional ball play.

FINAL:
#1 North Carolina! - 50
#1 Tennessee! - 56

Now let's talk about the men.

The ESPN College Gameday analysis crew (Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps, Dick Vitale, and hosted by Rece Davis(?)) all picked Florida to win on Monday. Does anyone want to choose Ohio State over Florida? Or is Florida just too good? (Off-topic) Maybe that's what you get when you go to Duke. Bilas and Vitale are Duke grads while R. Davis is out of Alabama. Believe it or not, one of the co-founders of Wikipedia is an Alabama grad as well. Not sure about Digger's alma mater. That's why I didn't bring him up.

Kevin Durant (Texas) won the Naismith Award. He is the first freshman to win the award. This is known as the Heisman of college hoops. I congratulate the Maryland native for giving Texas this win.

Men's title game tonight. Are you SURE that Florida will win outright? Or can Ohio State beat every team in every sport... besides Florida? Carry on!

Wow, Florida is really running away with this game. They've been nailing their 3's all night, and OSU looks completely exhausted right now. Depth is really huge, and it's the reason Florida is gonna win this game. They've got fresh bodies out there who are always hustling, meanwhile Ohio State doesn't even know what hit them.

Here's the short report (to be edited in a future edit):

Florida led 40-29 at the half. After 20 more minutes, Florida becomes the first repeat champs since Duke in the early 1990s. Maybe Florida is for real by bringing back all five of their starting five and performing like champions. Maybe Joey Dorsey (Memphis) is proud that someone overrated Greg Oden. Dorsey couldn't do it; but Florida did.

FINAL:
#1 Ohio State! - 75
#1 Florida - 84 *+x 2007 NCAA Division 1 Men's Champions x+*

What do you all think of Florida now?

The men are done. Now it's the womens' turn for action. It's time to hit Clevland.

--- Women's National Championship from Clevland: #4 Rutgers vs. #1 Tennessee ---
#4 Rutgers vs. #1 Tennessee!
Tired of the rock and roll influences? Because I have to suck up to rock music since we're talking about Clevland, I have to. Five ladies will outshine another group of five ladies. Let the bodies hit the floor on the boulevard of broken dreams. One team will be air guitaring "we are the champions" while five other ladies will be air guitaring "I'm a loser, baby. So why don't you..." ...uh, okay. A little too rough there. Anyhow, two teams- one title. Let's get it on in Clevland! Rutgers is basically Cinderella here after they took good care of LSU in their Final Four match. The floor of the women's Final Four in Clevland has a big guitar design on it. My brother owns a couple of guitars (even a cello nobody uses), and Rutgers are ready to put on a jam session against Tenneessee. The Lady Scarlet Knights are advised to improvise on the fly. Tennessee is ready to ready to rock Clevland to its foundation. The ladies of the Volunteer State are ready to take down some New Jersey girls. Tennessee knows how to hit that axe. Their brand of women's basketball is incredible. They know how to be the best and remain the best- like Aerosmith. The Lady Volunteers are ready to make plenty of noise. Welcome to the jungle, baby! Let's get this. Rutgers knew they had to capitalize as much as possible to win this game. They didn't do a good job of that as Rutgers saw Tennessee lead them 29-18 after 20 minutes. Rutgers had a number of chances to get this done. In the end, the guitar heroines were Tennessee as they won 59-46. Okay... game over. I'm an electronica/hip-hop guy that ran out of rock clichés.

FINAL:

#4 Rutgers - 46
#1 Tennessee! - 59 *+x 2007 NCAA Division 1 Women's National Champions x+*

SIDE NOTE:
Tennessee has won their seventh women's National Championship. Kentucky has seven titles in the Men's division. So maybe this shows that (with the exception of UCLA) the SEC knows how to win championships in hoops. This, in addition to being great in football.

--- EXTRA ---
The Division 1 ranks basically has an SEC sweep. Florida cleaned house in the Men's ranks, then Tennessee won in the women's ranks. This shows that even conferences like the ACC, Big Ten, and (especially) the Big East can't hold a candle to the SEC if they can't beat the SEC.

Coming soon is a season-in-review thread. Look for it. Congratulations to Florida (men) and Tennessee (women). It's an SEC sweep for the NCAA tournament.

So, I finally got a free moment at work and just wanted to jump in with my recent basketball thoughts.

First, I recall that somewhere I said something about us having teh same championship game in basketball as we did in football. If I had more time I would actually look it up.

Second, I was sure Florida would win. Whether it was because I watch them in the SEC all year or because Donovan is a new Kentucky coach possibility and a repeat would make his stock (salary) go up, I just knew it would happen.

Then that brings me to the Kentucky coach issue. I did not think it would be Donovan, even though I knew he would be good. But as time goes on things make me think it is more and more likely. As was mentioned, he was on PTI and he found a million ways to not answer the question. He is either willing to at least look at the offer or he is pressuring Florida for a raise.

Then I also consider that Kentucky is a basketball school and Donovan is a basketball coach at a football school. Kentucky basketball has a bit of prestige to it and you know he will be the most important guy there. When your school is a big main supporter of a sport other than yours then sometimes even a national title is only good for about a week before you get forgotten.

And then what I think is the biggest, and possibly least looked at, issue here: Donovan's wife is from Lexington, KY. She has played the perfect coach's wife with running the kids around carpooling, and all the other stuff you expect a coach's wife has to deal with. How much do you think she would love to be back home? Does it pain a Kentucky girl to wear orange and blue instead of blue and white? Does she miss her family? I know I drive 40 miles to work every morning because my wife wanted to live near her family, and my best friend has every other weekend filled with his in-laws coming in to visit. On the other hand, I see my family about once a month, if that, and they are just 30 miutes away. How much do you want to bet that the Donovan household has had a few conversations about how great she thinks it would be if she moved back to Lexington? And don't think that any representative from Kentucky hasn't dropped that bomb out there. Just before Pitino left Kentucky his wife got so tired of living in "the country" that she was living in New York part-time (And yes Louisville is that much bigger than Lexington, especially culturally). Behind every great man is a woman, or as my stepfather likes to say, "If Momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy."

And then, Kentucky had to find someone quickly. Tomorrow will be a full two weeks since Tubby left. The firm Kentucky is using likes to get the deal done in less than two weeks. Coincidentally this is the same firm that quietly whisked Tubby away from Kentucky. They have quite a racket going on there. What do they do, hand the AD their card as they help the coach carry his bags out the door?

Either no one likes Kentucky now, or Florida is supposed to celebrate their victory on Friday and announcing his leaving before then would be cruel and uncaring.

Of course, none of this could mean anything, but if we don't have an announcement at the end of this week, then my money will be on Donovan.
