Was out working an event all day today, didn't get to see any of the games. Love to see Miami go down!

And TCU got what they had coming, I'm sure their players knew as well as everyone else did what was about to happen in that game.
Did you watch it or just see highlights?

All I've noted was just highlights of TCU at Kansas. Only game I sort of was watching was #11 Georgetown at #8 Syracuse.

Bill Self picked up his 500th win as coach not too long ago. The Kansas Jayhawks coach got it at Iowa State as his KU Jayhawks won 108-96. As I've heard, however, there was a controversial ending to that game to where Cyclones fans would be pretty irritated. Regardless, congratulations to Mr. Bill Self on getting win number 500.

There were two, Elijah charged but was called a block on Iowa State, also a blocking foul was called on Kevin Young that was obviously Withey's 5th. Nevertheless, EJ played a hell of a game (39 pts, 7 assists) draining back to back threes in the final minute to put the game in overtime.

500 for Bill, well deserved.

Oh, you know I'm irritated.. :grumpy:

Well, when it was discussed on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," I think Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser both noted that Iowa State got hosed. With the officiating from what I saw, I didn't know you can be on your backside and get called for a reach-in foul. I do sort of think Iowa State got hosed in that game last night.

Still, a win is a win. That win still will be under lots of scrutiny.

What can I say- it's March! Final games of the regular season followed by the tournament alignments this month.

Lot of big games today including Miami at Duke.

GTHC, read my post regarding last Duke-Carolina game for explanation.

How will they blow it in the second half, the story shall unfold before our very eyes.

As soon as Carolina shows the first sniff of a press, we forget how to play basketball. I don't like this.

Good job Duke.

I love it when Michigan loses. That was just hilarious.

Selection Sunday is this Sunday. Unless you've won your conference tournament already, the field is still being panned out to determine the ones who will be playing for a National Championship in the NCAA D1 ranks. The first to get into this season's tourney are the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast University. They beat Mercer 88-75 for their first-ever NCAA D1 tournament appearance.

Congratulations to all conference champions between now and when the final tournament field is decided.

It's St. Patrick's Day, but it's also Selection Sunday for NCAA D1 basketball. Will luck be on the side of your team in making the NCAA Tournament? We shall see later tonight.

Duke will hopefully advance out of the first round this year. If they do, I fear a potential Plumlee rape by Doug McDermott.

If Duke weren't so bad this year I'd say this is a fairly light quarter of the bracket.

So that is this year's Men's NCAA D1 Men's field. My observation... absolutely NO teams from Texas. Not one! There's also no Tennessee or Kentucky. Virginia didn't get in.

Up in the near future will be the NCAA D1 Women's field. I may be sure to cover that bracket as well.

Anybody up for a GTP March Madness braket competition? If so ill start a thread, just wanted to gauge interest first. I know there's only about 3 or 4 of us who post in here :P

THIS JUST IN...

#8 Robert Morris beat #1 Kentucky in the first round of the 2012-2013 NIT with a 59-57 victory. Kentucky's depressing season is now over. UK tried to jack up a three with about two seconds left and bricks the possible game-winner. One thing... Kentucky was playing AT Robert Morris. This Pittsburgh football school (Robert Morris University) tamed the Wildcats. The RMU Colonials took care of business, 86ing Kentucky from the Men's NIT. Wow!

Just about to post the same thing. I laughed so hard. Shows how much Calipari depends on his freshmen. If they're the buns, then he's in deep doodoo.

Careful, Cam. You don't want to get your first infraction... :grumpy:

I didn't read who posted that at first and tried to figure out what in that post was considered cursing .

But in all honesty, I expect to be dealing with the same type of comments about Duke here within a game or two.

Today is apparently the anniversary of Christian Laettner being the hero for Duke in their 1992 match against Kentucky. Laettner was voted the most hated college basketball player of all-time. I wonder if the vast majority of those voters were Kentucky fans...

Shaka Smart will remain at Virginia Commonwealth rather than take up a high-profile job (like UCLA). I think he'll need to win at least one NCAA Championship to really solidify himself as one of the best D1 Men's coaches anywhere in the country.

He's one of my favorites because he goes against the norm. He shows that his team will be better than most because they run and press and bother your ball handlers for every second of the 40 minutes, while many other teams lay off and play a half court game.

This, by definition, requires extensive conditioning over the summer and makes it difficult to maintain a good player-coach relationship (also vital) which he still balances, making him the best in the biz.
