College... basketball musings? Check it, mates...

* The Kentucky Wildcats did a little bird watching tonight. They feasted on some Louisville Cardinals with a 93-85 win. Yes, Jordan, your Wildcats did good tonight. Congratulations!

* Sadly, Dolph Drago's Purdue Boilermakers didn't do good tonight. The 17th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies took down the 11th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers 70-66.

* The 19th-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers dropped an NCAA-record 30 3-point shots and absolutely smashed the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles 139-59. The Lady Volunteers bombed 30 3-pointers in this one.

* That's the Lady Volunteers. How did the men do? Well, the Tennessee Volunteers prevented overtime from happening with a game-winning layup to win 66-64.

* Regulation solved nothing between Memphis and No. 16 Clemson. The Memphis Tigers held off the Clemson Tigers 87-82 in Overtime.

This is just a few musings to share. Congratulations to all winners (men and women) from today!

Oakland played Michigan State better than I thought they would, but man, that was still brutal. Free throws and FGs are a problem, but we can still hit 3's.

The final score from that one was 77-58, No. 20 Michigan State over Oakland. Rough go for the Golden Grizzlies against the Michigan State Spartans.

There are times when non-NCAA Division 1 basketball teams defeat NCAA Division 1 basketball teams. A team having a woeful 2024-2025 season is the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (or just Green Bay). The UWGB Phoenix took a 72-70 loss at home to the Michigan Tech Huskies of NCAA Division 2. Doug Gottlieb, who I didn't even know became a coach and someone I share a birthday with (January 15), referred to lesser opponents as "Nobody U." Well, this "Nobody U" extended UWGB's losing streak to eight games and fall to 2-11 on the 2024-2025 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball season. The Phoenix' next opponent is at the undefeated Drake Bulldogs.

Wisconsin-Green Bay's men's basketball team currently sits at 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the Horizon League. The men are also dead last in the Horizon League standings. I know UWGB better as a very good women's hoops school, and so the UWGB women are 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League. The women are currently 5th in the Horizon League right now.
