Welcome to Week 3. Hope you got your books now that the Fall Semester at GTPlanet University is well underway. The theme for this week is "One Team, One Dream." You see, there is no "I" in team. A team must all come together to get things done both on the field and in life. A team that lacks chemistry is liable for failure. None of the National Championship teams in any division of college football could win if there wasn't chemistry. You have to be a team to win a team sport like football. So let's start the week off.

NOTE: You came to my threads for college football. But starting this week on out, I will provide an NFL focus to talk some NFL Football because today's college stars are likely heading into the National Football League when stars go pro. These will usually come after all scores have been tabulated.

Last Week...

Michigan's Heart Ripped Out - I had Michigan going 2-0 at this point. However, the record is transposed to 0-2. This is NOT Michigan football. They usually knock teams on their asses. Lloyd Carr's job is on the line. Joey D said the Oregon blowout was a disgrace to the Michigan Wolverines.

Notre Dame and Michigan Start 0-2 First Time Ever - Notre Dame was unhappy in Happy Valley as the Nittany Lions got it done on Saturday night. This weekend, Notre Dame will head to Michigan. SOMEONE is going to record their first "W" of the season with this game. The loser of this game is going to be pretty damn unhappy with how this season goes.

Kentucky's Ready for Louisville
Kentucky and Louisville will see one team go unbeaten while the other will get rattled like a free safety charging right at the opposing QB for a sack. Lexington's boys and Louisville's boys will converge on the battlefield known as Commonwealth Stadium. It's time to see who's the better Kentucky-based team. It's Andre Woodson (QB, Kentucky) vs. Brian Brohm (QB, Louisville). I'm sure FoolKiller will try to get a cheer going to wish Louisville loses at Lexington's house. Kentucky will hit the road after this game to meet Arkansas next week.

Boise State Tries to Start a New Winning Streak
Seattle's beloved breed of dog saw the Washington Huskies pick up a huge win over the Boise State Broncos. The WAC story will be Boise State vs. Hawaii, but that isn't until later this year. Boise State fell out of the Top 25 as a result of this loss.

"Hey, John... Why Didn't You Vote US for Upset of the Week?"
I'm talking about South Florida heading into Auburn and crushing them in Overtime. That was an impressive win as there's been a lot of good vibes for South Florida (unlike their men's basketball team). It was an amazing result. Down the road, however, Pittsburgh and West Virginia (granted USoFl plays them) will prove a bigger task for South Florida to be a viable threat.

Would you believe it? No games were played today! So I'll go to extras.

--- NFL Focus ---
A little of everything, right? Here are a few NFL news and notes.

The Matt Schaub Era Begins
* Chiefs at Texans
(20-3; HOUSTON TEXANS) <<< Mario Williams got a touchdown after a Chiefs fumble; 1st Opening Day win in four years.

No Vick, No Problem?
* Falcons at Vikings
(??-??; MINNESOTA VIKINGS) <<< Atlanta picked off several times

A New England Frag-Fest
* Patriots at Jets
(38-14; New England Patriots) <<< New England Makes 108-yd Coast-to-Coast touchdown to start third quarter.

Vince Young Motors On into Jacksonville
* Titans at Jaguars
(13-10; Tennessee Titans) <<< Byron Leftwich no longer the starter for Jacksonville

Western New York State in Shock and Awe
* Broncos at Bills
(15-14; Denver Broncos) <<< hurry-up offense set up a great field goal unit to kick the game-winning field goal. Simply the coolest play of Sunday's games in my view.

John's Student Lounge
I renamed my extras segment as John's Student Lounge. So let's see what extras I have planned for you all.

Dario Franchitti Reportedly Will Enter NASCAR Next Year
You fans of Ashley Judd will get to see the University of Kentucky graduate be alongside Dario Franchitti in NASCAR. Dario will drive the #40 car in 2008 for Chip Ganassi in NASCAR. He'll have to make some starts in NASCAR to qualify for the 2008 Daytona 500. The contract plan is to run for about five years.

Title Fight in the IndyCar Series Down to the Wire at Chicagoland
A beautiful day in Joliet, IL saw a title fight between New Zealand's Scott Dixon and Scotland's Dario Franchitti. The dark horse was Tony Kannan. For Kannan to win the title, the Brazilian has to hope the other two DNF, and Kannan must win. Another story is that Danica Patrick is coming off of her best-ever finish of 2nd in Detroit. Caution came out as the star-crossed Marco Andretti smacked the outside wall. And in dramatic fashion, Scott Dixon ran out of fuel as Dario Franchitti got himself one hell of a win. Danica Patrick was probably going to get a Top 10, but she forced the final caution as she applied too much throttle heading into the pits to eventually spin out. Dario simply powered to a finish as Dario Franchitti won the race and the 2007 IndyCar Championship.

Off-Topic on the F1 Grand Prix of Italy at Monza
There was a Safety Car period at Monza. On Lap 5 during the Safety Car period, the cameras and microphones picked up the engine note of that Mercedes-Benz safety car. Did you hear that thing? That thing sounds GREAT! Almost seemed like Jeremy Clarkson was riding that bad boy flat out around Monza. I love Monza. Great high-speed race track that is also quite technical. Nothing like blasting down that long Monza straight before having to brake into that series of left-right-left corners.

I Found Out I Got the Big Ten Network
My parents' Dish Network deal has me with the Big Ten Network. I live here in Houston. Channel 416 for me is Fox Sports Southwest, and 439 is the Big Ten network. Bad news is that I don't really have alternative channels to view any possible games available from other networks. I typed this Extra up at 4:00 PM CDT. The program that was on was "The Big Ten's Greatest Games" regarding the matchup between Minnesota at Penn State in 1999. So it's possible I'll have some more options in college football when reporting scores.

A few personal notes...
* I'm not really into Chris Brown, but I'll admit. This guy's got some talent.
* Rihanna and Justin Timberlake really cleaned house. Rihanna is absolutely lovely. The exotic beauty from Barbados got herself two Moon Men. Justin Timberlake really makes the girls go crazy. I was never a "boy band" lover, but when N*SYNC (remember them?) wasn't anymore, he's been bumping radios and making girls go crazy. Good job, man.
* Kanye West really got Vegas jumpin' with his hot track, "Stronger."
* MTV almost allowed Jamie Foxx to say "****." They blocked it out almost too late!

No games at all until Thursday. Feel free to comment away as Week 3 is on.

Remember that I will focus on America's service academies in college football. That means Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Michigan Will Be Without Chad Henne This Saturday
People, more bad news could bring Michigan to 0-3 if this weekend doesn't go right. Chad Henne will not start on Saturday in their 2:30 PM CDT match on Saturday against Notre Dame. The reason for Henne's disability is undisclosed. In his place will be freshman QB Ryan Mallett This may not be the GAME OF THE WEEK, but it will be the game that will follow the GAME OF THE WEEK.

Virginia Tech Changes Quarterbacks
Tyrod Talor replaces Sean Glennon for the QB job at Virginia Tech. The Hokies got eviscerated in Baton Rouge by the ravenous LSU Tigers. VT will play at home this Saturday against Ohio. Do remember not to boo the Ohio Bobcats since this is a year of healing for VT.

NFL Focus

NFL FOCUS: Banged Up
The NFL's been innundated with Opening Day injuries. Eli Manning may be out for a month with shoulder troubles. The biggest one of concern is that to Mr. Everett of the Buffalo Bills. He was told to have potentially life-threatening spinal cord injuries for a special teams tackle. There is somewhat of a chance he can walk this off, but he's not expected to fully recover. Football is a power sport. Injuries are the least thing you want in a team sport or in any sport for that matter. So I'm going to try to pull for Kevin Everett to stay alive. Permanent neurological paralysis is the diagnosis. Everett is 25 years old. * Locallly, Jason Simmons for my Houston Texans is done for the season with knee(?) injury. *

NFL FOCUS: Russell Movin' on Up
JaMarcus Russell has been signed by the Oakland Raiders. The former LSU quarterback agrees to a 6-year deal worth $68 million dollars maximum.

--- Don't Forget to Wear Your American Colors Tomorrow ---
The September 11th Attacks on America were just unbearable to watch or even imagine. The scary thing? The September 11th attacks on America took place on a Tuesday in 2001. Six years later, it's 9/11 again... on a Tuesday. Just remember to show your American colors. I have an Old Navy shirt with the American flag as well as a green T-shirt with "USA" on it kind of like in an Air Force way.

My college football tribute will be about how America's service academies are faring in college football this season. That means the Army Black Knights, the Navy Midshipmen, the Air Force Falcons, and Division 3's Coast Guard Bears. It wasn't until last year's Wings Over Houston Air Show in which I learned that the Coast Guard is actually America's first line of defense from any sort of terrorist opposition to reach American shoes. I always thought they were a life saving organization. Just didn't know they were a full-fledge military unit. DID YOU KNOW... ...that "Semper Fidelis" ("better known as "Semper Fi") is Latin for "always faithful?"

That's all for this report. My next report will be my own personal look at the four service academies who have sports teams. Afterwards, I may even touch up on Notre Dame at Michigan as well as Louisville at Kentucky.

Pure Kentucky post (because I hope everyone else loses, I only get 50% of my wish though).

Listening to the Coach Rich Brooks call-in show while sitting in stand-still traffic last night and he sounds confident. He said that he is sure Louisville's defense will not be what we have seen the last two weeks, but he thinks we can beat them. The host, Tom Leach, even quoted one analyst giving UK 10 points. Rich Brooks was funny as people asked him about the game and were talking big and you could tell coach Brooks wanted to say they were all right and we would walk all over Louisville because we have shown the ability to adjust at half time while Louisville has not.

For the first time since I was a student at UK I believe we can win this game.

I'm waiting for someone to quote all my bad talk about coach Brooks in the past. He surprised me last year as it was his last chance in my eyes, and he did exactly what I wanted, went to and won a bowl game.

I think any team can beat ANY team no matter how big or how small. It all comes down to execution on both offense and defense. I think Kentucky could be able to get it done. Andre Woodson's been getting some positive vibes. And for those who haven't seen him or analyzed his ability under center, people will get to see him in action this weekend. As a friend of yours, I hope Kentucky has a great game. It would be interesting if Kentucky played lights-out football against Louisville and beat them. It would be a great upset since it's an unranked school up against a Top 10 school. But as you said, this year's Louisville could be a wild card. So it's possible Louisville may have a few jigsaw puzzle pieces missing. Question is, can your Wildcats capitalize and make the most of every opportunity on offense?

I know one thing. Kentucky better bring their A-Game against Louisville. Otherwise, you're looking at a 2-1 record for the blue and white of Kentucky.

I'll come up with my own little look at the four service academies in football in a later post. Stay tuned.

Six years ago, we suffered one of the darkest days of American history. The horrific events in New York City on this exact day six years ago were absolutely terrible to watch. Many lives were lost on that day. Since then, we've had our armed forces serve and protect our land, our skies, and our seas. I understand that this isn't a forum on current events. My own contribution for this thread is my look at America's four service academies and how their college football teams are doing this season.

--- John's College Football Tribute to Our Service Academies ---
(I credit Wikipedia for some of my facts)

Army Black Knights
The United States Military Academy is situated in a beautiful setting. West Point, NY is where this school is located. It is a place in which people like Buzz Aldrin and Mike Kryzewski enrolled and graduated from. This school is a former three-time National Champion in football. Now, the Black Knights are completely mediocre. They won against Rhode Island over the weekend in a 14-7 win in Overtime. Army has two road games coming up in ACC country. They'll head to Wake Forest to meet the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Saturday, then they'll take on Boston College the Saturday after. They'll play their Commander-in-Chief rivals Air Force at Air Force November 3rd. After that, December 1 is when you can see the Army/Navy game. This year, the game will be at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD. Army is currently 1-1.

Navy Midshipmen
Ex Scientia Tridens. That means "From Knowledge, Seapower." This is the academy where future Naval soldiers and Marines are trained to help provide nautical support. The boys and girls of Annapolis, Maryland is the site where the United States Naval Academy can be found. The Midshipmen are called by CSTV (College Sports Television) as America's team for the patriotic spark they bring along with their amazing sports teams. They are the best football school among service academies. Navy won 30-19 at vanilla Temple, but fell 41-24 at Rutgers. They will play this weekend for homecoming against Ball State. In fact, they will play their next three games at home. They get Duke next Saturday, and will host Air Force for the Commander-in-Chief rivalry deal. They have a tough match on the road after Air Force. They will meet against the Pittsburgh Panthers on October 10th. They will return home and play Wake Forest on October 20th and Delaware on October 27th. Their final tough game will be on the road at Notre Dame on November 3rd. Like Army, Navy is 1-1.

Air Force Falcons
Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the United States Air Force Academy can be found there. The Air Force represent our military aircraft that patrol our skies. I can remember in the evening time on September 11th, 2001 that I heard some fighter jets zoom over our house. They were patroling our skies as air traffic was at a standstill that day. I often get to see some of the military aircraft at the Wings Over Houston air show at Ellington Field. These ranged from beautiful machines that fought in World War 2 to some more modern aircraft. Like how we have the FJ Harrier jet that can make a vertical takeoff. Air Force football has taken off quite well. They are currently 2-0 with a 34-3 win over South Carolina State and 20-12 over Utah. Air Force will host a tough opponent in TCU this Thursday. They'll then hit the road to meet BYU on September 22nd, then September 29th at Navy. They'll come back home and begin full-time Mountain West play against UNLV. Army will go to Air Force on November 3rd.

Coast Guard Bears (Division 3)
Finally, we check in with the United States Coast Guard Academy. Their translated motto means "the sea yields to knowledge." Prospective students are admitted on merit and not by Congressional nomination. They are America's first line of defense against any incoming terror. The Bears of Coast Guard play in the Bogan Division of the New England Football Conference. They have played only one game. The Bears knocked off Merchant Marine 36-31 to improve to 1-0. They will play at the Panthers of Plymouth State this Saturday.

You know how the NCAA commercials say that their students will go pro in something other than sports? These are the men and women who go pro in defending our nation and carrying out any such tasks to protect our nation or eliminate an enemy. I honor all of the proud men and women of the United States Armed Forces for protecting us all and taking down any such opposition that comes our way. You are the ones who sacrifice your lives to save many others' lives. Thank you for all you do. May God bless all of you.

And that is my college football tribute to America's four service academies. Thanks for reading. Take care.

Two rivalries are set to take place this weekend. I'll do a little role play to provide my views of two games: Notre Dame at Michigan and Louisville at Kentucky. Here goes:

--- Role Playing ---

Notre Dame at Michigan

John is Notre Dame
INTERVIEWER: "You are currently 0-2 this season, and so are your opponents. How do you go about this game?"
"Here's the thing. People talk all the time about how terrible of a football program we are. You know... we're overrated, we choose to be Independent rather than join the Big East or Big Ten, we're too good for ESPN/ABC, so we get on NBC. I'll tell you what. Do you know my man Charlie Weis? Coached a team called the New England Patriots to what... two or three Super Bowl wins? We learned to put aside blunders like Georgia Tech and Penn State aside. We put up only 13 points all season. But guess what? Appalachian State and Oregon shown that Michigan CAN be beaten at home, even beaten bad. So we'll prove all doubters wrong and make Michigan cry like babies again. Michigan going 0-3. Sweet music. Ohio State can have what's left of Michigan. We're the Fighting Irish, and we'll fight to win over Michigan."

John is Michigan
* INTERVIEWER: "Notre Dame thinks they can beat you. Will you actually get your (I can't believe I'm saying this about a school as good as yours) first win of the season against the visiting Fighting Irish?"
"I heard all the smack Notre Dame was talking. Here's a suggestion for Notre Dame: WIN SOME GAMES! Win a National Championship again! Stop talking and start doing. And you know what? We're going to show that Wolverine-hater named Michael Wilbon of "Pardon the Interruption" that we aren't going to go 0-12. We're going to get our first win over some boys from South Bend. No matter who from South Bend, East Lansing, or Columbus thinks, we are NOT dead. You have to beat us to be done with us! And don't worry. Lloyd Carr will do a good job to make sure we win this game and come out smelling like roses. Who is Notre Dame to think that anyone can come into our house and beat us? I don't care if we invite Division 2's Grand Valley State to play against us. Simply put, we will win. Take that ballpoint pen and mark it down. Post it on the Internet. Put it in some Myspace profile- WE WILL BEAT NOTRE DAME! You dig, player? Even some of my own Wolverines say they'll beat Notre Dame. Lloyd Carr's not going anywhere but up."
* INTERVIEWER: "But what if you lose?"
"If we lose, then we just lose. At least we aren't 50-point underdogs every game. If we lose, we'll lose as a team. We'll bounce back as a team. Ann Arbor is behind us all, and we won't let them down. If we didn't, then we wouldn't be the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor."

Overall, I think Michigan will win. Michigan isn't Savannah State or Temple. They really need a win so they can have some positive momentum going. The good thing about this game- a winless team will get victory #1 on the year.

#8 Louisville at Kentucky

I know FoolKiller is going to like this one.

John is Louisville
INTERVIEWER: "You have not lost to Kentucky since 2002. Will your winning ways continue?"
"Sorry to take a page out of Marshall University, but We are Louisville. We are a winning school in the beautiful city of Louisville, Kentucky. Kentucky talks about how they can beat us in basketball. But hell, that's basketball. By the way, our women's basketball team is better than theirs. Any sport Kentucky is in, we want in. We want to make a statement in as many ways as possible. We still want to show good sportmanship, but we dare to be great. Maybe Kentucky should realize what our motto is. We dare to be great. And not only do we dare to be great... hell, we ARE great! See the number we did on Wake Forest in our BCS Bowl game last season? Did you see Murray State and Middle Tennessee State cry like babies when we ran up the score on them? Kentucky's just another cupcake to us. We play in a real conference- the Big East. All the SEC's got are Florida and LSU. We may lose to those two, but DEFINITELY not Kentucky. We'll prove it this weekend. Big Red will jump all over The Wildcat. Who the hell names their mascot that anyways? Not a very creative name. Again, Louisville remains unbeaten. I promise."

John is Kentucky
INTERVIEWER: You haven't beaten Louisville in about five years. Will the Kentucky Governors' Cup return to Kentucky this weekend?
Ahh, yes... Louisville. The guys who lovingly run up the score thinkin they are hard. No one needs to remind us that we aren't a football power. We have seven national championships in basketball compared to Louisville's 2. How can you call yourself the pride of the Bluegrass State when their team colors aren't blue? Blue is a beautiful color as you may know. It's the color of the sky, the color of looking out at oceans, the color of sapphires, and it's the color Louisville will be feeling when we beat them in our house. Commonwealth Stadium will see our 64,300 or so fans wave their blue and white all over the boys in red. Did we mention our blue is beautiful? Watch as our blue colors sparkle as the lights around Commonwealth Stadium sparkle brightly and mess up Louisville's play-calling. Our Wildcat mascot can beat Louisville. Heck, Scratch can beat them up! And who's Louisville talking about the Big East is better than the SEC? Just about every team in the SEC can be found in most of the major college sports. Look at the Big East. It's simply a weak conference in which people, trying to be hard, try to compete. Some teams in the Big East either don't have some teams in their conference or even don't have football teams. Look at Georgetown. Look at Notre Dame. Seton Hall. St. John's. Marquette. DePaul. Big East is for basketball. Meanwhile, we are the SEC. We play hard in all of our sports as soon as we come out on the sporting arena. Granted we aren't a national power in football, we aren't cupcakes. We got Andre Woodson under center against Brian Brohm. Louisville's going to find out that you can't simply run up the score all the time and expect to win. We can't let down Wildcat nation. And we won't. Wildcats upset the Cards. You can bank on that!

* I'd normally say that Louisville would win because of their depth from top to bottom. However, I have visions of Kentucky storming the field after breaking Louisville's hearts with an excellent late-game play.

-end "Role Play"

Chad Henne Out With a Knee Injury (2-3 Weeks)
People, the Wolverines will miss Chad Henne with a knee injury. He's out for two to three weeks. Ryan Mallett will start in his place. He is a freshman making his first start. I learned the reason why Henne is out thanks to ESPNEWS. Earlier, it wasn't confirmed what injury or whatever impacted Chad Henne. If Michigan beats Notre Dame and if Mallett has an impressive showing for as long as Henne is out with injury, then do you think he could win the starting job for Michigan? What if Mallett plays impressively, but in a losing effort? All I do know is that Joey D wants to see his Wolverines in the win column for once this season after days of media fodder about Michigan's slump this season.

I have no real extras to share at this time. I'll leave it here while you provide your comments.

You're right. I did like that.

Just to give you an idea of how this rivalry works, the University of Kentucky has paid for the below image to be plastered on 13 billboards in the city of Louisville, one across the street from Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. One of the Louisville players todl a reporter, "Losuivilel is Louisvilel and Lexington is Lexington." Apperently he forgot that Kentucky has more fans in Louisville than Louisville. Another player gave a read between the lines comment when he said of the signs, "They can stick their signs wherever they want."

The image in question (and new UK football motto- and new FoolKiller PC desktop):
believeinbluehn5.jpg

Oh... I see, FoolKiller. Spread Kentucky blue all over Louisville. That'll p*ss off some Cardinal lovers. Hope you'll be ready to take on Louisville when they spread their wings into Commonwealth Stadium.

ESPN Classic re-aired the Michigan vs. Appalachian State game Wednesday night. I had to see the closing moments since I was completely unable to see it on TV. I still can't get out of my mind the Appalachian State radio coverage. I'm going to tell you this. Michigan is a VERY talented team. They will likely make a Bowl Game. BCS Bowl hopes are out. They can still make a fairly good December Bowl game (remember the poorly-officiated match between them and Nebraska in the 2005(?) Mastercard Alamo Bowl?). They still have to win, and I think they will. I'll say this. Michigan's sorry if they lose to any of the weaker teams. The debut of the Big Ten Network... and the people who have the Big Ten network get to see one of the Big Ten's biggest teams go down... at home... to an FCS school. No matter how many times you see it, the image just gets tattoed in your mind.

I probably won't profile schools as much this season. I will try, though. So here are two I'd like to introduce you to. Both of these are non-football schools in Michigan. Watching the Big Ten Network, I thought about Detroit. I'll also tell you about Oakland. Take a look:

PROFILE SCHOOL: The University of Detroit
The official name is the University of Detroit-Mercy College. It is Michigan's largest Roman Catholic university. Detroit usually has a great basketball program. The Titans are the school's athletics nickname. You could say [the University of] Michigan is the pride of the Detroit area in terms of football. Ann Arbor isn't too far away from Detroit. Detroit-Mercy, however, is in downtown Detroit. The university is to the west of the northwestern end of Highland Park. This team plays in a conference full of colleges and universities in major midwestern cities. This conference is called the Horizon League. The Horizon League is not a football conference, though two schools have football programs (Butler and Youngstown State).

Other schools in the greater Detroit area and Detroit suburbs:
* Marygrove College (across the street westward of Detroit-Mercy)
* Wayne State University
* University of Michigan-Dearborn (no known athletics program, not even any junior varsity or even intramurals)
* Madonna University
* Lawrence Tech University
* St. Mary's College of Ave Maria University

Across the Detroit river, you get to see the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Some of you may remember last season or the season before in which I covered a Canadian college football game between (I believe) Windsor and Western Ontario.

PROFILE SCHOOL: Oakland University
Think again if you believe the Oakland is question is based in the Bay Area. The other OU of Division 1 sports is in a city called Rochester, MI. Oakland Univeristy is home to the Golden Grizzlies. You may remember in college basketball that Oakland was able to make the NCAA Tournament a few years ago with a losing record. They'd eventually lose to SWAC power, Alabama A&M. I don't believe Oakland University has a football program. They are part of the Summit League, formerly the Mid-Continent Conference. Two people attended, but didn't graduate. They include Barry Sanders and David Hasselhoff. Just today, I found out Oakland now plays in Division 1 of NCAA hockey. They were National Champions in 2004 and 2006 in Division 2. They are the ACHA Div. 1 National Champions for 2007. Use the Internet sometimes. You might learn something new.

I can tell you that Maryland will be in action as well as TCU. I'll have the scores when I have them ready. Thanks for reading. And in case you ask... thank you. I'm okay. Hurricane Humberto thankfully missed the Houston area.

College football's ready to go and waiting for you to get involved. Will you get involved and make my job easier? Or is this going to be a case where I just type up a bunch of stuff just to keep a thread from dying? So let's do this!

NOTE: Because I fell asleep when trying to do scores, I'll do most of these in RAPID FIRE.

--- Division 1: Bowl Subdivision Scores ---

A Rivalry Reborn as Maryland Looks to Black Out West Virginia's Fully-Juiced Team
* #4 West Virginia {Mountaineers} at Maryland {Terrapins} --- RIVALRY GAME ---
It may be wise to call this a week of non-conference (and some in-conference) rivalries. These two teams are ready to lock horns. Maryland's been foaming from the mouth in trying to get payback against the boys from Morgantown, WV. West Virginia's more concerned with playing for a National Championship and going through 12 or 13 other teams. Let's meet the boys. Maryland's calling for a blackout. The University of Maryland must have seen the WVU at Louisville game last year and thought it would be a great idea to take down West Virginia. The Terrapins want EVERYONE to fear the turtle. To do this against West Virginia, Maryland will need to scale some mountains. West Virginia wants nothing more than to win the National Championship with this team. They live in the city known as Morgantown, WV. These West Virginians are doing whatever it takes to play for the National Championship. They have two Heisman candidates in Steve Slaton and Pat White. The Mountaineers are ready to kick down the Terps and stomp down on them while on their backs. We're in College Park, MD. We got a bunch of Maryland fans in the house. Let's get it on. Can you believe Maryland would fumble the ball on the first play of the game, then have West Virginia lead with only 11:45 left in the FIRST QUARTER? In the end, West Virginia got it done and in a big way. (31-14; #4 West Virginia)

West Virginia needs not remember the last time someone tried to wear all black and screw up West Virginia. Study up, GTPlanet University faithful. It's Old School time!

OLD SCHOOL: #3 West Virginia at #5 Louisville (Class of 2006)
On November 3, 2006, Louisville called for an all-black affair to rub out West Virginia. The 'Ville was feeling it. They were ready to overrate the Mountaineers of West Virginia. Rather than their Cardinal Red and White, Louisville wanted to go black. It was a Black Thursday Louisville wanted to have against the Mountaineers. Louisville started out with a field goal. West Virginia would cash in a 42-yard touchdown run. It was 7-3 after one quarter. Louisville still couldn't find the end zone as Louisville got another field goal from Mr. Carmody. The half would end at about 16-14. Then Louisville got to pull away as it was 30-21 after three quarters of play. But in the final 15 minutes, Louisville wanted to black out West Virginia... and succeeded. Louisville's win put them atop the world for only seven days because Rutgers would beat Louisville at their home 28-25 the week after.

Texas Southern University Rant
Houston's only historically-black university has really been into trouble. The former TSU president, Priscilla Slade, took university funds to basically pamper herself and her house. Slade is still on trial for her actions. Recently, one of the men's dorms have bats in the dorm. Some students had brooms to basically swat them out of the air. A lot of bats were really starting to accumulate as they were being taken out. I've been to this university to attend an alternative high school at Texas Southern. I used to be a student of Houston's Milby High School before I been into some trouble. Suffice to say, Texas Southern needs help. And I'm not talking about their football team.

Do any of you have any (or go to) any universities that's been in the news a lot for reasons other than good? Want to make a little rant on them?

There will be action from every division except FCS for Friday. I'll have those scores for you when I have them done.

College Football Live talked about the Louisville/Kentucky. Here are my notes:

* 7:30 EDT on ESPN CLASSIC
* LOU won last four games
* hot Kentucky team
* ROBERT SMITH picks Louisville
* stays close; may come down to 4th Quarter

The ESPN College Gameday coverage had a question asking what team is on upset alert. Kirk Herbstreit said Louisville could be on upset alert. You know, before meeting FoolKiller, I could have thrashed Kentucky for all they're worth. However, this team is getting better. Best-case scenario (perhaps a long shot) would be that Kentucky wins the National Championship and show that Kentucky is more than a basketball school (especially to those who think of it as one). The match between Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson should be a great one. A baseball analogy would be that this game is Roger Clemens vs. John Smoltz.

I decided to do a little more role play. Why not take a look?

--- Role Playing ---

* Tennessee at Florida (RIVALRY: Third Saturday in September)

John is Tennessee
INTERVIEWER: "Looks like you'll be heading to Florida to match wits against the defending National Champions. Will you win?"
"We Volunteer to kick Florida's bums in Gainesville. California's overrated. We should have beaten them. But that's okay. We can still knock Florida out of the catbird seat. Mark May on ESPN called Tim Tebow as Superman? With Superman movie footage? Please. Tebow ain't s:censored:. We're not afraid of Florida. We'll be having ourselves a low-scoring game, but we return to Knoxville with a win. How you like that? And defending National Champs? We had guys like Ainge and Peyton Manning. We had our "Sugar Vols" that cleaned house in the 1991 Sugar Bowl. Florida's good, but we're better. We'll prove it this Saturday."

John is Florida
INTERVIEWER: "You're the defending National Champions. Will you take down Tennessee?"
"We're alike. Nobody wants to play against us at our own stadiums. Neyland Stadium is tough to play at. So is The Swamp. Tennessee is playing at OUR house! You won't get to see Swamp Thing in our stadium, but we will have some Gators that are ready to have our Vitamin C by knocking the orange off of Tennessee. We'll take on any team, even those dopes known as Ohio State. We'll beat Michigan easily. But Tennessee? Please. Bring it on, boys! We're ready."

MY PREDICTIONS: Could be a low-scoring game. I don't know too much about Tennessee's talent level to convince me that they can beat Florida. I usually pick Tennessee all the time in this match. However, Florida may get it done this time around.

* #? Ohio State at Washington
I'm devoting this one to kylehnat.

John is Ohio State
INTERVIEWER: You will head into Seattle looking to stop the momentum of the University of Washington. Will you stop their momentum?"
"We're not Ohio State. We are THE Ohio State University. This is the team high schoolers want to go to before making noise in the NFL."
INTERVIEWER: If you're Ohio State, what are you doing with an Appalachian State cap on your head?
"Um... that's just to make fun of Michigan. Yeah. We hope Notre Dame makes Michigan 0-2 so that they'll be facing us and crying out of their eyes. But back to Washington. The Huskies are overrated pieces of crap. We know Jake Locker's good. However, we're great. We're not Michigan. The only Pac-10 team we'd lose to is maybe U. of SoCal Trojans. But, we'll make the most of 60 minutes and eviscerate Washington."

John is Washington
INTERVIEWER: "We've been enjoying your process. Ohio State's coming to Seattle. What kind of message will you send them?"
"It's beautiful here in Seattle, isn't it?"
INTERVIEWER: "Yes. Great city."
"Jake Locker has helped increase our morale. We feel we can take on almost any team that comes our way. If Oregon can beat Michigan at a Big Ten school, we can hopefully beat a Big Ten team at a Pac-10 stadium. We are the pride of Seattle. Maybe even the pride of Washington. Don't let those non-football schools like Gonzaga, Seattle University, or even Seattle Pacific University tell you otherwise. Buckeyes are the state trees of Ohio. We're the Washington Huskies. Huskies pee around trees. And we'll upset them as best as we can."

Now that I've done some more role playing, let's get to business.

--- Division 1: Bowl Subdivision Scores ---

Meet the Other Men of Troy
* Oklahoma State {Cowboys} at Troy {Trojans}
This match was on ESPN2. We got Oklahoma State of the Big XII and Troy of the Sun Belt. We are not in Los Angeles, but we're in Troy, Alabama. Let's meet Oklahoma State. The Stillwater boys are venturing out to command and conquer. The chances they'll succeed will rely on how well they can do against Troy. Oklahoma State has a lovely stadium as well as a beautiful basketball arena. The Cowboys are ready to ride on their horses and lasso a win against some mangy outlaws in Alabama. Troy is next. Troy, Alabama seems to be "strategically" located about 40 to 50 miles south southeast of Montgomery, AL and 40-50 miles northwest of Dothan, AL. It is only one of two Sun Belt teams in the state of Alabama. Troy is the only Sun Belt football school in the state of Alabama (South Alabama is the other). The Trojans may not be the ones from L.A., but they can take down any team that comes their way. They upset a ranked Missouri team a few years ago in Troy. I think it was about 23-3 in favor of Troy at one point. There may have been a delay for torrential rain, but like rain, Oklahoma State's eyes were raining tears as they failed to foil Troy. This is disappointing on a number of levels. Maybe Big XII teams trying to schedule Troy may need to play against Troy at home because if they hit the road, they fall. Just ask Missouri and now Oklahoma State. (41-23; TROY) *** disappointing loss ***

I'll have as many matches as I can put out. We got Louisville at Kentucky, Tennessee at Florida, USCal at Nebraska, Ohio State at Washington, and what's being called the most important match between winless teams- Notre Dame at Michigan. You people don't be afraid to post replies to this thread. Enjoy Saturday's games.

Hi, everyone! This is Week 3 of college football. My GAME OF THE WEEK is one of the weirdest ones I noted as GAME OF THE WEEK. Get ready for a pretty wacky Saturday. But first, synopsis time.

SATURDAY SYNOPSIS: Week 3
A majority of major FBS teams took on either cupcakes in Division 1 FBS or some FCS schools. While one Pac-10 school didn't fare too well against a Big Ten team, a Mountain West team pulled off a HUGE dupe over a ranked Pac-10 team. A handful of upsets happened in states like Kentucky, Alabama, and even Illinois. One FCS match ended up in a HUGE beat down as a potent Kentucky school in FCS got themselves a HUGE win. HUGE win surely described two matches in Division 3 as two Top 10 school tasted defeat on the road. A few Division 2 schools ate dust in their matches. Get ready for a number of upsets.

--- All-Kentucky Pack ---
I have two games to treat my buddy FoolKiller with. We got what I call the Kentucky State Championship as well as a former FCS rivalry. Love the state of Kentucky?

It's the Kentucky State Championship! Dare to be Great, or Dream - Challenge - Succeed?
* #9 Louisville at Kentucky --- RIVALRY GAME: Battle of the Bluegrass (for the Governor's Cup)
This is why my friend FoolKiller comes out to read my threads. This game was the making of over 300-something days. Now it's here. Now it's time for Kentucky to show what they're made of. It's time they really show that Kentucky is more than a basketball school. This rivalry is more intense in hoops, but anytime these two meet, it's going to be one hell of a fight. Louisville and Kentucky absolutely DO NOT like each other. You don't even need to read FoolKiller's comments to know that. Doesn't matter what sport it is. It can be football, basketball, baseball, track and field, Formula SAE, sleeping, flirting with girls... the two just hate each other so much. Throw out the record books here. Let's meet the 'Ville first. "You think you hard?" That's what C.J., protagonist of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," would say about Kentucky taking them on. Louisville's been hard since their football team's been on fire. Call the Louisville Fire Department because Louisville knows how to burn up the field and the score. The Cardinals understand that Lexington hates cardinals. They hate the birds from Louisville. Now let's meet Kentucky. Believe in blue! Lexington, KY is not very far from the state capital of Frankfort. Lexington is in no way a major city like Louisville or Cincinatti or anything. However, this is a city that loves cats. You could gaze at the fountains around Triangle Park. You can feel absolutely connected to the history and prestige of Rupp Arena and their seven-time men's basketball champs. Kentucky is not a football power, but they still know that they are in charge of their destiny. Here's Kentucky: know your opposition, take them on, and take them down. That's the Wildcats' way. This is ESPN Classic playing this game. So let's see who wins this game. I'll try to focus in as much on the Kentucky players during my report. Eric Collins and Bill Curry had the call for ESPN Classic.

The skies were beautifully clear at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington. It's the 20th meeting of Kentucky and Louisville. (FIRST HALF) FoolKiller's boys led by 3 early. Then look at #3 Andre' Woodson make some magic happen in the passing game as they led Louisville 10-0. Woodson stumbled in the passing game a bit. Rafael Little has over 2,000 rushing yards and 1,000 passing yards. He's the 4th-ever SEC guy to get this in his career. Perhaps Little is the football equivalent of Rajon Rondo or Randolph Morris. The booing rained down as Louisville cashed in a short touchdown. But would it count? Yes. The clock was three 1's as Kentucky still led 13-7 in the first quarter. The U. of L getting it done like it ain't nothing. Would the U. of K keep the momentum going? They did as the first quarter came to an end. I found out that Commonwealth . With 12:37 left in the 1st Half, Rafael Little is proving to be even more of a field general as Andre' Woodson. Extra point was missed as Kentucky now led 19-7. New Kentucky men's hoops coach, Billy Gillespie (formerly of Texas A&M), was in the house at Commonwealth Stadium and was in the announce position. Hope the Texas boy can coach the flagship university of Kentucky to great success. Louisville got a touchdown and converted the extra point past 7:16 left in the First Half. So Kentucky still leads 19-14. Kentucky's led all game long at this point. UK turned over on downs after failing to clear an option play as one dude just got WHACKED HARD for the 'Cats. At 1:02 left in the half, Louisville takes the lead on a touchdown as Kentucky's defensive coverage broke down. Kentucky's cheerleaders are cute. Must be the influence of Ashley Judd graduating from UK. So Louisville leads 21-19 with 1:02 left in the first half. Kentucky finished the first half strong, but Louisville led 21-19 after 30 minutes. Ernie Fletcher, governor of Kentucky, was a Kentucky student of over 11 years. Seems a little more damning to Louisville that they are playing (SECOND HALF)Andre' Woodson been connecting a number of passes without being picked off. Woodson did much more- he capped off an incredible opening drive to start the third quarter. The 6+1 got Kentucky 26-21 with 9:46 left in the quarter. It may be party time in Lexington if Kentucky can pull away. I completely missed Louisville's respons since they ran back the ball back for a coast-to-coast touchdown. The Louisville guy iced Kentucky's good momentum with an amazing run. Almost like Louisville ran from Washington, D.C. to Anchorage, Alaska all over Kentucky's special teams defense. Kentucky's happiness lasted only so long. Carmody wanted to pull away by 5 with a 52-yd field goal... but it wasn't long enough. So Kentucky has a chance to take the lead. Kentucky's never beaten a Top 10 team since 1977 when they beat #1 Penn State. Louisville led 28-26 after three quarters of play. How do you start the 4th? With a beautiful Andre' Woodson strike to the endzone, of course. 6+1 makes it 33-28 as Kentucky looks to shock Louisville and cover Louisville in Wildcat blue. Kentucky leveled a guy out of bounds on a 2nd and 10 with about 12:20 left in the game. With about 9:34 left, Louisville had a sneak-in touchdown... until they get called for an illegal formation. Erase the TD. Now Louisville wants to try the 4th Down call again. Kentucky turned them over on downs with about 9:27 left in the game. Kentucky stood tall and denied Louisville a seemingly easy six. Don't forget the penalty. Now it's clock time. It's go time, Kentucky! Louisville's been driving down the field when they got the ball back. Louisville retook the lead with 1:45 left in the game. They wanted a two-point conversion to make Kentucky have to kick a field goal to tie, but failed. Kentucky just needs to drive down the field effectively to win the game. So we're 34-33 with 1:45 left and Louisville leading. Both teams are unbeaten. Something has to give. Eric Scott retaliated and got himself a flag and really hurt Kentucky with a 15-yard Personal Foul penalty. With 27-seconds left, Woodson cashed in a beautiful pass to a wide-open WR to make it 39-34 in STUNNING fashion! They go for an extra point and make it 40-34. Lexington is absolutely JACKED! Andre' Woodson was shaken, but not stirred. Neither was his wide-out. No wonder this game was on ESPN Classic! Louisville with no timeouts left while Kentucky has one. Smart call by Kentucky? Let's see if this "gamble" paid off. At the 43-yard line of Kentucky, there are only 5 seconds left as the WR went out of bounds. End result? Bring down the goal posts! Kentucky are no longer Louisville's b:censored:. You loving life, FoolKiller? Kentucky remains unbeaten as they flushed Louisville's National Title hopes down the toilet. (40-34; KENTUCKY) *** upset nominee ***

SIDE NOTE: Kentucky Notebook
Here's a closer look at Kentucky from what I've seen in the ESPN Classic coverage. Andre' Woodson seems to know how to deliver the football with confidence. With 5:55 left in the first quarter, #27 basically SNOW PLOWED the Louisville kick returner! I thought that was a fun play. It looked like Kentucky's passing coverage was on point for a lot of the game. I noted some hard-hitting defense by Kentucky. They'll play fair, but they're flailing against Louisvile. Some spunky little spitfires wearing Kentucky blue. Andre' Woodson is competing against Tim Couch and Jared Lorenzen for most all-time passing yards at Kentucky. Woodson looks to be a fairly good prospect in the NFL if drafted. Kentucky still has some composure issues. They still have to keep themselves composed and conduct themselves better on the football field.

Battle of the Bluegrass... Mid-Major Style
* Eastern Kentucky {Colonels} at Western Kentucky {Hilltoppers} --- RIVALRY GAME ---
Richmond, KY's Eastern Kentucky Colonels had a tough time in Bowling Green, KY. The Hilltoppers of WKU improve to 2-1 by beating an old foe. (26-6; WESTERN KENTUCKY)

-end "All-Kentucky Pack"

All this rivalry talk has me a bit dizzy. So let's cool things off with a little extra.

EXTRA: Collegiate Architecture
I am a student of Houston Community College's Southeast Campus. It is in no way anything special in terms of serious architecture. One of my most-loved aspects about colleges and universities is architecture. Location obviously matters as much as anything, but don't you just feel good inside to be around a university or college that is absolutely beautiful to be on and go around? Universities like Villanova, the University of the Pacific, the University of San Francisco, and even Duke are schools with some amazing architecture. Some schools look truly amazing in pictures. The University of Houston is nowhere in the league of most multi-million and multi-billion dollar universities in architecture and design, but their architecture program is one of the few to win architecture competitions multiple times. I'd like for some of you to let me in on what some of the most amazing architecture at a college or university is like. It can be a footbal school or a non-football school. Anyone want to share schools that have amazing architecture?

Now back to action.

Third Saturday in September Means it's Time for a Beatdown
* #22 Tennessee {Volunteers} at #5 Florida {Gators}
It's the debut of SEC football on CBS for 2007. Verne Lundquist and Daniel ??? had the call as Tennessee and Florida spew their hate in The Swamp. I heard most of this game on the radio. It was a high-scoring game... only for Florida and their Gators The Volunteers didn't stand a chance in The Swamp. (59-20; #5 FLORIDA)

Nick Saban's Big Test
* #16 Arkansas {Razorbacks} at Alabama {Crimson Tide}
Nick Saban passed his first big test as the Crimson Tide washed away the Arkansas Razorbacks. (41-38; ALABAMA)

Some of the FBS vs. FCS teams don't really amount to much fun. So I'll breeze through some of these.

--- FCS at FBS Pack ---
* The Citadel at #7 Wisconsin (45-31; #7 WISCONSIN)
* Western Carolina at #23 Georgia (45-16; #23 GEORGIA)
* Jacksonville State at Memphis (35-14; MEMPHIS) <<< features first woman official in an FBS game, Sarah Thomas of MI.

* Nicholls State at Nevada (52-17; NEVADA) <<< can you believe Nevada is 0-2 heading into this game?
* New Hampshire at Marshall (48-35; New Hampshire) *** disappointing loss ***

Utah Can Do Well Even Without Urban Meyer
* #11 UCLA {Bruins} at Utah {Utes}
This is completely sad. The Utah Utes did the truly unthinkable. No, not just beat UCLA, but pound the Bruins and deny them the chance to just beat down Utah to kingdom come. (44-6; UTAH) *** upset and disappointing loss ***

The Purple and White Meet Some Terrible Footballers Who Wear Blue
* Duke {Blue Devils} at Northwestern {Wildcats}
Duke stinks. Duke's a cupcake. They went winless last year. Can you believe DUKE is up 20-7 heading into the 4th Quarter? Northwestern getting their asses handed to by one of the most pathetic football teams in all of FBS. The theme for this Saturday was "something's gotta give. Well, what was given was a Blue Devil shock job of the Northwestern Wildcats. Be sure to watch "Pardon the Interruption" Monday to see how Michael Wilbon responds to his Wildcats going down... to DUKE of all teams! (20-14; Duke) *** biggest win and most disappointing loss ***

A Former SEC Team Meets a Truly Competent Houston Squad
* Houston {Cougars} at Tulane {Green Wave}
The Houston Cougars made lime Jell-o out of the Tulane Green Wave. (34-10; Houston)

Iowa and Iowa State Play the Most Important Game in the Hawkeye State
* Iowa {Hawkeyes} at Iowa State {Cyclones}
"Either you like Iowa, or you're an idiot." Well, the Hawkeyes were definitely stunned that they lost to their hated rivals in Ames. The Iowa State Cyclones

Other FBS Scores
* Texas at UCF (35-32; #6 Texas)
* #16 Arkansas at Alabama (41-38; ALABAMA) *** upset nominee ***

--- John's Winners and Losers ---

Biggest Win(s) of the Week
Michigan Has a 1-Game Winning Streak!
- Michigan and Notre Dame started slow this season. You have to feel for Lloyd Carr. The X-Factor was the inexperience of the two young quarterbacks that played for the respective teams. Michigan gets the win for this honor because they played at the Big House and shown that Michigan football isn't dead.

Most Disapppointing Loss(es) of the Week
(tie) Northwestern Can't Even Beat Duke at Home
and Unranked Utah Overrated #11 UCLA - Duke snaps its 22-or so game losing streak in Evanston, IL. Too bad I'll be at school when Tony Kornheiser of PTI slams Michael Wilbon on Wilbon's Wildcats losing to Duke of all teams. This was sad on a number of levels. Also sad was UCLA losing on the road at Utah. The Bruins were #11 until they got their asses handed to by the Utah Utes. Even worse, they couldn't find the end zone. I wanted to give it just to UCLA, but I HAD to include Duke as well.

Upset(s) of the Week (if any)
(tie) Two Road Stunners: Kentucky Shows Louisville Who the Real Kings of the Bluegrass State Are
and Wisconsin-Whitewater Stunned on the Road at St. Cloud State - I gave this one a tie because the Louisville/Kentucky match was fun and close. It would have been the undisputed upset of the week if Louisville was much higher in the ranks. So I split the decision between Kentucky and St. Cloud State. The Warhawks of Wisconsin-Whitewater tasted defeat in a terrible way against the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Ownage(s) of the Week
Southeastern Louisiana has Kentucky Wesleyan for a 79-7 All-You-Can-Beat Buffet
- The Lions of Hammond, LA's Southeastern Louisiana University have to be ecstatic in knocking off Division 2's Kentucky Wesleyan College. So here we go:

Kentucky Wesleyan College = OWNED by Southeastern Louisina 79-7!

I'll release Week 4 when it's ready. Week 4 will be known as "Prelude to Fall/Autumn." I'll use "Fall" as part of the title as Summer melts away as Fall takes form. Getting into real football weather soon.

Wow either Norte Dame is really really bad this year or Michigan finally found it's way. I guess next week against Penn State will say for sure.

Ownage indeed.

Btw, why didn't I see anything about LSU? Probably need to read a little more closely. In any case though, I wouldn't be suprised to see LSU take the #1 spot from USC eventually. 👍

This is why my friend FoolKiller comes out to read my threads.
Guilty. It's been a long time since I cared about college football.

Now let's meet Kentucky. Believe in blue!
Funny thing. I posted about the Believe in Blue campaign earlier, as 13 billboards were put up in Louisville. Season tickets sold 20,000 more this year than last year and half of those are estimated to have come from Louisville, where the largest chapter of the UK Alumni Association resides. Whether it was a ploy just to nag at Louisville or not, it worked on a financial front.

New Kentucky men's hoops coach, Billy Gillespie (formerly of Texas A&M), was in the house at Commonwealth Stadium and was in the announce position. Hope the Texas boy can coach the flagship university of Kentucky to great success.
I was well into inebriation at this point and during this interviw I kept saying, "Shouldn't he be on the field coaching?" Fortunately, I was the most sober of the guys present, so no one who knew better noticed.

Kentucky's cheerleaders are cute.
Tell me about it. Classes were very distracting when eth athletics department suggested the athletes all take communications classes if they didn't have any other preference. So, half of my telecommunications majors found me stuck in classes with the likes of dance team members and cheerleaders.

Bring down the goal posts! Kentucky are no longer Louisville's b:censored:. You loving life, FoolKiller? Kentucky remains unbeaten as they flushed Louisville's National Title hopes down the toilet. (40-34; KENTUCKY) *** upset nominee ***
I Believe in Blue! The UK Athletics site has the video of that final TD with the opening sequence saying, "I Believe in Last Minute TDs." What made this truly great is that I sat at a friend's house, the lone UK fan (unless you count my non-footbal watching wife) in the room cheering with joy as that TD was made. Everyone else had some sort of curses flying from their mouths. I stood alone as I toasted a UK victory and mentioned Louisvilles chances at a championship flying in a blue streak towards "ANOTHER UK TOUCHDOWN!!!!"

I have to admit to being slightly embarrased by our fans in attendance at teh game. Louisville's announcer was not inside a booth, but just a covered area. Fans in front of him were calling him MF and various other names. Then after the game the fans rushed teh field, causing many thinsg to happen. First, the SEC has fined UK for this. Second, multiple fans were arrested for taunting UL players. Because taunting a 300 lb man wearing body armor is smart. Finally, and the most upsetting of all, is when the fans began surging forward the 14 year old son of radio announcer Tom Leach, "voice of the Wildcats," was shoved forward and over the 10 foot wall to break his arm in two places and receive a thigh contusion. He is a freshman for Henry Clay high football team and will now miss the rest of this season. I'm not upset because this is the son of a current UK icon, but that I doubt this was the only injury. This just happens to be the one to gain media attention.

It is one thing to be a big fan, get loud, cheer your team, boo the other team, and even give a BS chant for a bad call. It is quite another to try to disrupt the othe team's radio announcer, physically threaten/attack players on the other team, and to forego all sense in your celebrations to the point of injuring children. This kind of behavior (and the triple digit ticket prices) is why I do not go to these huge rivalry games. The fans forget to act sensible. I get enough stuff spilled on me during boring games. Some days it is hard to be proud to be a UK fan.

Imagine what would happen if Commonwealth served alcohol...

Oh, and did I mention that there was almost a street fight at my friend's house as his two neighbors bgan yelling at each other? You could hear cheers going up from houses all over during the game, but someone finally go tired of it and told the other to shut up loud enough to be heard. Most of the third and fourth quarters were watched with "Come on boy!" being yelled over and over up and down the street, as well as a few other choice sayings that can't be uttered here. Let's just say that one of the people involved is a convicted pedophile and he was told to go do a few things he might enjoy.

I love football, basketball, and Kentucky, but do we have to act like this?
