I love chatting college football on GTPlanet with you lovely people. However, most of the teams that play today will have no love lost for one another. In fact, most teams will engage in rivalry matches. The big one is Michigan and Ohio State. But because of Michigan's performance this season, it's not really clear if this rivalry means too much as far as interest and intrigue. Tennessee and Vanderbilt meet Saturday for state pride. So too does North Carolina and North Carolina State. Rivalries are why you play college sports. You play because you want to send a message to that other team and make them look stupid. Bringing together two teams that can't get along can form somewhat an unholy alliance. Some teams have rivalry games while most other teams just continue their season against anybody.

Schedule:
FBS: Tuesday-Saturday
FCS: Thursday and Saturday
D2: Saturday <<< season ending soon!
D3: Saturday <<< season ending soon!

No action for today. Either no college football, or you're probably watching college basketball.

NFL Focus
The college boys were nowhere to be seen, so let's see how the pros did. Today's collegiate stars could make some waves in the NFL for those eligible to join the draft. Just some quick scores from a certain select games.

* Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts (33-27; INDIANAPOLIS COLTS) <<< Texans NEVER Won in Indy in Team History
* Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons (24-20; Denver Broncos)
* St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers (35-16; SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS)
* Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (24-14; Tennessee Titans)
* Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks (26-20; Arizona Cardinals)
* Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins (14-10; Dallas Cowboys)
* Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals (13-13) *** draw ***
* Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers (31-22; CAROLINA PANTHERS) <<< Detroit now 0-10; yet my Texans are always seen as the most pathetic. There's teams much worse than us. Damn it, get off our asses about us being terrible!!!

No action until Tuesday. I had fun last weekend in 60-degree Houston weather this past weekend. Personally can't wait for Thanksgiving. Football, food, and fun. Then I have to get ready for Black Friday shopping... and more football. You never stop being a college football fan! Thanks for checking out this report. The new week is here.

On this day last year, I was trying to balance covering college football... while also being a groomsman for my brother's wedding. Michigan and Ohio State played that day last year as well as countless other rivalries. A number of rivalries will take place.

In fact, here's last year's thread on this very weekend:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=99851

In this Extra, I figured I'll share something with you all. It's recommended you have Broadband because it's a YouTube video, but it's essentially a look at black college football explained by me. Here is the video for your viewing pleasure:

(almost six minutes long - broadband recommended)
"The Black College Football Experience Explained"

I may have some other stuff to get to in another Extra. For now, that's all from me. Take care!

Tonight's match involves Northern Illinois at lowly Kent State. I will offer my score report of this game followed by perhaps a look at the Saturday rivalries.

And in case you haven't noticed, I modified my previous post to include the video I wanted to share with you. I completely forgot to show the video itself. Anyhow, please have a lovely day and be sure to come back to this thread for any sort of gibberish I have to offer for you.

I've been concerned today because I learned my blood pressure is 86. Not sure if this is going to lead to anything terrible for me or not, but I have some fears. If anything is an escape from whatever issues I may have, it's delivering college football scores to you all. So let's go.

Division 1: FBS Scores
Did you even know a football game was on? You probably didn't because everyone's been all excited about the new season of college basketball. So here's your result from the only game from this day.

Kent, Ohio - Golden Flashes Try to Take Down the Red Hot Huskies
* Northern Illinois {Huskies} at Kent State {Golden Flashes}
The NIU Huskies weren't afraid of any Golden Flashes as they took them down hard. (42-14; Northern Illinois)

Division 1: FCS Starts Thursday
Schedule: Thursday and Saturday

Division 2 Starts Saturday

Division 3 Starts Saturday

John's Student Lounge
I normally reserve this to share some off-topic material. Well this time, I want to focus on some of Saturday's matches. I've called #2 Texas Tech at #5 Oklahoma to be my GAME OF THE WEEK for this week. Serious Big XII South (and maybe BCS) implications in this one. Texas Tech stunned Oklahoma last year on that Saturday that I had to be a groomsman at my brother's wedding.

Now here are some of the games coming up later this week and my ideas:

* Michigan at #10 Ohio State
It's going to be unlikely they will do so, but I want Michigan to win this game as a feel-good story. Michigan isn't going to anybody's postseason, but they will have a chance to play spoiler. Wouldn't it be a great win to beat up Ohio State at the Horseshoe? I know it isn't going to happen very likely, but I want this to be a feel-good story. Someone on ESPN's "College Football Live" joked that Michigan shouldn't be playing at Ohio State because "you have to go through Toledo to get to Ohio State." I'm sure GTP's Michigan fan, Joey D is sick of all the rants against Michigan for this season's performance. I knew I stopped making Michigan picks long ago, but I want this to be a feel-good story for Michigan to work on next season while also knocking Ohio State out of a possible BCS Bowl bid.

* North Carolina State at #25 North Carolina
I got the Tar Heels in this match, but I wouldn't be surprised if NC State takes them into Overtime or a low margin of victory. North Carolina has never looked better. Well, maybe not THAT good, but at least they aren't... the other ACC North Carolina team (hint: Coach K).

* Tennessee at Vanderbilt
"Who cares?" Some would say that since both teams (especically Tennessee) have been exceptional disappointments. Both have nothing to lose. Tennessee's season has ended long ago. Vanderbilt will make a Bowl game for the first time since 1984. If you think both teams are true disappointments, then maybe this game will determine who isn't as big of a disappointment as the other.

* Washington at Washington State
Something tells me that Washington is going to lose this game, maybe a bad loss. The Huskies have been pathetic all year round. Even without that controversial game against BYU, they'd have one win- which would be the same number of wins Washington State has. The bigger disappointment will be shown in this one. I want it to be Washington who wins because I want Tyrone Willingham to have SOMETHING to be happy about on the road to leaving Washington.

* #17 Michigan State at #7 Penn State
Michigan's season is over. Michigan State's season is still alive and kicking. They have only two losses and don't want a third, especially to their rivals at Penn State. It's one of the youngest rivalries as this deal started in 1993 for the Land Grant Trophy. I'm thinking Penn State will win at home. Just a guess, no real analysis.

* UTEP at Houston
If UTEP beats Houston, then the Miners will be Bowl Eligible sitting at 5-5. If they fail to beat Houston, they'll need to beat East Carolina on the road (not easy) to be Bowl Eligible. Houston is already Bowl Eligible at 6-4 despite a horrible start. The Cougars have a chance to win this game. They shouldn't look ahead to Rice next weekend. Houston put up 70 on Tulsa while Tulsa had 30 points. This game will likely be an offensive shootout (because that's how the Coogs like it). I got Houston, but this could really go either way offensively. I'd be surprised if neither team scores at least 28 points.

* Illinois at Northwestern
The Wildcats of Northwestern have done very well this season. I'd go with the Wildcats, but look out for Illinois and their offensive attack. They may claw into Northwestern and try to make a real game of this. Should be fun for these two Big Ten schools.

* Stanford at California
This is some Bay Area football here. I got California in this match. One more win by Stanford makes them Bowl Eligible sitting at 5-6. So you can say this is a must-win for Stanford to reach the postseason. Having to do this on the road at the University of California will be pretty rough. They may need the Stanford band to intervene to have a chance.

* #16 BYU at #8 Utah
The Holy War will take place between BYU and Utah. This match in Salt Lake City will be a crucial one, especially to Utah. They are #8 at 11-0. They are seeking their second BCS Bowl bid in school history. This win will determine whether they got into Bowl season unbeaten or with one loss.

Those were only a few rivalries I wanted to get to. Check in Wednesday for results of a crucial match- #14 Ball State at Central Michigan. Can the Cardinals trump the unbeaten (in conference) Chippewas? Find out in my next full report!

Tonight's match is critical in the MAC. It's unbeaten Ball State playing at Central Michigan. I'll have these results when my full report is complete.

I learned there was a such school as Talladega College. They don't have a football program, but they are one of the many HBCUs in America. On top of this, I learned a little more about the University of the Virgin Islands, which hosts the Paradise Jam tour in hoops. You came here for college football, though. Why don't I make this worth your while?

Among some of the different birthdays today, happy 50th birthday to PTI's Michael Wilbon! I think Ted Turner has a birthday today as well as many others.

Division 1: FBS Scores

Mount Pleasant, Michigan - Chippewas Face Their Biggest Game of the Season
* #17 Ball State {Cardinals} at Central Michigan {Chippewas}
Mount Pleasant will be anything but pleasant if the Ball State Cardinals get knocked off by CMU. The Chippewas are ready to chip into Ball State to upset them. Ball State's amazing season continues as they topped Central Michigan and likely has inside track on the MAC West. (31-24; #17 Ball State)

Division 1: FCS Starts Thursday
Schedule: Thursday and Saturday

Division 2 Starts Saturday

Division 3 Starts Saturday

The big match for Thursday is #25 Miami's visit to Georgia Tech. Feel free to check in to talk about Saturday's matches as well as the results of Thursday's games. Take care, everyone!

Today is the tenth birthday of the International Space Station (ISS). What would you give it for its birthday? I wonder what watching a good college football game is like in space. While I figure that out, I got scores! Yeah. A few scores from games around the nation. Really, just two scores. You want 'em? I got 'em! Step on up and get your scores.

Division 1: FBS Scores
I was mostly watching "Ugly Betty" while flipping over to the ESPN game every now and then.

Atlanta, Georgia - The ATL Welcomes MIA Where One Team Will be SOL
* #23 Miami {Hurricanes} at Georgia Tech {Yellow Jackets}
Atlanta, Georgia. Home to the Falcons, Hawks, Braves, and Thrashers among other teams. It's home to schools like the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University, and more. It's also home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. GT is easily the best sports school in Atlanta. And they'll meet the best team from Miami (unless you're a Florida International fan). The Miami Hurricanes are told to be doing much better. Hopefully, they can escape Atlanta with a victory. Hope all you want... it didn't happen. Georgia Tech was just slapping around Miami like they were Florida International. The 'Canes NEVER led at all. (41-23; GEORGIA TECH)

DID YOU KNOW...
...that Miami is 13-2 all-time on Thursday night ESPN games, even with this loss?

Division 1: FCS Scores

Houston, Texas - Tiger Bowl! A SWAC West Shootout
* Grambling State {Tigers} at Texas Southern {Tigers}
Texas Southern tries to play spoiler. This is the first time I've seen the Tigers' home field, Delmar Stadium. Also the first time I've seen them at their home field on ESPNU. I always thought Texas Southern played at Robertson Stadium, but they don't. Both teams are known as the Tigers. Grambling State roared louder, prouder, and more boastfully than Texas Southern ever did. They won the first quarter, but lost the remaining three. (33-7; Grambling State)

Division 2 Starts Saturday

Division 3 Starts Saturday

That's all for this report. Thank you for watching. Two MAC matches and one WAC matches will take place Friday night. You got Buffalo (studentdriver country) at Bowling Green State, Miami University at lowly Toledo (despite Toledo's win at Michigan), and because most feel California is better than the other 49 states- Fresno State at San Jose State. I'll have these results for you whether you like Midwestern football or West Coast football. Take care!

The ESPN match tonight is Fresno State at San Jose State. It will be on ESPN2 after some college basketball action at Madison Square Garden wraps up.

An advantage to having this broadband deal is to chime in whenever I like. I need to update this post before I even fathom doing the Saturday scores. I haven't done the Friday scores. So allow me to share quick highlights.

Division 1: FBS Scores
--- Quick Results ---

San Jose, California - The Best Spartans of the West Meet Some Ferocious Bulldogs
* Fresno State {Bulldogs} at San Jose State {Spartans} (24-10; Fresno State)

Toledo, Ohio - Rockets 'n 'Hawks... Not an NBA Blowout Anymore
* Miami University {Redhawks} at Toledo {Rockets} (42-10; TOLEDO)

Bowling Green, Ohio - Falcons Need One More Win to be Bowl Eligible
* Buffalo {Bulls} at Bowling Green State {Falcons} (40-34, OT; Buffalo) <<< BUFF = 7-4; BGSU = 5-6

Division 1: FCS Resumes Saturday

Division 2 Starts Saturday

Division 3 Starts Saturday

* Washington STILL Winless
* Wisconsin Struggles Against a California Team, Wins in Overtime

Tide -vs- Sooners , BCS National champioship game ? (keeping Florida in the back of my mind though)

Techs cheerleaders & mascot would have made a better showing than they did.

Oklahoma, was possessed , there looking at National championship.

Give coach Rodriguez a few years , he can very possibly turn the big ten upside down when he gets all his key players to run a spread offense.Something the OSU Bucks know all about (not !!!), they can't beat the spread offense.This is something the teams in the big 10 needs to address.

Congrats go out to Joe Paterno , well done , good luck in Pasadena

Many teams' seasons will end this weekend. It will be sad as college football is coming to a close. You know, you prepare since August, and time seems to pass by so quickly with game after game. Some of you who are fans of teams that won't finish with a winning record may have already looked to college basketball or some other sports. Time to see some of these teams put together their final regular season drives.

NOTE: Connecticut at South Florida will be covered in next week's thread since it's played on Sunday. I go by calendar weeks and not sports weeks.

Division 1: FBS Scores
Alright! Let's get started in Oklahoma and move on out.

Norman, Oklahoma - A Lot Riding on the BCS Picture in This Match
* #2 Texas Tech {Red Raiders} at #5 Oklahoma {Sooners} --- GAME OF THE WEEK ---
Brent Musburger would welcome you to Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. Kirk Herbstreit gave you his Keys to the Game. Lee Corso wore Oklahoma as his creative way of picking one team over another. He was also pretty trigger happy with those shotguns of OU... but the same could be said for the offenses of both of these teams. Get ready for Sooners trying to dash Texas Tech's hopes, while the the Red Raiders solidify their ticket to Kansas City to play for the Big XII Championship. It was 42-7, Oklahoma at halftime. By this time, I already changed the channel and played "Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli" on my PS2 because this would have been a much better game if the Texas Tech offense shown up and did some damage rather than fall on their faces on the road. (65-21; #5 OKLAHOMA)

Let's go to the big one and move on out.

Columbus, Ohio - Buckeyes Eye Pasadena on New Year's Day 2009, But Blue and Maize Fill Their Eyesights
* Michigan {Wolverines} at #10 Ohio State {Buckeyes}
This is the biggest rivalry game in all of sports. It's even bigger than Duke vs. North Carolina in men's basketball. Unfortunately, I can't find many ways to cheer up my GTPlanet and Facebook friend, Joey D. His Wolverines have had a rough season trying to get acclimated to the Spread Offense as well as getting adjusted to Rich Rodriguez. This hasn't been their year, but all you can do if you're a bad team is take out your woes and give them to the other team. Michigan scored only one touchdown... which would also be their final touchdown of the 2008 season. They let one get away when it was 14-7 at the half. (42-7; #10 OHIO STATE)

State College, Pennsylvania - Joe Paterno's Spirited Speech Could Land His Team to the Rose Bowl
* #17 Michigan State {Spartans} at #7 Penn State {Nittany Lions}
Michigan State has nothing to lose since Ohio State already won. When you have nothing to lose, it means you can turn up the volume as loud as you want in an effort to stun and stymie any opposition that dares cross your path. For the Spartans, it's about entering the lion's den- the Nittany Lions' den, that is. Thanksgiving came five days early for Penn State because they feasted on Michigan State. (49-18; #7 PENN STATE)

Madison, Wisconsin - Fulfilled Promise, Great Disappointment, and a Tussle With... Cal Poly?
* California Polytechnical {Mustangs} at Wisconsin {Badgers}
Never mind what you heard about Michigan among Big Ten schools go. Look at Wisconsin- 7-5 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play. I'm going to cut to the chase. Would you believe me if I said to you that Wisconsin- one of the Big Ten's most capable teams, struggles against... California Polytechnical Institute? The Mustangs led the Wisconsin Badgers 20-14 at the half. Would you believe it- this game required OVERTIME! Had it not been for a missed extra point for Cal Poly, they would have pulled an Appalachian State on Wisconsin. But the Badgers came through against a team that probably could have smacked long time ago. (36-35, OT; WISCONSIN)

Let's go south, shall we?

Baton Rouge, Lousiana - Rebels Rebellious to Rampant LSU Tigers
* Mississippi {Rebels} at Louisiana State {Tigers}
Though the Mississippi Rebels are an improved team, the Tigers shown next to no effort to shut down the Mississippi Rebels. "Geaux Tigers" just wasn't there for LSU in this one. (31-13; Mississippi)

--- Houston Hometown Double ---
I won't spend too much time here. Two quick scores for you:

* Marshall at Rice (35-10; RICE)
* UTEP at Houston (42-37; HOUSTON) <<< come from behind win

Gainesville, Florida - Citadel Wants to Rumble with Florida... Florida Accepted!
* The Citadel {Bulldogs} at #3 Florida {Gators}
Bulldogs don't fare very well in swamps, especially when Florida Gators lurk in The Swamp. (70-19; #3 FLORIDA)

Nashville, Tennessee - Disappointment at Disappointment... Only One Will Falter Worse
* Tennessee {Volunteers} at Vanderbilt {Commodores}
The Volunteers will host the Kentucky Wildcats knowing that Tennessee took out the Vanderbilt Commodores. Tennessee has nothing to lose next week. (20-10; Tennessee)

San Diego, California - Chances of UNLV Making a Bowl Game are a Crap Shoot
* UNLV {Rebels} at San Diego State {Aztecs}
In typical UNLV fashion, the Rebels had a chance to make the postseason for the first time in a while. But what happened? They blew it to the lowly Aztecs. (42-21; SAN DIEGO STATE)

West Lafayette, Indiana - Coach Tiller Wants a Great Retirement Package
* Indiana {Hoosiers} at Purdue {Hoosiers}
Joe Tiller may be retiring, but not before his Boilermakers blow the doors off of the Indiana Hoosiers. The unanimous Old Oaken Bucket winners are Purdue. (62-10; PURDUE)

--- QUICK SCORES ---
For more scores, check this link out: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/scoreboard?w=13&c=all&refresh=0

* #20 Pittsburgh at #19 Cincinnati (28-21; #19 CINCINNATI)
* Iowa at Minnesota (55-0; Iowa) <<< Iowa is 8-4; MINN is 7-5
* Eastern Michigan at Temple (55-52; TEMPLE)
* West Virginia at Louisville (35-21; West Virginia)
* Clemson at Virginia (13-3; Clemson)
* Air Force at #15 TCU (44-10; #11 TEXAS CHRISTIAN)
* Tulane at Tulsa (56-7; TULSA)
* Akron at Ohio (49-42; OHIO)
* Washington at Washington State (16-13, 2OT; WASHINGTON STATE) <<< Washington STILL winless; final game is at California 12/6/2008

Division 1: FCS Scores
I'm going to feature only one game, then go quick on all of you.

Cambridge, Massachusetts - A Gentlemanly Form of Hate
* Yale {Bulldogs} at Harvard {Crimson}
Simply known as "The Game," the Crimson were game in taking down a pretty good Bulldog squad from Yale. George W. Bush's alma mater got blanked. (10-0; HARVARD)

--- QUICK SCORES ---
* Northwestern State at Stephen F. Austin (34-24; Northwestern State) <<< play for a very tall rivalry prize
* California-Davis at San Diego (28-20; SAN DIEGO)
* North Dakota at South Dakota (34-31, OT; North Dakota)
* South Dakota State at North Dakota State (25-24; South Dakota State) <<< sorry, High-Test...
* Savannah State at North Carolina Central (10-7; NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL)
* Campbell at Morehead State 42-7; MOREHEAD STATE) <<< Campbell is 1-10 in first season since reinstating football
* New Hampshire at Maine (28-24; New Hampshire) <<< UNH is 9-2
* Villanova at Delaware (21-7; Villanova)
* Northern Iowa at Southern Utah (34-24; Northern Iowa)
* Southern Illinois at Illinois State (17-10, OT; Southern Illinois)
* Montana State at Montana (35-3; MONTANA)
* Hofstra at Massachusetts (28-14; MASSACHUSETTS)
* Texas State at Sam Houston State (48-45, OT; Texas State)

Division 2 Scores
* playoffs; see Postseason Thread.

Division 3 Scores
* playoffs; see Postseason Thread.

I'm behind on my playoffs coverage. Next post will be my Winners and Losers, and a song you may like to cap off the week.

John's Winners and Losers
Before I share my Winners and Losers, I'd like for all of you to do something to help make times better for children who may never celebrate another Christmas again, financially-struggling families, and even some (especially here in Houston) families still displaced by hurricanes including Hurricane Ike here in Houston. Check out my YouTube video offering my own thoughts. Here it is:

So please do whatever you can to help children and families this season. Now here are the Winners and Losers I've deemed for this week's games.

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK - Mississippi Embarasses LSU at Their Place
Boy... LSU didn't show up at all. It was tough deciding a Big Win or a Bad Loss to this one. I'm giving this one a win because both teams are bowl-eligible.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK - (tie) UNLV Fails to Make a Bowl Game Losing Bad at Lowly San Diego State and Washington's Miserable Season Continues With Loss at Washington State in Overtime
(1) You had a chance... and you blew it. Bad. You lose to 1-10 San Diego State with a chance to make the postseason... and you lose bad. I know UNLV is not a very good team, but they had a chance to vindicate themselves of all their miserable losses and blew it.

(2) Washington State beats Washington in Overtime. The Emerald State was not meant for college football this season. Washington's final game is at California on December 6th. May be safe to say that Washington will be the only winless team.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any) - #2 Texas Tech Can Do Many Things... Except Showing Up in #5 Oklahoma's House
The Big XII South picture is now in total disarray with this disappointment of an effort by Texas Tech. Texas Tech never led in this game. It was a coast-to-coast beatdown. From what I'm hearing, the Red Raiders are still picking up loose teeth after getting knocked out so bad at Oklahoma.

OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK - If You're Going to Retire, Retire in 62-10 Style!
Happy retirement, Joe Tiller! You win a big one in a big way. Poor Indiana... unfortunately, you are...

Indiana = OWNED 62-10 by Purdue (and Joe Tiller)!

This week's thread is called "Unholy Alliance." I picked this song to cap off this great week of college football action. I've never seen the movie that has this song, but this song is wicked. As heard in "Constantine" and "Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli," enjoy "Ebla" by E.S. Posthumus:

"Ebla" by E.S. Posthumus

The season is over for some, but not in FBS. Next week's thread will come along when it's complete.
