College Football: 2015 Season

That was some of the worst officiating I've watched in a while. The targeting wasn't targeting (player who was ejected got pushed into the player by an offensive lineman), a touchdown wasn't even a touchdown (Michigan scored on a play that should have been blown dead), and numerous holds that were blatantly obvious and a few personal fouls didn't get flagged for both teams. The refs were abysmal, and to think that the crew was in some of the big playoff games last year is absolutely absurd. I will at least say that they did the right thing by not calling anything on the corners and Wideouts most of the time, but the crew should not be in any game that matters this year because they flat out sucked.

Score was right around where I figured because I predicted somewhere around 28-21, and I also predicted that the team with the ball last would win. Even then, I wasn't thinking that a special teams flub would end the game.

My beloved Houston Cougars remained unbeaten with a resounding 59-10 win at UCF. Meanwhile, in another part of Florida, #6 Clemson handed the University of Miami their worst loss in school history: 58-0.

Games like Texas A&M at Mississippi, #1 Ohio State at Rutgers, and Utah at USCal are still on tap for tonight. I hope all of your team(s) are doing well or have done well this week.

On a sad note... my thoughts are prayers are with all lives affected from a certain mishap at a Homecoming Parade at Oklahoma State. Several people were injured, and three people were killed. The driver of one vehicle was charged with a DUI. So my condolences go out to all affected from this incident.

[UPDATE] Utah at USCal, not USCal at Utah. Changes made.

Rutgers might be in Columbus attending the game there vs. Ohio State. They certainly aren't in New Brunswick putting up any semblance of a fight tonight vs. the #1 team.

#3 Utah needs a mega 4 minutes to stay undefeated. They're losing to USC 42-24 as of my post.

EDIT: USC upsets Utah with the final score of 42-24.

DOWN GOES UTAH AND FLORIDA STATE!

I looked around on Twitter and found a video of Georgia Tech knocking off Florida State on a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown. Last week's late Special Teams blunder was Michigan failing to Michigan State on a botched snap on a punt. This week's late Special Teams blunder for a win was Georgia Tech blocking a field goal and running it back for a touchdown. Wow!

As for Utah losing at USCal, it's sad the Utes couldn't utilize their offense enough to beat USCal in their house. It's going to be tough for Utah now to try to prove themselves to be among the College Football Playoff hopefuls. Utah will have to hope several other hopefuls falter down the stretch to maybe have a chance to make the Playoff.

Got to love college football, folks.

So I guess the University of Miami's patience wore incredibly thin on Al Golden after yesterday's evisceration. Maybe I got into sports at a time when I thought beating the U. of Miami was a huge deal back when I started being a sports fan in 2002. Back then... Miami was in the Big East and had an absolutely ballin' 2001 Miami Hurricanes squad. Since then, moved to the ACC and hasn't ever returned to being atop the college football world. Now you lose 58-0 at home to Clemson. Crazy fall from grace over the years.

Yesterday, I was actually surprised Ohio State handled Rutgers so well. I thought this would be a game in which Rutgers would probably upset the Buckeyes. I was expecting that game to maybe be 35-28, not 49-7 (or whatever the score was).

A big game this new week of college football will be Notre Dame at undefeated Temple. We're going to see if Temple is really for real once the Fighting Irish go to Philadelphia.

That officiating was SEC caliber in terms of how bad it was.

Houston hosts Vandy this week, it will be interesting to see how they do against a decent SEC defense.

I'm not surprised at all Miami decided to make a change. This was brought up a week ago on a UT site, a lot of people think they might go after Lane Kiffen. Its going to be interesting to see what happens this off season with who ends up getting hired there and at both USC west and USC east.

I'll be honest. Each time I thought of Jerry Kill, I thought of him with his seizures and other such problems. I have full respect for J. Kill and for him toughing it out while remaining head coach. I, too, wish him well in staying healthy.

West Virginia at TCU is tonight. A pretty tough schedule is coming up for TCU after this game (excluding Kansas).

Enjoy your college football this week, and good luck to all of your teams.

The Oklahoma State/ Texas Tech game had a targeting call today, and just like most of them, it (to the announcers) didn't look like targeting. I'm not sure if it was or wasn't targeting, but I do know that there have been a lot of targeting calls lately.

Yeah, AnthonyD1993. That was an awful call. I think it was eventually called mostly by seeing what looked like facemask to facemask contact. It was a pathetic call because that tackle looked clean to me. The refs, unfortunately, thought otherwise.

Last second heroics allowed Michigan to hold off Minnesota in a 29-26 victory. Jabrill Peppers iron manned the game and was on the field for over 80 plays on both offense and defense. He also had a TD on offense as a running back. I think that Minnesota would have won if they went for a field goal because they made Michigan's defense look awful. They were heavily outplaying the Wolverines in the last few minutes. Oh well, at least Michigan got the Little Brown Jug back this year.

I found out Michigan got themselves a Little Brown Jug. The Michigan Wolverines won 29-26 at Minnesota against one of their rivals. Congrats to Big Blue on the win!

Other random results...

* My Houston Cougars remained unbeaten with a 34-0 blanking of Vanderbilt. The Coogs have a remaining schedule of Cincinnati, Memphis (still unbeaten themselves), at Connecticut, and Navy.

* Temple hosted Notre Dame trying to stay unbeaten. Didn't happen. Temple had the lead late, but Notre Dame was the better team on this night in Philadelphia. They won 24-20.

* Miami went to Duke and beat the #22 Duke Blue Devils 30-27 on a wild final play sequence. I'd say this is a huge win after getting eviscerated 58-0 to Clemson at home.

* Nebraska, for the first time in school history, has lost six games before November. They lost today at Purdue 55-45. Sad one of college football's proudest programs has failed this badly of late.

Congratulations to other winners this week.

[UPDATE] Forgot UND at Temple score. Added.

The worst part about these bad targeting calls is that they are being upheld by the replay official. That makes me think that most of the officials still don't completely understand the rule. Also the calls are not allowed to be appealed to the NCAA or the conference office because they are reviewed by the replay official. In the 2nd half of the Tennessee/Kentucky game last night a Tennessee defensive back was called for targeting on what replay showed was a legal hit, and it was upheld on replay. In the OK State/TX Tech game they should have taken away the targeting foul and called that just a personal foul.

The entire officiating staff of the Miami/Duke game has been suspended by the ACC because of the mistakes they made at the end of the game last night.

Congratulations to my fellow Nashville,TN native Navy QB Keenan Reynoldson tying Monte Ball for the NCAA career rushing TD record with 77.

I didn't watch that game, but I heard that the officials in the Duke/Miami game were making bad calls through the entire game. But at least the ACC is trying to stop the poor calls by suspending officials instead of letting them coach another game. Last time I looked, I thought I had heard that the crew in the Duke/Miami game made four mistakes in the last play alone.

Word has it that Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer is going to retire after this season. Beamer, to me, is Hall of Fame material if he isn't in anybody's Hall of Fame. He basically helped put VT on the map in college football. You can't argue how much of a power VT is with Frank Beamer and the talent he's coached. It will be sad to see him step down. But still, he's one of the all-time great coaches in college football.

Later tonight, the first College Football Playoff rankings will be released. We'll get our first idea of who the best four are right now and which two are the 5th and 6th ranked teams outside looking in. So be sure to check out the rankings later tonight when the CFP committee make their picks.

The first College Football Playoff rankings were released earlier tonight, and here's your Playoff alignment here:

TOP 4 (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3)
1.) Clemson
2.) LSU
3.) Ohio State
4.) Alabama

FIRST TWO OUT:
5.) Notre Dame
6.) Baylor

So there's your first look at the College Football Playoff for 2015. This will surely change between now and the final regular season weekend of college football. Expect shuffling of positions as well as maybe other teams figuring into the CFP. For example, TCU may overtake some other team currently in this Top 6. Some of those Top 4 may move up or down but still be in the Top 4. Or maybe... a current Top 4 team could be one of the First 2 out. ANYTHING can happen between now and the final Playoff rankings.

Good luck to all teams moving forward.

Earlier today, future venues for the College Football Playoff were unveiled. Make plans if you want to be at the title game in these cities on these dates:

* 2018 CFP Championship Game = Atlanta, Georgia
* 2019 CFP Championship Game = Santa Clara, California
* 2020 CFP Championship Game = New Orleans, Louisiana

So you now have an idea where future games will be held for the College Football Playoff.

Besides this news, I learned Northern Illinois beat #24 Toledo last night at Toledo. The Toledo Rockets will likely get knocked out of the Top 25 and may have had their Group of 5 hopes of making the Playoff dashed thanks to the NIU Huskies. Want to stake your claim as being one of the best teams in college football? This is a pivotal month for all hopeful teams. Heck, even my Houston Cougars have a big month ahead of them when we get Memphis later this month as well as Navy- both at home.

Good luck to all of your teams this weekend and for the remainder of this season.

In MACtion last night Bowling Green beat Ohio U 62-24. Bowling Green has a pretty good team this year their only losses were to Tennessee, they gave us all we could handle for 3 quarters, and a 44-41 loss to a real good Memphis team. They also have a really good QB that I think should get a chance in the NFL next year.

Baylor is getting robbed! They've been dismantling every team they go against but yet Alabama is still getting favor?! This is BS!

I think some of it has to do with Baylor having to go to a backup QB, but I agree they aren't getting the respect they deserve.

Hopefully LSU beats Bama tonight to put them out of the playoff race. They might have a little extra motivation tonight since some Bama students hung this up yesterday.

In other only in the SEC news an Ole Miss fan called 911 during the game to have Arkansas QB Brandon Allen removed from the stadium.

I just about heard everyone in my apartments erupt.

On the other hand, here in Michigan, my Facebook is already blowing up with posts from Spartans fans complaining about the TD pass and Wolverines fans trolling the Spartans fans for whining about losing a game in the late seconds of it despite beating Michigan in the last seconds and not complaining about that finish (and most of the bad calls within) since Michigan State won. I personally don't know what to think because I look at it as if it was the Wolverines-Spartans game: it is what it is.

I think the reason why Baylor isn't getting as much playoff love is because of their Strength of Schedule. At least, according to the ESPN experts. Considering TCU got dropped like a bad habit at Oklahoma State, Baylor may get some extra loving from the College Football Playoff committee. #4 Alabama is currently whacking #2 LSU (30-10, Alabama, 10:03 left in 4th Quarter), so LSU may get dropped a few pegs down from their position.

As for my Michigan State comments, wow. It was a semi-awkward final play of the game; but for Nebraska's sake, this is a great highlight to their sorry-arse 2015 season. Michigan fans would be in love- Wolverines hammer the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and one of your hated rivals get stunned. I'd imagine Wolverines fans are enjoying this one.

Memphis is no longer unbeaten. So my Houston Cougars are the only "Group of 5" team still unbeaten. Guess who our next opponent is? Memphis- here in Houston.

Isn't college football great? :)

It will be interesting to see what the College Football Playoff rankings will be like tomorrow evening considering the insanity of this past week.

The real story rocking college football right now is all the protest and such involving racial issues at the University of Missouri. The football players boycotted taking part in any such activities unless the school president resigned. The president since has resigned, and so the Mizzou Tigers can focus on taking on the BYU Cougars this week.

Don't forget to check out what the latest Playoff rankings will be tomorrow. If you insist, what do you think the Top 4 will be or should be?

Latest rankings are as follows for the 2015 College Football Playoff...

TOP 4:
1.) Clemson
2.) Alabama
3.) Ohio State
4.) Notre Dame

POTENTIAL MATCHES (if playoff began today):
* Clemson vs. Notre Dame
* Alabama vs. Ohio State

FIRST TWO OUT:
5.) Iowa
6.) Baylor

So there are the latest rankings. Thoughts?

Oh dang! I had no idea Iowa was that strong this year!
