GTPlanet, it's time to start up college football season. Here is how I do game reports:

First off, I like to try to make things interesting with a nice little story if I can. What you will see is an asterisk (*) which I use as bullets for certain games. Those asterisks may be replaced with titles. The titles will be either interesting or humourous. The two teams battling will go after the title or asterisk. It is done in either of two formats: -TEAM B- at -TEAM A-, or -TEAM A- vs. -TEAM B- depending on if the game is a regular game or on neutral turf. Neutral turf is designated as areas not on the campus of a certain university or college. During the course of my game reports, I will at least mention both teams' nicknames. The score will be in parentheses with the winning score first. I spell out winning teams. Home teams that win will be in CAPITAL letters if it's not played on neutral turf. Away teams that win will be in regular lettering. New this year, I'll try two things. The first of which is perhaps a little more Division 2 and Division 3 coverage. I may get to them, I may not. But I at least want to mention each game or Top 25 scoring. My primary focus is NCAA, but I will try to go below Division 1 since the NJCAA and NAIA football teams aren't really noticed by us mainstream types. The second thing I want to try is to come up with a general synopsis of the week's games or the day's games. The synopsis I'll provide gives a general look at what happened. And if you noticed, I typed "day." Also new this season, I'll try to update scores from certain days of action like I did with my college basketball scores. If I don't have a lot of time to come up with a report in time, I'll simply go to RAPID FIRE. Rapid Fire is where I'll provide quick results of who played and who won. I'll provide you a general sample of how a week goes:

---THE FOLLOWING IS A SAMPLE AND NOT BASED ON ANY GAMES---
WEEK X SYNOPSIS:

A number of games played today have resulted in teams ranked 16th or lower play at home as teams ranked 15th or higher go on the road including Texas, Southern California, Alabama, and Louisiana State (LSU). If there was any reason to second-guess teams from non-BCS conferences today, it was because a big upset took place and will bust the high ranking of a certain team. There were also a handful of blowout victories including one major shutout. A Big Ten team took a Overtime loss in a heated game.

ALL GAMES
"Where the Buffalo Roam..." Colorado State vs. #13 Colorado (RIVALRY GAME - Invesco Field at Mile High; Denver, CO)
Tonight saw a big game between heated rivals Colorado and Colorado State. This is a heated battle for bragging rights in the state of Colorado. First off, Colorado. Folsom Field(?) is where Colorado calls home in football. The playing field is so beautiful. You can see dozens of excited Colorado fans on one side, then the beautiful mountain landscape in another distance. It's absolutely a wonderful sight. But nothing can be as wonderful as Buffalo football as this Big XII team tries to stampede Colorado State. But this Mountain West team is nothing to scoff at. The Rams will share the field in hopes of uprooting their rivals from Boulder as this Colorado Springs outfit tries to get a BIG win ove the Big XII. As the game played out, Colorado was picked off three times, fumbled twice, and even botched a punt. Sloppy play means that it was time to cash in. And Colorado State did just that. BIG stunner! (24-10; Colorado State)

"Bluegrass Blues" Western Kentucky at Kentucky
This could be Kentucky's year since one of the five best high school recruits chose Kentucky. That would be like Michael Jordan playing for the Atlanta Hawks. This game is all about Kentucky. So if you don't like this state, read the next report. Let's meet the home team. Kentucky is a pure basketball power. They didn't make it to the Final Four in hoops, but they still turned their season around to even make the postseason. Postseason is something Kentucky's been longing for as the football Wildcats haven't fared too well. Traditionally, most basketball powers can't cut the mustard in football. One of the best basketball schools to succeed in football is North Carolina. Kentucky's got problems in the form of Western Kentucky. Western Kentucky and Louisville have a similarity- the color red. But I'm sure Kentucky isn't too hateful of WKU. The wild kitties loathe Louisville Cardinal red. WKU is pretty good in both major sports. Certainly the Hilltoppers look to top Mount U. of K. in mounting a U.P.S.E.T. Stanford lost to California-Davis last season as a 1-AA school beats a 1-A. Will it happen here? Not at all. This was a beat down as the UK band played the fight song about eight times when Kentucky scored. The only time WKU played their fight song was during halftime. Blue and white triumph BIGTIME. (56-0; KENTUCKY)

"Got-R-Done!" Ohio State at Texas
No Vince Young? No problem, right? I wish it were that easy, because it isn't. Texas' game over North Texas was a good win, but now it's time to stop playing and start PLAYING. Two of the best games of 2005 involved Texas. Texas beat Ohio State on the road and then beat Southern California for the National Championship. The goal for Texas this year- win it all... AGAIN. It's tough replacing (Houston's own!) Vince Young, so the Longhorns will need new leaders to step up. Texas is going to welcome another football power. THE Ohio State University is one of be best football programs anywhere in the nation. Ohio State lost at home last year to Texas. So the best way to get revenge is to go into enemy territory and take the fight to Texas. Taking the fight ANYWHERE is how Buckeyes win games and championships. This game was a defensive stranglehold. So much so that the game was deadlocked 10-10 after regulation. Regulation solves nothing. Bring on overtime, baby (thank you Dick Vitale!)! And in overtime, Texas held Ohio State to three points. Texas was almost picked off twice in OT. If they succeded, GAME OVER. But a Halfback Screen succeeded in a wonderful touchdown to beat Ohio State. Ohio State hasn't beaten Texas yet. This was certainly a heartbreaker for OhSU. (16-13, OT; TEXAS)

* Northern Iowa at Youngstown State
In this Division 1-AA game, it's UNI vs. YSU. And in the end, the Northern Iowa Panthers beaten Youngstown State by a touchdown. (35-28; Northern Iowa)

---RAPID FIRE SAMPLE---
1-A
* Michigan at Syracuse (45-3; Michigan)
1-AA
* Montana at Texas Southern (31-0; Montana)
* Georgia Southern at Southern (45-42, 2OT; SOUTHERN)
2
* Nebraska-Omaha at Grand Valley State (31-28; GRAND VALLEY STATE)
* Central Arkansas at Azuza Pacific (24-21, OT; Central)
3
* Mount Union vs. Millsaps (42-14; Mount Union)
* Trinity (Texas) vs. TCNJ (27-20; THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY)

---END OF SAMPLE---

At the end of each week, I'll come up with my games of special interest. Categories include:

BIGGEST WIN OF THE WEEK - for the biggest win a team can pick up. For example, a team who scores a win over someone they've failed to beat for a certain number of years. Think of Kansas beating Nebraska from last year.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS OF THE WEEK - for the team who could have won, should have won, would have won... you get the idea. An example would be Michigan State losing to Northwestern last year or so.

UPSET OF THE WEEK - for a game that ended up in a lower team beating a higher-ranked team. For example, imagine if Michigan were #8 in the nation and get beat by Indiana. Or a much more popular example would be TCU's upset win over Oklahoma.

[B}OWNAGE OF THE WEEK[/B] - this is my personal favorite. OWNAGE OF THE WEEK is for the team who beats the other team by a HUGE degree. A popular example from a few years ago would be Oklahoma beating Texas A&M 77-0.

---SAMPLE OF AWRDS---
(The following is a sample report. Whether or not the teams play on the given schedule from these reports is of no relevance.)

BIGGEST WIN OF THE WEEK: Kentucky Beats Notre Dame - This team has really come on strong the past few weeks. They'll head into SEC play coming up, so it will be interesting to see where the momentum of this game goes for the Wildcats.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS OF THE WEEK: #10 Iowa Fails to Capitalize on Oklahoma State's Mistakes, Leading to Loss - Hawkeye nation isn't going to love this. They had PLENTY of chances to win, yet failed to make the most of everything. The players seemed completely tired and didn't really pour their hearts into this game. The game was there for the taking, and Iowa failed to capitalize.

UPSET OF THE WEEK: #5 LSU taken down by #24 Alabama - Whoa Nelly! The Tuscaloosa boys went to Baton Rouge and shocked everyone in Baton Rouge. They could have taken an extra point to go into Overtime, but they connected a last-minute two-point conversion and really brought the house down on LSU. Wow!

OWNAGE OF THE WEEK: Houston Beats Indiana State BIGTIME The Houston Cougars welcomed Indiana State and put a BIG hurtin' on Indiana State as the winless Sycamores from last year were ousted by an unreal 66-7.

Indiana State = OWNED!
---END---

Of course, I welcome your commentary for each week's games. These threads aren't for me to gaze over while you just read. I want you to get involved. Now, the real emphasis is on the rivalry game between Division 2 rivals Tuskegee and Stillman. It's just to give you some perspective on how scores will be done. So stay tuned. Whether or not I will get the game done early Sunday morning or Saturday Night will depend on how my dentist visit goes.

As a note, some Division 2 games have already taken place. Read more on Division 2 and Division 3 at:

Okay. I promised to get the scores in from the Tuskgegee/Stillman game. The X-Factor would be my visit to the dentist, which didn't end up as bad as I thought it would be. The next time I go to the dentist, things won't be so easy going. So I may not get to cover all of Week 1's games effectively when the Division 1 games start. I will do you a double here. I have the Tuskegegee and Stillman game. But I will also do some Division 2 and Division 3 games if I can get any for you all. This game is a sample of how I will be doing scores. The key game for this thread is the Tuskegee/Stillman game. So let's do this.

TUSKEGEE/STILLMAN SYNOPSIS:
A heated battle between two SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) sees the powerhouse of Tuskegee University take on their rivals in Tuscaloosa, AL. Not the Alabama Crimson Tide, but Stillman College. Two proud historically-black colleges and universities (HBCU) are ready to get football season into gear even while Division 1 has yet to get kicked off for real.

"Soul Food for Thought" Tuskegee at Stillman
Division 1 action may not be underway yet, but I think Divisions 2 and 3 are in action. Certainly two Alabama rivals are ready for football in being seperated by about less than 100 miles. And this is a bonus to all you cat lovers because we have two different breeds of Tigers going at it. Let's profile Tuskegee first Established in 1881, Tuskegee University is the first-ever all-black college or university in America. A school like Tuskegee was around well before the Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education court trial when there was lots of segregation and slavery. I am an African-American, so I can say that it is a pretty sad to imagine living in the days when slavery wasn't abolished. Tuskegee is also home to the first-ever black college or university to have a football stadium with Abbott Field. The Golden Tigers are a VERY talented powerhouse of football. They are among a number of Division 2 HBCU teams such as North Carolina Central, Virginia Union, Morehouse College... and their Alabama rivals of Stillman College. The city of Tuscaloosa is better known for the Crimson Tide. But somewhere in Tuscaloosa is a small college in the name of Stillman College. The blue-clad Stillman Tigers are thinking upset over their rivals from east central Alabama. They hosted Tuskegee in this match, hoping to see the Stillman Tigers tame the Golden Tigers. When I came home from the dentist, it was 17-6 in favor of the Golden Tigers. Only thing that changed was an extra touchdown + PAT to make it 24-6, and game over. The Golden Tigers were 24 karats sparkling in this game. (24-6; Tuskegee)

(extra: The official website of the SIAC is { http://www.thesiac.com }. Check that site out if you want to learn more about the teams that play in this conference and the varsity sports available for them.)

The Division 1 fun should start this coming Thursday. I may have to return to the dentist next week, so I don't know if I'll get in as many scores as possible. I may want to have some of you talk about the week's games if I'm unable to share them with you all.
