MOSCOW, Russia (Reuters) -- A Russian astrologist who says NASA has altered her horoscope by crashing a spacecraft into a comet is suing the U.S. space agency for damages of $300 million, local media has reported.

NASA deliberately crashed its probe, named Deep Impact, into the Tempel 1 comet to unleash a spray of material formed billions of years ago which scientists hope will shed new light on the composition of the solar system.

"It is obvious that elements of the comet's orbit, and correspondingly the ephemeris, will change after the explosion, which interferes with my astrology work and distorts my horoscope," Izvestia daily quoted astrologist Marina Bai as saying in legal documents submitted before Monday's collision.

A spokeswoman for a Moscow district court said initial preparations for the case were underway but could not say when the hearing would begin. NASA representatives in Moscow were unavailable for comment.

I don't think that she has a case, mostly because I don't believe in horoscopes and what not.

What do you think?

YES !... SUE !... And do it hard...

And if the above is incorrect, I second Famines post....

Times like this I wish I was a judge. So I could LAUGH these people out of my courtroom!

If she wins, I will have lost all faith for mankind... this has to be one of the most absurd things I've heard in a long time. What a moron.

Not only will she have to prove that the collison caused the horoscope to change, but she'll need to demonstrated actual money damages as a result. This case will never make it to court.

I think that lady is out of her mind. Horoscopes aren't true anyway. I hope they drop the case. The Temple I and Deep Impact project pictures are pretty neat, if you haven't seen them on TV or NASA's website yet.

I think she'll have a hard time proving that the collision has changed her horoscope. The comet's orbit is unchanged, as is (for all practical purposes) its mass and therefore gravitational force (which basically no effect on Earth or her). So I don't know how she can claim that her horoscope has changed... the position, energy, and mass of the comet are all unchnaged in any real meaningful way.

I knew a babe named Sue Nassau once . She was hot .
That's funny I usued to know this one girl named Sue Nguyne or something like that, but she was HOT! she had a causin too um umm. Asian too.

Yeah, that should be good.

As for the astrologer, somebody should slam her into a comet... :ouch: How come she didn't see it coming? If she was an astrologer worth her salt, she'd have foreseen this and acted accordingly... silly mare...

I think people should be penalized for silly law suits, that waste people's time. What a fool. 👎

Funny, I just finished reading Adams' Mostly Harmless.

Anyway, I'm going to relieve my stress by pretending that the fly flying around me is that Russian lady – time to get the fly-swatter!

They are. If you file a frivolous lawsuit and take it to court you will have to pay the court costs of the other party.

Similarly, if you refuse a reasonable settlement offer you will have to pay the court costs of the other party.

That's good to know. 👍

Isn't astrology the belief that a planet's location among certain groups of stars might pre-determine a future?

A comet is not a planet. A comet is not a star. It's location among any group of stars doesn't play any part in predicting the future for people who were born when such-and-such planet was in a certain group of stars.

Therefore, a comet is just an outsider in the game of astrology. Whether we, as humans, alter its course or not has no bearing on astrology.

Case dismissed.

Next!

I'm not an astrologer, but strangely, I seem to be able to see into her future... I can even put a figure on the damages that she is likely to receive... :sly:

Now, where can I meet this Sue Nassau?

I heard of another one on the news radio this morning, this guy's dad named the comet at one point, so hes gonna sue nasa too. :boggled:

No they're not.

Well then you obviously don't hear a lot. I'd say 99% of society is absurd and only a blind moron has faith for mankind.

I don't really care about what NASA as well as that astrologist idiot are doing. I don't understand how you can be so fierce and serious about a piece of rock in space. Everybody's wondering if there is intelligent life in space. I wonder if there's any intelligent life on earth.

Guess who missed the point of the Deep Impact mission?

if we are using this ^ as an example ..I would guess not .

That's because you don't understand what science can be done on a peice of rock in space or the impact it has on our understanding of our universe. Just remember that some people are actually interested in learning new things and making progress - even if you're only interested in keeping your belly full and masturbating for as long as possible (figuratively as well as literally).

... it's entirely possible that precursor material such as amino acids etc. that gave rise to life on this planet, arrived on the back of a comet many billions of years ago... I can scarcely think of a more interesting astronomical object to study than a comet...

Oh come on. Science uses a model that substitutes the universe with the sole purpose of manipulating it. This is very effective and useful, but does not, in any way, contribute to our UNDERSTANDING of the universe.

But ofcourse, who am I saying this to... :indiff:
