Earth to be hit by comet on 25th May 2006

I have my Guide, and I have my towel. Just waiting for my improbable pickup to meet my date at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Just please, please, please, don't let it be the Vogons again!

So any ideas on what time this is going to happen? I tried to tell my boss i wanted today off because some french people said it was going to be the end of the world but he wasnt having any of it....

I used a half empty bottle of chocolate milkshake, some neurofen, a couple of matches and alot of parcel tape (all items found on a my office desk) to make a weapon to protect us all...

...unfortunately i spilt the chocolate milkshake and was too busy getting it out of my trousers to realise that i missed the doomsday deadline only to find the comet/meteor or whatever it was has missed and my amazing weapon of protection is uselss now :grumpy:

Oh well

:ouch: I blew my life-savings last night in Soho and at the casino, called my boss a 🤬 before I left work, ran down my street naked and asked a hot girl at work if she'd sleep with me before we were all killed at 2pm today... Jeez, talk about burning your bridges...

So, now that we have all survived, is this comet even within viewing distance of Earth?

Yes. It's about 6 million miles away and is visible with a reasonable pair of binoculars.

Sweet. You don't happen to know roughly where in the sky do you?

Nevermind, I will look that up for my region.

I found a pretty big comet.

In the direction of the Sun*. Can't miss it... :D

It's in 6 large fragments currently - though one of them split up into 30 smaller fragments, and it's one of these small fragments that Monsieur Doom said we'd hit.

*Note: Please do NOT look at the Sun with binoculars, okay?

I've been sat here, at work, bored and waiting, and still nothing! GAH!

Once again, another crack pot makes a total arse of themselves.

But, but, how else am I supposed to look at it? It looks so tiny from here otherwise. I mean, it's not like its a laser, right? :D

What if they are dark tinted binoculars with UV protective coating?

I've set up my $40000000000 telescope with camera to record the image of the impact and nothing happened! :grumpy: what a waste of $40000!!
