Comparing/Contrasting the new GT5 Demo & NFS-Shift

Glad there are a few who share my views ;) Just finished a stint around the Nordschleife in a stock F1 McLaren, no assists, and as usual I'm certainly not the fastest bloke round the block. But if you try to keep it real, boy it's just an amazing ride because it's so beautifully harsh and you really have to work the track.

If you try to run a clean, fast lap, pass the AI in a somewhat realistic manner while keeping the car from sliding, then it's far more a proper racer than an arcade game.

GT5 won't give me that - it gives me the chance to be properly anal about corners and wondering if 83 km/h are a good exit speed or where I lost my 10th.

Seriously, have both and enjoy them. Just don't tell anyone - we need our guilty little secrets ;)

Absolutely!

The F1 has become one of my favorites... why? Because few other cars in this game keep you as honest as the McLaren, without being overtly stressful like the CCX. For pure adrenaline & audio relaxation (if you can call it that), the McLaren on it's home track of Silverstone is a speed junkie's dream. And I find nothing "arcadey" about it. As a matter of fact... be back in 20 mins.... :)

I finally setup my wheel yesterday and played the two titles back to back. I started on GT5 time trial with the stock Nissan which felt like it was floating around the corners, it was easy to over correct this car in the turns. I then tried the Tuned Nissan and WOW they got this one right. I had all assists off on both cars and I think I turned a 1:40.xx with the tuned version. There was a sense of speed between the two cars when you drove them but not like the sense of speed in Shift. I did notice some frame rate issues in the GT5 demo but just discounted them while I drove. I proceeded to play Shift and took the GT3 out on the SPA, finally the bouncing seems to have been taken care of by the latest patch. I did notice a huge difference in the quality of the graphics, I just wish EA would get away from the 720P rendering in games. Bottom line is I do enjoy both titles, it is just depends on what the mood is at the time. I find that GT5 takes much more concentration and precision driving while playing particularly with the gas and brake functions as well as the wheel handling. I still dig the '67 Shelby in Shift it just sounds and feels good tossing it around the corners at Laguna Seca:tup:. Since I use a Buttkicker while driving it adds to the experience greatly in both titles all though it is much more prominent in Shift. See Y'all on the Track.......

I like both as well, but my heart is with the GT franchise. Shift has far better engine sounds than GT ever did. I really do feel like I'm running on the ragged edge when playing Shift. When playing GT5:TT it feels very sterile, like all of the excitement has been stripped. I think part of this feeling comes down to the crash effects, Shift does an excellent job at disorienting you when you've dumped the car. In GT it feels like I'm in a bumper car.

However, for me, GT is much more driveable and predictable than Shift is. I play on a controller and I find I'm always weaving around the track in Shift, whereas in GT I feel like I can keep a fairly good consistent line.

The graphics in both suit each game's "personality", Shift is a bit more raw where GT's is more clean and polished.

Hey Femki! Long time no see!

I think that's a good assessment of the two games.
BTW: Do you want to get in on the League races on Saturday?

Hey Manny, I'd love to however I'm out of town this weekend. Maybe next time or just a quick online race or five.

Yeah, just join in when you're around. I think you're on Central Time right? So, It'd be 4pm for you.

And of course, I'll see you online!:)

Man, i´ve got to say... i was so skeptical about this game at the beginning... perhaps because the history of NFS Undergrounds and Porn Tuning related titles ... but i have to admit... when i first played it with a G25... man, WHAT A FUN RIDE! The sound feels really intense, the speed sense, the force feedback... you really feels like you are "driving" fast and furious.... You can feel every bump and shake, and thats make the difference...

When i´ve played GT5P after that, it was like i was flying above the track... the car was so steady... and fixed..i dont know. Hope GT5 came with a more deep sense of speed.

I prefer the penalty system of GT5P for online playing.
NFS online, however, in my opinion blows GT5P to the weeds.
Just wish they had a better penalty system.
I've waited forever trying to enter a race in GT5P, only to get booted
with some sort of matching error.

I'm agree with some of the comments. Shift bring you the amazing sensation that you are really driving something. The another wonderfull thing of shift, is that you can play in an arcade way if you prefer it, or you can play an amazing simulation if you are playing the game in a fair driving style. This game is clearly true adrenaline packed.

Gran Turismo is more sanitized at every point. The fun isn't really share by the races experience. But it is share by awsome graphics and smart driving.
But i really can't wait to drive a NSX around the Nurburgring in GT5!

SLS AMG on the nordshleife in GT5!!!
