Competitive advantage using 'clutch'?

So I used to rely on the WRS on GT4 to challenge myself every week and compete with other races. I'm probably still in the database with this same username. (I was in the middle of the 3 divisions) I eventually got kind of turned off by realizing I'd always be DQ'd if I won since I couldn't prove the lap times without a PS2 ScanDisc device. Oh well, maybe I'll get back into with you guys on GT5 when I'm not shuffle racing online (name FUZZYBUNS).

Anyway, I was browsing this weeks challenge and was wondering why this is there:
The use of the clutch that is found on the G25, G27, and other high end racing wheels is strictly prohibited.

I use the G27 w/ clutch. It's not fast, but it's good practice for my actual road racing in the summer.

How could the G27 clutch pedal be an unfair advantage? Clutch kicking at low RPM cars with horrendous gear ratios, and narrow powerbands? I've NEVER thought of the clutch on a G27 to be an advantage, only a disadvantage.

It was an advantage in GT5 Prologue since it was possible to use the clutch without having to lift off the throttle. The rule has remained since.

I'm not sure if it was ever tested once GT5 came out, but the clutch in GT5 is awkward at best and it's easier just to not use it.

The clutch ban extends to all rigs that have a clutch.
The reason for this is that the clutch is not available to to all drivers (DFGT, DS3, etc.) and it's not possible to determine whether or not a clutch could provide an unfair advantage without testing all devices side by side. Previous GT5 releases have had an advantge when the clutch was used.
In order to keep everyone on the same level the use of a clutch in any / all WRS events is banned.

We've actually expanded beyond Time Trials and now host weekly online races as well as monthly special events.
