Complete overlook of Rally mode

Hello fellow GTS-ers.

Ever since update 1.15 (I believe, maybe earlier), I've observed a massive improvement in physics when it comes to the Rally stages - the cars basically respond much more in line with what you'd expect from a Rally/RallyCross stage. The stages are rather cool and somewhat long (basically good looking, long version of what rally cross is today, without he joker sections), and the cars are gorgeous and feature a wide selection (I assume what PD wanted to do with this Group B cars is a shout-out to the Group B of old, where many high-end sportscar manufacturers like ferrari and porsche used to race with monster-cars, not just small compact hatches like today - although the addition of hillclimb cars like the oldschool Audi Quattro and Peugeot coupe stand out as odd in this class).

Things have been moving a bit positive as far as attention to this class is concerned in the past updates, with the addition of a Rally Cross championship in the single player mode (although curiously it only features one rally stage, and 2 street races, which makes racing this cars a bit odd).

However, one huge aspect with very big potential was overlooked - custom races. For some reason, PD decided to only let you race against 1 (one) other car whenever you want to set up a customer rally race - and this makes absolutely no sense. The class would have been greatly improved and the time spent racing this cars as well have PD not decided to take this very bizarre approach.

What do you guys think? Or am I missing something and there is some way to race against a full grid of rally cars in Custom Race?

I've only done the mission challenge track experience and the leagues and the rally isnt that bad... you get used to the way they drive, it took me longer to get a grip on the GT6 rally model.

I thought rally was half *ssed in GT6 but its even more perfunctory in GTS. I feel its possibly got to the do with the rally tracks which are terrible.

The tarmac rally is terrible and so are the northern isle stadium events. I'm not sure why they even bother.

Really? I actually find Sardegna and Colorado Springs really good - and I'm quite a big rally fan. It's no WRC7, of course, but they are very fun for original tracks. And the physics are quite good. Not WRC 7 level, but better than Dirt 4 for example, which is terrible.

I love the way the Group B cars handle. It's unfortunate that the off road surfaces are consistently bland with the same traction variance throughout the entire course. They should have really stayed with rally cross types of courses instead of the dirt tracks they have now. The physics are better suited for groomed dirt and gravel surfaces rather than erratic muddy terrain.

Rally was always half-assed in Gran Turismo ever since it's debut on GT2, and quite frankly I don't understand why they still bother with putting it in every game.

With each iteration, either the rally class doesn't have interesting cars, or the physics are bad, or the game just doesn't have opportunities to race in the dirt.

And this is quite aggravating for me because we can see the potential is there with GTS, physics are great and the car selection is cool(it lacks Group B classics but it makes up for it) but the game itself doesn't offer many opportunities for us to enjoy it.

Rally mode should be scrapped. Gran Turismo has never done rally properly to be honest Im also happy SMS did not do it either as they also came close to putting rally in Project Cars series until they scrapped it. If you are going to do a half assed rally its just no point in putting resources into it.

Since we have rally cars does not mean they should be scrapped either.

Solution is to do point to point tarmac rallying. So Pikes Peak should be a start to this since its point to point and it is tarmac.

Who needs point to point rally and/or rallycross in GT Sport when Dirt Rally (superb) and WRC7 (very good) are so much better at it ?

Not sure what you mean. The rally cars and (very few, only 3) stages in GTS clearly embody Rally Cross, not proper rally stages, and PC2 actually has rally cross, so in that aspect they both more-or-less embody the same type of rallying.

AS far as point-to-point, maybe. The rally physics are rather good and so the 3 stages. I really hope they'll flesh out the category with more stages AND the option to race against a full grid in custom mode, not just 1 other car.

As far as Pikes Peak, a while back PD got exclusive rights to use it, so expect it in GTS in an upcoming update.

It definitely needs some work in terms of dirt/tires feedback, suspensions and content, but since it can offer a decent amount of fun with road cars, I don't think it should be scrapped entirely. Agreed about Pikes Peak, that could be fun (when they actually decide to include it..who knows when).

I have just a question regarding rally, do the cars even get dirty or dusty??
I have months without touching rally courses or even rally missions, considering how boring it gets after a while.

I enjoy the off road/rally element of GT, and always have. I like the drifting element on the dirt tracks. :) There were iconic rally cars like the Subaru's and the Evo's which were designed for that type of surface, so why not show them off on different surfaces. :) They added to that with lots of other rally cars like Escort's, Peugeot's and Quattro's etc in the past.

However, when PD put up some races called 'Rally Cross' it appeared that they didn't have a clue what Rally Cross was. Rally Cross are short races over 'mixed surfaces', usually Tarmac and Gravel, with a 'Joker' lap detour to mix up the placings a bit. Do any of the GTS races resemble that? :boggled: Indeed, are there any races in GTS that have two surfaces to race on, as there have been in GT games in the past? I think not, unless I am mistaken. :banghead: They could have easily have made a Rally Cross track at Willow Springs for example, but instead they misuse the Rally Cross name. :irked: They could have called it Rally Challenges or something, but they decided to **** it up and come over to me at least, like they don't have a clue.

I still like 'driving on the dirt with with the cars in GTS occasionally, but Rally Cross it is not.
