Absolutely right nova. I know before going in last night I felt like I was off the pace. Best was at 1:53.4. But somehow I pulled off the 2 best laps I ever did in qualifying 1:52.6 and then by end of race two, I pulled off of 1;52,.0! It’s not like I didn’t put in a bunch of laps practicing either because I did. There’s something about the competition that makes you dig really deep
52.0 without draft? I can 110% guarantee I'm not doing that. I hit 52.3 or 52.4 with help from the draft. Alone I think I hit 52.7 but I'd have to confirm. Either way I'm definitely not doing that every lap. Car is a 53.0-53.1 car at best, consistently.

Lol, that was exactly the goal of the series....to present the biggest challenges to the fastest drivers, pushing all of us a bit past our comfort zones while having to restrain ourselves enough to be consistent and avoid mistakes. Tough balance to achieve. Put this in perspective: if on same tires, even with a -2%hp/+2%wgt handicap, you would immediately be 0.3-0.5 sec faster in avg pace in every aspect resulting in what you would experience in every other series...a runaway in the races. @Roman_GT23 and @LST saw this during testing; even with the 2% handicap, they still managed to run away from the field in both races. On the race hards, maintaining your hp/wgt at base, it hits your time potential by around 1.2-1.5 sec and challenges your higher skill level in every respect to be successful (accel, braking, cornering) while remaining competitive. If we went to a -3 to 5%hp/+3-5% wgt handicap, that would equate to a drop of around 12-20hp and add around 100-140lbs. You aliens could probably overcome this deficit in the corners,, but would get murdered on the straights. (Just ask the Level 1 and 2 handicap guys). This is why I decided to use Race Hards for Level 3-5 handicaps: maintain enough power to hold down or get some reprieve on the straightaways while handicapping you across the board enough to be challenged. Briefly looking at the times, you were right in the mix of being competitive while being presented a challenge, and rather than just getting the usual battle for 1st place, every single position on the grid was a battle in and of itself with defensive racing being just as important as attacking. In my mind the series succeeded in its intent.
Again, it is what it is. *shrug*

I am kind of thinking about maybe moving to hard tires hahaha
I hope something is done to tighten up the field. I personally ran what i felt was a solid race first race with no off tracks and finished 20+ seconds behind. We were much more spread out than the gs class.

Agreed. It's not that fun driving alone near the back. Would be different if we were battling for 5th or something, but it felt like if you lost the top 4 you were on your own.

Last night was some really top quality racing, I just wish I could’ve held my own better in race two... it’s still amazes me how much one little mistake can put you behind with this group. Guess that’s what I signed up for! Super great battling with Duc in both races for sure. I just feel like the technical difficulties we were having through me off a little. Plus, I kept beating myself up for the caution I caused in race one... oh well. What’s done is done and I still had a fantastic time.

We also only have 6 to 8 drivers. It can feel lonely all over the track. Not just in the back. You guys in the Audi's are going to leave everybody at Fuji for sure.

I have ran the vw so far. Lap times tell the story. 1 lap in 40+ at 55.8xx while the top 4 were consistently at or near that pace before tire wear. Heri won the second race in the Audi.
While i hear you on our class being smaller means some lonely track time go and watch the gs class races. I think that type of CLOSE racing is the goal.

I get what you mean mate, everyone wants close racing.
I’m running the same car as you tho, only heavier and less power. I was getting eaten alive out of the chicane & onto the straight every lap.
I was running 56/57s in the first few test sessions, before finding an online tune & gearing changes - and doing a few hours of practice - that got me into the 55/56s.

These races are hard. I was shattered in race one and looked up to find we’d only run 10 laps!

I missed the “GS stress” this week, and get what ppl have said about it getting lonely on the track with only 8 of us. Always better to run a full field, but don’t see how we could do that without restricting to 16ppl max every week.

This is the best & closest racing series I’ve been part of.
I reckon Nova’s done a great job creating something as balanced as possible, without having us all in the same car. I mean, compare it to how off-balance the BOP in FIA Gr4 series have been (#TTCup).

I’m certainly not saying these races are easy, but damn I’m having a good time :)

You are the reason I need to run hard tires mate. Lol!

I had nothing for you at the end of both races.

Ive tried to have my bop balanced around not tuning. I realize that late in the race my tire wear is going to be higher and my lap times are going to fall away a bit more but im fine with that if the field was a bit closer in pace. The top 4 are all pretty balanced but there was a significant gap to the bottom of the field.

Good morning gentlemen,
Was a very busy day yesterday, so I just caught up with alot of the dialogue, and glad to get everyone's input.
In regards to the bop balancing, there are so many variables to consider: cars that favor certain tracks, tracks that favor specific drivers, how much practice, tuned/not tuned, etc etc. The goal is and always has been to get everyone within a 0.5 sec avg pace potential. Will it always fall in?....No. And even when it does, there is the fast side of that 0.5 sec and the slow side. With that being considered, at just a 0.5 sec off the pace over 20 laps, it does come out to a 10 sec deficit, and then when you take in consideration of poor laps mixed in the field it can spread even farther apart. I do believe we have done a great job, all things considered, with the varying skillsets among our field. I will take the next few weeks in between events to review and average everones lap times in an effort to verify/adjust to bring us in even closer, but at some point it will be a wall and it just becomes chasing. Just know that I will do everything I can to draw it in as close as possible.

On another note, it is highly unlikely that we will see another split room event. Last night did see some great racing in the GS Class, but the spilt event left a bad taste in my mouth by not maintaining the numbers we started with in GS, and seeing that the TCR group had spread open so much despite maintaining good numbers on the grid. I originally had planned for 3 reserves for each class, but when the interest built and numbers expanded I built the reserve rosters to allow up to 6 on each class. I then came up with the room expansion idea to accommodate when a huge number confirmed present. Unfortunately we were not able to hold the numbers on race night resulting in a less than what we have come to expect event.
A big nod to all drivers for communicating and for the great turnouts overall, and the fact that we did have to attempt a room expansion this past event with 21 drivers originally confirmed to race was evidence of the enthusiasm over the series.
I have reviewed the roster, and thinned out the drivers list, dropping any drivers that have not communicated or have been MIA so far for the season. This has left us with the following Reserve drivers moving forward, a very solid group id like to point out.

GS Class-in order of priority to move up
@GTR4MROD
@R1600Turbo
@DesertPenguin
@Kermit_2142

TCR Class- tied in event participation, 1st to confirm for next events gain priority
@Herimopp89
@Fudman420

For now, these are the Reserve rosters I hope to maintain. Any additional drivers that choose to join will just have to wait their turn in the hope something opens up.

It was worth the try on expanding to 2 rooms, but just didn't deliver the hoped for results. Therefore, to even consider splitting the rooms again, I have changed the threshold to 14 GS Drivers confirmed, 10 drivers for TCR...which as you can see by our current drivers list is impossible...but the option will still be in place. To our committed Reserve drivers, I'd ask that you continue to practice and prepare and be ready to move up at anytime, even up to the start of qualifying.

Now all that is out of the way for now, I have another busy day ahead, but am hoping to get scores, photos, and post race race report delivered sometime tonight or tomorrow with race broadcasts to be added later in the week.

Great racing to everyone, and thanks again for the great commitment and enthusiasm over the series.:cheers:

I did see this Fud and will be extensively reviewing the lap times to try to get you and a few others closer to the group pace.;)

Alright drivers,
For the sake of transparency, below you will see photo captures of every driver who raced at our last 2 events at Laguna Seca and Barcelona. Below each batch of drivers' screenshots is the average time based on those times displayed. Bad laps (over 4 seconds from a specific drivers fast lap) are omitted. Also included are the fastest laps displayed for each driver for the event. These numbers will then be recorded in the spreadsheet, reviewed, and any adjustments needed will be made.
This post will reflect the TCR Class only.
Lap averages will be added as I get to them, but here are the photo captures for now.
