The only way i can get in is thru safemode, when i try to boot it up i get the windows loading screen, then when its SUPPOSED to go to the welcome screen, it just goes black. ive tried a couple system restore points, doesnt fix it. Any ideas on what else i could try/look for here?

just tried swapping my 512ddr ram w/ my old 512 sd ram because ive been having my doubts about this ddr i have, but nope, still wont boot

Have you check to make sure it's not a Mac? (:

At this point. with the amount of problems i have w/ my pc (even tho i do nothing different from any other normal user) Im almost considering getting a mac. im fed up w/ this ****.

and viper. when i startup my computer, i dont get that blue screen, after the windows loading screen shows, i get nothing at all. could that still be my problem or does that always show a blue screen when that registry error happens?

Yeah, it should show the blue screen stop error. But, like I said, it might be related. Not necessarily the same problem.

I searched the newsgroups on Google and I couldn't find a straight answer. A lot of people have posted the same problem.

well hey. i havent formatted my hard drive in what, like 2 weeks now? i guess its time again. guess i'll go buy another hard drive tomorrow so i can save as much **** as possible. i need another one anyways. i was down to about 13 gigs left on the 60 i have now. I swear to god computers have shortened about 10 years off my life so far w/ all the stress they give me.

um...well...not ILLegal, but i didnt exactly "pay" for it. my cousins a computer tech so he gave me a copy and gave me one of the numbers that he paid for

It wouldn't matter if his copy of XP is legal or not. Just because someone obtains Windows "illegally" doesn't mean it's any different from a "legal" copy. They're exactly same.

Don't worry, it's not the PC's fault, it's Windows. And I'm sure OS X has just as many problems as XP does. :P

Make sure you go to My Computer > Right Click on your Hard Drive > Properties > Hardware > Select your Hard Drive > Click on Properties > Policies > Uncheck Enable Write Caching on the Disk. Do this for all of your hard drives.

i will definently do that. thanks for the info

just outta curiousty, is there anything that could happen because i turn the disk cache off? what is its main purpose anyways?

I believe all he did was changing the resolution that the monitor cannot handle. Just go to safe mode, change the resolution to 640x480 or 800x600, and the refresh rate to the minimum.

yeahhh...the only modes you can choose in safe mode are the default modes. i set it down to 640X480. still get a black screen after the xp loading screen

if its my video card driver, if i went into safe mode and deleted my video card driver, rebooted and forced it to look for it again would that solve my problem?

When you're in Safe Mode, Windows only loads default drivers, so the only res you get is 640x480. Reinstall your video card drivers and see if that fixes it.

thank you for bringing that up, that was exactly my problem. reinstalled my vid card drivers, and bam, loaded right up. THANKS! Now i can go buy the matrix reloaded and quake III arena tomorrow like i originally planned, instead of buying a new hard drive to back crap up on. hehe. tho i do need a another hd since im starting to run low on this one. but that can come later now. thanks again, and thank you VZ for all your help too :) appreciate it as always
