Hello fellow sim racers. Quick question... I started my video game racing with GT1, have played them all since. In fact the only game I have for my PS3 is GT5. About 2 years ago I was introduced to Iracing and I love that, really fun. I can't play hardly as much as I want but still when I can.

Now my question is about consistency in lap times. In Iracing, while it takes me a bit longer to get used to tracks/cars, Once I get the feel of the car i can run off 20 consistent laps literally within two-tenth's of eachother, many times within 1-tenth of eachother for long periods of time.

In GT5 however I use the same method of starting off slow, and getting faster. I don't try and knock out fast laps right away, but like in Iracing's TT's, make sure I can knock out 8 good laps without running off or making mistakes before I start going faster. What really confuses me is when I'm pushing close to limit in GT5 I can hardly stay consistent. My spread will be generally three to four-tenths difference.

Why is it easier for me me to put really consistent lap times into Iracing while in GT5 I just can't? Is it a mind set thing?

There are many factors at play here, tire model and physics beign the bigest ones. On iRacing your tires will last like they would on real life while on GT5 they are made of plastic and will go off in no time! this contributes to what you're getting, there's also the physics. iRacings envelope is much narrower and rewards smooth driving while GT5 is much more forgiving and pretty much rewards crazy sideways slip angles wich in term leads to accelerated tire wear and slower times.
Hope this makes sense for you.

Yeah it does make sense a bit. One thing that has frustrated me about GT5 since I started playing Iracing is what you said, it doesn't seem to reward proper driving. I still think it's fun for what it is, but I dont' take it serious anymore. I was only asking because I was doing the GT Academy 2012 and really noticed it. I hadn't played GT5 in almost 6 months before that.
