The structure of this game makes it hard to imagine it being made for consoles.

Already a thread about this.

Assetto Corsa Possible PS4 Release(Edit: Maybe in the future)

I think it is very possible.
Anything is possible, the question is, is it likely? Not without the small team they have and certainly not without some major work being done to the game. Right now it's basically a free run/TT game with modding to dramatically enhance the base content, but console players expect a "game", which AC is not. And unless PCars has some huge missteps with their release on console, it's going to be awfully hard to present something to the public with enough of a substantial difference between the two games to garner enough sales to make it worthwhile.

It has the workings of a career mode that can be expanded as required.

In the link I posted - there is a photograph that Marco Massarutto posted on Facebook in the very first post.

There is no way on earth that he would deliberately compose the photograph like he did by accident.

Having said that, any PS4 development would have to wait until the PC version is complete enough to free up resources, and they are, as you've said, a small team.

The problem with porting it to consoles is that most of the content people actually play is user created mods, porting it to PS4 you lose that entire aspect of having a theoretically infinite track and car list and it becomes a stripped down sim that would be downright impossible to play on controllers.

The other issue with going to consoles is that this is a game best played with a wheel. The wheel really makes it come alive and is over the top immersive. Wheels are going to be very scarce on either console for a long time, maybe for the life of the console if nothing changes. Playing with a controller will make it not much different to Gran Turismo for the casual user and without the car and track list, I can't see it being too successful on the console.

No simvibe, no triple screens, no apps, no plug ins, no mods, no awesome peripherals. Console users would miss out on all the stuff that makes it next level. PC is the only option if you want that stuff (I couldnt go back now)

Rather Assetto Corsa stays on the PC. For me it would be weird to appear on a console. PC is best for it I rate.

It's interesting you should say that. Although the X1/PS4 will have no trouble at all handling AC. It certainly isn't as resource heavy as PCARS (or that's what I'm led to believe anyway).

Not so much resource wise but just my gut is just telling me it belongs on PC  Let it have its exclusivity if you will

It would be exactly the same game on console as on PC, it's just that PC sim racers are more interested in physics and FFB and less about flash and features, which seems to be what you need to attract console players. If it stays at only TM wheels on console, I'm guessing wheel penetration on PCars and GT7 on console will be significantly less than 5%, meaning very few people will ever get to experience all the wealth of subtleties that any game has to offer on console. Without that you're left with a battle of content and AC has less than 1/10th the content of GT6 for example, but for me it's 10x the game, simply because of how the cars feel and sound and how the physics work. I would not trade every single car in GT for one Ruf Yellowbird in AC:lol:

Don't know..., the physics are very demanding with a lot of cars on track, they need to do a lot of optimizations if they want to put it on a console.

The fact is that a high end PC has more computing and graphics firepower then either the PS4 or XOne. I am running Assetto Corsa at 4K at 60 fps. That cannot happen on the consoles.

I don't know whether AC will be ported to consoles. I do know that I will not be running AC on a console or any other sim for that matter.

Without even playing this game, I'm not so sure it would be the same if it were ported to consoles (especially since there is no wheel support for PS4).

Hmm... I don't think PC sims have reached the same audio character and depth as the Forza games. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thoughts?

I've never owned an XBox or played Forza. I'm not sure I've ever watched a Forza replay either:sly:

Oh you must my dear man, you MUST own Forza! Coming from your PC sim roots, you're going to tremendously enjoy Forza 4 and 5.

Remember, it's not a raw sim, but more of a car-celebrating game. You like trying out different cars with different tunes? You'll love Forza.

I can only get into one or two games at a time and I'll have my hands full with AC and PCars. And without wheel compatibility with the XBone, it wouldn't be quite the same. :ouch: If I hadn't gone the PC route, I would likely have switched to XBone:tup:👍. Forza and Forza Horizon + Project Cars sounds like a winning combination:cheers:.

I think there's 2 or 3 PC sims that sound better than Forza, particularly R3E which I'd say is about the best out there at the moment. That's not to say that Forza's sounds are bad however.

You mean that people with a lot of money can have better toys ? :)

I can not buy a computer, last time I bought one was last century. So 399$ for an octo-core with a decent gpu is still a good deal.

I wish I own my professional Xeon six cores + Gtx 970 :)

I can only imagine how AC would be with such a PC.

@Punknoodle is not making a pc elitist statement, he's saying that a great many of the things that make AC so wonderful will not be available on console and he's exactly right. Take away all the things on his list and it's a very barebones game on console and it would be ridiculed left, right and centre as such. It needs a crap ton of work to be even passable on console.

I know that Punknoodle is not bashing consoles and I agree that PC version on a _good_ PC will always offer more than the current consoles. But the PS4/XBO are some very capable machines so I think it can be nice for a lot of sim racers.

On the other hand there are people on consoles who want a more serious racer to race in leagues and who dont care for PC gaming or want triple screens, In this case the only thing missing is wheel compatibility. Obviously though its going to need to sell a few copies to make it worth kunos' time and effort and as you pointed out it needs more deph to it for comsoles.

We'll see what happens with Project Cars, which is far, far deeper and more feature complete than AC is at the moment. If it takes off then I'm sure AC will give some consideration to taking the leap.
