Continental Tire Challenge Series Information

Are we going to be allowed to switch tyre compounds mid-race like that or do we have to stick to what we start with?

I think I'll allow a change in tire compound. Opera Paris is a good track to test tire wear. It's a course surface with a lot of tight turns and even has a second of tire shredding brick. It eats front tires for breakfast and rear tires for lunch. Two pitstops will most likely be required for this race. Although, the BMW race had a Shelby Series 1 that was able to get 15 laps out of Soft tires. But, I wouldn't expect the same result as the cheating AI.

Smallhorses: I feel your pain. I would really love to see the ST class full of RWD AND FWDs, too. But as you may know, GT4's tire wear is wackier for front-drives. The Miata and BMW would outclass everything unless they had some sort of severe horsepower penalties.

I have no problem with changing tire compounds mid-race.

Super Shoulden: Actually, pit stops take the same amount of time whether 2 tires are changed or 4 are changed since there is a mechanic at all four wheels during pits. 💡

actually, if you change 4 tires, it takes about 24-25seconds. a two tire pitstop actually only takes about 13-14 seconds. you should try it and watch the timer.

The good news is, it doesn't look like you'll need to refuel on the 50mile laps. the 100miles laps will probably need a refueling towards the end, which will make for a longer pitstop (about 30second to fill an entire tank) but i don't think it'll be a problem.

You don't need to fill the entire tank. In fact, you want to keep the tank as empty as possible, so you should press the X button (which stops fueling but not tire changing) once you've calculated that you have enough.

I'm also very surprised to hear that changing two tires takes much less time. I had never noticed it before, so I'm fairly skeptical, and will test it when I get home, since you've now made me curious.

'kay, I will! :D

Man..so if this is true, it means FF cars could have an advantage over FRs, although I think the FRs would still dominate mostly.

When I did that race with the MINI at Autumn Ring, I only changed the front tires during both pit stops. The rears remained greenish for quite a long time. I think towards the end of the 27 laps they were finally turning yellow.

Yea, some of the ST class (especially my MINI) will probably be able to do the majority of these (if not all of them) with no refueling at all. I noticed during the 27 laps at Autumn Ring the MINI only used 3 bars of fuel, for instance. 💡

Yeah, the tire changers only change two tires at a time for some reason. So, when you have only two tires to change it takes a lot less time. (I think, in real racing, only two tires are allowed to be changed at a time, which is why it is that way in GT4)

This is waaay off-topic, but I'm really digging the menu music in Arcade! Don't know why....I find myself bopping my head when it comes on. I don't like the Sim mode music, though. Too slow and sleepy. Almost sounds like I'm at my grandma's house or something.

x0x

I'm about to do yet another race in the MINI at Autumn Ring. This time, I'll use full difficulty (tried 0, +5, and +7 so far). I'll pay attention to the guys in the pits this time....I've never had a reason to before, really, other than to get a bathroom break or something.

I've tried changing two tires, and it takes exactly as long as changing four. I have no idea where you noticed a difference, SuperShouden, but I sure didn't.

I did some testing on the Laguna Seca
Using the M3 and the Audi S4 did not have time to test the Z, these are the cars I am thinking of taking.
Set the tire wear to strong, the AI 8+ using soft compound (S3).
I fitted both cars with hard tires (S1)...
On the Audi I was starting to notice yellow tires by the end of lap 8, the back tires were still green (bright) This seemed like the easiest car to ride and seems like it had good speed all around. but by lap 6 (yellowish front tires)I was starting to go wide on the track, not sure if it was the tires (understeer) or I was just loosing concentration trying to go faster!!?
the M3 on the other hand did not feel as fast as the Audi, it seemed very sluggish and the tire wear was, as mentioned before, a little better than the Audi; but not by much.
On both cars it was impossible to catch any of the competition, Do you have any idea on what the AI will be yet?
I did not have a chance to check out the time on the pits, will check again tonight.

cheers

the AI difficulty will be +5. I've run three cars with this, and it seems just right. There might be a car or two that will beat you, they'll probably not lap you.

Tree'd by austin343 on the tire-changing part. 👍

Any idea how the mock-race is gonna be run yet, SS? I think you were mentioning something about a pre-race before the 'season' starts.

Also, are we required to run +5 races, or is there leeway? I have no preference either way, although I did smoke the Ai during the +5 at Autumn Ring like a phat blunt. Same goes with +7. last nite I tried a +10 and a +9, and managed 5th and 4th place respectively.

yeah the AI difficulty really depends on the track rather than where the slider is. I mean, at Apricot Hill in the LMS series, I got my butt handed to me by the AI. But at Laguna Seca, at least with the LMP car, I lapped everyone. I think staying with +5 is a good idea.

And I think, because of the LMS race and the fact that I still need to do a little more testing, that the start of the series will be pushed back a week. I like that anyway, 'cause while we're racing the CTC races, we only have to worry about Qualifying for LMS. and visa versa. It'll make things a lot simpler instead of having 5 races to do in one week.

I have a track in mind for the pre-season race, but I'll have to see if it's possible. There might not be a pitlane where I want to go. If not, I have another track in mind. Anyways, testing is almost done, and then the final rules and adjustments will be known. (I might give the S4 a little help. Not much more help, but just a nudge.)

Okay, that's fine.

Sounds cool to me.

Forced Pit Entry. Should we use it or not? I think we should because it makes a difference when entering the pits, and give the race a slightly more realistic feel since real-life cars also have rules regarding this..

Can't just fly in like a maniac with FPE on..(I tried this last nite at Fuji) the game'll penalize us and won't let us change tires or anything.

Plus if some of us use FPE but others don't, it'll cause some to have an advantage over others because they won't need to slow as much when entering pits, therefore their race time willl be shorter. So we should decide on this.

yes Forced Pit Entry will be on. This, by the way, opens the pits in Arcade Mode. I think, if you turn off penalties or use the limited speed, the pits aren't open.

I'm not sure about the speed limit, but the pits definately are open when Forced Entry is On or Off.

O/T you watching the VIR race today? :D I'm stoked. It's on Speed right now in case you're missing it.

yeah, I saw it. That was a pretty nasty crash. Five cars taken out. That's what REALLY happens when you spin out in the middle of the track.

Minis started on pole, but again had issues.

I think the Suntrust Camaro won. and the KIA Forte did awesomely as well. Looks like the new cars are getting their acts together.

Unfortunately, the new Dodge Challenger was once again absent from the race. I don't know what the problem is with those cars, but, I hope when they return, they're giving the Mustangs, BMWs and Camaros a run for their money.

I didn't know Dodge would also be in it! :dopey: Yea wonder what's taking them so long.

Actualy, the Rum Bum BMW won GS class with a Camaro GS-R in 2nd. BMW took third spot, too.

ST was won by one of those two Honda Civic Sis that led so long (the other had stop for fuel). A BMW 330 or 328 got 2nd place I think; may have run out of fuel. It was making some funny noises at the end.

Yeah, before the start of the season, there was a big deal about having the the three American Muscle cars in the CTC. It was supposed to be the 2010 Camaro, 2009/2010 Challenger and the 2010 Boss Mustang. There WAS supposed to be two Blackhole Challengers: a blue one and the yellow one. However, so far, only the yellow Challenger has appeared, and only for the first two races. During the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Challengers had transmission and engine issues. And there was a restart that showed the Challenger in the middle of the pack and it was quickly passed by everyone. I think the issue is tranny problems and it just might be underpowered. I would assume the team is working on getting it fixed.

But, most of the new teams are having their share of trouble. But congrats to the Camaros, BMW and Kias. All of them are new and they did exceptionally well.

Camaros got a 75 pound weight reduction approved, which is part of the reason the 2nd-place car was so persistent. A couple more laps and it would have caught the BMW for sure. A couple of Porsches were doing well in GS class for a while, too, even though they weren't running the bigger 3.8 engines.
