Just wondering others because mine is a little diffrent. I just cannot run the default.

Sorry if theres another thread like this. I did try searching but nothing came up.

R2- gas
L2- brake
R3 (flick up) to upshift
R3 (flick down) to downshift
L1 - look back
L3 - steer
R3 - windshield
Square - to view left
X - to view right
Circle - handbrake

R joystick down & directional button up: Brake
L2: Shift down
R2: Shift up
Circle: E-brake
Triangle: Reverse
Square: Left view
X: Right view
L joystick: steering
L1: Look back

Use it for all racing games & it's so perfect for drifting as I can have easier throttle control with joystick. Been using this setup since..... I can't remember :lol:

Sticks:
Left - steering
Right up - Gas

L2 - Handbrake
R1 - Gear Up
R2 - Brake

R1= Handbrake
L1= Look Back

X Button= Flash Highbeams
Square button= Horn
Triangle= Wipers
Circle= Toggle High/Low Beam

R3 (press)= Reverse
R3 (flick up)= Downshift
R3 (flick down)= Upshift
R3 (flick left and right (respectively))= Look Left/Look Right

L3 (Press)= Show RA menu
Up Button= RA Menu Scroll Up
Down Button= RA Menu Scroll Down
Right Button= RA increase adjustment value
Left Button= RA decrease adjustment value

Select Button= Change View (if nitrous is added in a future update, then this will be the button, but until then it shall remain viewfinder)

L3 up and L3 down are unmapped.

Been using this settup since GT1, when the first DS controller came out for PS1.

Right stick - gas and brakes.
Left stick - duh, steering.
L2 and R2 - shifting.
D pad left - left view.
D pad right - right view.

Everything else default. I know that some use R2 and L2 for gas and brakes, but to be honest, those buttons are nothing close to the precision that the stick gives you.

I have a G27, but when I drive with a DS3 I use this config:

X - Accelerate
Square - Brake
O - Handbrake
Triangle - Reverse

Left Stick - Steering
Right Stick - Look Left/Right

L1 - Rear View
R1 - Toggle/Flash Lights
L2 - Gear Down
R2 - Gear Up

L3 - Horn
R3 - RA Menu

Dpad - RA Menu navigation

I seem to be one of the few that prefers using the face buttons to the shoulder buttons for Accel/Brake. Dunno why but I can get really good precision from them.

Right stick - gas and brake
Left stick - steering
L1 and R1 - shifting.
D pad - RA setup
R2 - RA menu
L2 - look back
L3 - horn
R3 - flash light
X,[],O,A - default
sensitivity - 5
color - black:lol:

The possition is more natural and less stressful. Pulling the triggers for such delicate actions like braking and accelerating puts a lot of effort in your tendons, since not only you have to hold the controller with your fingers, but also perform these movements.

However, because of the way that you hold a controller, puts basically no stress to your thumbs and leaves them free to dedicate all the precision you need for gas and braking.

just an example, I can play GT for hours without feeling any pain in my hands or forearms. However, if I play games like GTA4, where gas and brakes are set to R2 and L2, my hands go numb after an hour or so. And not only that, but because of the effort you are doing, you put a lot of stress on the controller also.

Exactly. I'm always puzzled why some developers in this generation force R2 for gas and L2 for brake. These buttons are basically "secondary function" buttons. They're not meant to be pressed for a long time. Same thing for some shooting games that use R2 for shooting. When you hold the controller, your index fingers naturally rest in the small space between RI/L1 & R2/L2 but mostly covering the R1/L1 buttons (while the middle finger underneath the controller). For GT, using R2/L2 for shifting works perfectly because it's just a simple press & release.

I use-

X - gas
Square - brake
Triangle - reverse
O - hand brake
Directional buttons - steering
R2/L2 - shifting
R1 - change view
L1 - look back
Left stick - look left/right
Right stick - look left/right
Select - ghost on/off

Hmmmmmmm. I guess I'm the only person who actually steers with the d-pad, lol. And I put horn on up and down on the d-pad so I'm always randomly hitting the horn in the corners online.

But yeah I swear, D-Pad is the only thing I can steer with in racing video games. I HAVE A STEERING WHEEL TOO lol, I'm just WAY better with the d-pad. Analog stick? Forget it, I can't accurately countersteer with that thing at all in "realistic" racers. If I could show you my GT Academy times I would, all my best times were set with the d-pad, including the Route X one. My ranks aren't high or anything, top 3000 mostly, a couple a bit higher.

I actually stopped buying the EA NASCAR games, when that was my #1 favorite racing series last gen because when I DL'd the NACAR 2008 demo the day it came out it didn't have d-pad steering. And not to toot my own horn but in NASCAR 2005, 6 and 7 on PS2 I was top 50 in all 3 and wasn't on a team and NEVER running Tona or Dega, #1 on 2006 until I went to GT4 for a while until I got sick of the no online thing.

I'm the last D-Pad holdout.

@ OP and the other person with a similar setup.
I've been playing racing video games for as long as racing video games have existed. And I have NEVER thought of having shift up and down on the right stick? And since Motorstorm is my favorite arcade racing series of all time, I'm pretty good with L2 and R2 as gas and brakes, though I just never use that in GT.
I still use X for gas and SQUARE for brakes
O is e-brake and Triangle insta reverse.
Shift up is R1 and down is L1
But shift on the right stick and gas and brakes R2&L2 sounds VERY interesting to me. A bit of a revelation in fact if I'm comfortable with it when I try it out later tonight.

That's quite unique! Interesting, for sure.

^lmfao!

I've been using the pad like this since Gran Turismo HD Concept
L2 brake
R2 gas
Triangle Reverse
X gear down
Circle gear up
R1 Ebrake
Steer Left Stick

Thats all that really matters,
I always race bumper cam in TT's

Default. Right stick is gas and brake, left stick is steering. R2 is shift down and R2 is shift up.

I was using this for PS1 racing games, but in GT5 you need to be able to apply brakes and gas at the same time, so since prologue im using R2 as a brake. And it works fine. YOu might try it.

I play with DS2 attached to a USB converter, modified with a piece of tissue paper stuck inside between the rear casing and the electronic board for added padding. Call me stupid :ouch: ... but this somehow gave me a tighter feeling on the face buttons and the analog sticks .. it might just be in my head.

X Button= emergency brake
Square button= reverse gear
Triangle= brake
Circle= gas

R2= horn
L2= toggle high beam
R1= shift up
L1= shift down

R3 click= windshield wiper
R3 up = none
R3 down = none
R3 left / right = Look Left / Right

L3 click = RA menu
Up d pad = RA Up
Down d pad = RA Down
Right d pad = RA +
Left d pad = RA -

Select = Change View
Analog button = PS button

No look back assigned .... never need one, focus on the road ahead and use the mirror :)

Great thread....I've been using L2 and R2 for gas and break. My index fingers are in pain because of that. I will be switching to the stick. Thanks for the info

I use the default controller setting. I know that the right stick allows you to be a more precise with the gas but I 'm just more comfortable with the default settings.

I have found that this is the best way.

R2: gas
L2: Brake
R1: Up-shift
L1: Down-shift
Square: E-Brake
Circle: Change view
X: Look back
Triangle: reverse
Left stick: steer
Right stick: (left and right) look left or right.

The right stick, in options set look right as flicking the right stick right, left flick it left. I works well because when you turn the stick slightly, he turns his head slightly.;

No one's the same as me yet I don't think. I'm a drifter but race all the time as well, my setup is basically lifted from forza on a 360 controller, it's;

R2 - Accelerate
L2 - Brake

Triangle - Gear Up
Square - Gear Down
Circle - Reverse
X - Handbrake

Left Analogue : Steering
Right Analogue : Look Left/Right

For Lights I use L3 (click left analogue)
For Horn I use down in the D-Pad (easy to get to but avoids the accidental corner beeping some people have mentioned).
Wipers are R3.

Flash lights is R1 ( i sometimes even tape this down for replays! lol )
Look Back is L1.

I've been using this for years and would recommend it to anyone. Never had pain in my hands etc. and I drift/race for up to 8 hours a day lol!!

Yes, I use this to and it's great for eliminating blindspots.

R Analog Up - Gas
Down - Brake

R1-Handbrake
L1-Look Back

R2-Shift Up
L2-Shift Down

Triangle: Reverse
O: Manettino\RAA
Square: Wipers
X: Select RAA\Flash

Dpad for RAA.

This setup works best for me, as it is very efficient and practical for making on the fly BB adjustments as well as using the R1 for handbrake turns(mostly rally oriented) , its the best possible position when using RAnalog to control G\B.

The only downside is that it leaves no room for Look to be mapped, but ehhh, i use my ears and imagination and am very careful when racing side by side.

I don't find buttons for look left and right to be all that useful anyway, as they quickly cut to a 90-degree angle which takes your eyes completely off the road ahead. I wish it was more of a smooth pivot to 45 degrees.
