Hey, wazzuppp, I am new here and still exploring GT2 even though it's like a million years old now (well, I only got the game in March) and my question is about the '96 Corvette..and why the damn thing loves to understeer. Sometimes, it almost seems like you're going in slow-motion and it's still plowing towards the walls. I'm using super-soft tires up front, as well as in the rear (although I've tried using soft and mediums back there).

I feel all the 'Vettes have a tendency to understeer with their stock suspensions. However, I created a great setup (purely by luck) for the '96 Grand Sport with a full-race suspension, full LSD, and race mod.

But if you race them stock (normal), they are fairly difficult to drive.

Hey, thanks Pupik. I was trying to race in the GT2 World Cup for the first time (you know, the 5 races..5 laps each) and could have used an easier car than a Corvette, but I was challenging myself! Anyways, what I did was to crank the toe on the front wheels to +.20 , that was the main thing that cut back on much of the understeer. I also put the front camber to @ 3.5-3.9 depending on track, and had the springs at @ 10-13 up front, dampers at 6 or 7 (bound) and 4-5 (rebound) also depending on the track. But I really noticed the toe setting helped a lot. It's odd, too: usually toe doesn't seem to do much. I guess when you have a full racing car with downforce and stuff it matters a lot more!

iuno. i do not find understeer in vettes, they are nicely balanced. but then again, i am the type that loves to race stock cars. race suspension just makes all your cars handle like you want them to, i dont see the individuality in them anymore.

undefinedWell that's interesting. I know in real life Corvettes are balanced pretty good (weight distribution of @ 50/50 for the Grand Sport) but still you have to figure that the engine is still large and this translates in Gran Turismo as a lot of weight on the front wheels when braking.

My experience was that I was braking well before turns, but then when I would go into that turn, the Corvette wasn't turning...and then I'd have to tap the brakes again...and it still was heading towards the wall or grass! I was losing all this speed till I discovered the toe setting.

have you got your racing line figured out? i guess since ive been at this game for so long and studied racing dynamics, i just adapted to it. ye, toe settings are super useful to, but they compromise balance.

I've only been racing GT2 since March or something, so I'm not as good as you are about racing lines, but I know Trail Mountain very well, and I was racing the GT 2 international World Cup for the first time..I wasn't prepared for how much tougher it is than other portions of the game. For instance, I breezed thru all the Nationals and other parts of the game...it all seemed way too easy, till I got to the World Cup...you really need to know what you're doing and not make any mistakes at all in these 5 races! And I chose a Corvette which is probably a difficult car to drive in these races, huh?

Yes, it is tough to race those ones. Running a stock car turned race car isnt easy. No compromise type racing. Bettter stick with those LM race cars or 4wd, for now.

Yeah, you're right...sometimes I do things the hard way. Obviously a 4-wheel drive Skyline or something will be an easier win than a tempermental Corvette. Like I said..GT2 has been all too easy for me till now, so I welcomed the challenge! I only won the Trail Mountain and Midfield races, though. Coulda won at Apricot and Rome, but I messed up too much.

practise and tune. time trial, get the racing line set down. then tune the car so it suits how you like to drive. but then again, when the pressure of other cars is on you, its hard to keep your line without losing concentration by trying to beat the other cars, especially if they run as fast or faster than you. frustrating.

I think I'm gonna try a GT40 next. I was test racing it today on an empty Trail Mountain track and was getting the settings dialed in pretty good. It's amazing how much more the suspension settings can get all messed up with just the slightest of changes, but I'm getting it good! Doing the World Cup took me 5 hours last week with that Corvette. I wrote all my settings down, too, which I haven't done since GT1. Usually, I don't write **** down, man, not till now!!

Yea.......i used to spend time like that wen i was reall serious, i did time trial over and over, then moved on to track 2, then w/e till i optimized the settings for each track. then i would compromise here or there, and make the car good on any track. *sigh, so much wasted time..... But now im off to blasting muscle cars down the 1/4, man gota lov the noise of the 67 vette or HEMI! cuda! lol.

**** i can't beleive you ****ing can't ****ing swear on ****ing here, what ****.

if a car's being excessively twitcy, i find the simplest global change you can make is the just soften it up a bit, will cost you grip, but can make the car a lot easier to drive.

Thanx Oxygen GSR. By the way, I raced the GT40 and won all 5 of the World Cup series. **** yeah! Trail Mountain was the toughest...the car is so lightweight that it kept bouncing around, but I managed to squeak a win just at the end by out-maneuvering the Toyota GT-1 thru that last chicane. All the other races were easier...at Rome I won by a margin of like 4 or 5 seconds. I figured Rome would be the hardest track, too!

I must say I love muscle cars, too...my fave is the '67 Cougar fully tuned. It's a bear to handle but if you can get the LSD set up and learn not to give it too much gas too early it's a lot of fun, man. I also love the 'Cuda. Haven't tried the Roadrunner or GTX yet..they're on the list, though.
