It's confusing. Despite the badging, the car is actually the Viper GT2. And I agree that's it's an awesome car. Modern day equal would be the ACR-X. Though neither car is in GT5, they can be replicated with a trip to the tuning shop. I'm going to try that next time I play. There should also be a Viper Cup in the online section of this site.

'Vette all the way. Although I've never driven a Viper IRL, the countless ones I've driven in games for the last 10 years have always handled like a wet, heavy brick. Besides, I've been a Chevy guy at heart ever since I built my first hot rod almost 30 years ago...a '77 Camaro. :)

But... My GT5 ACR is pretty fun to toss around if no real corners are involved. And to be honest, I've always liked the Ford GT... a little. But I'll deny that in court of course. :D

@GT Motion - I want your friends. Must be rough. :)

The GT is WAY better on a track than a viper and is very close to a vette but due to a mid engine it is much better around corners. In a 1/4 mile I lean towards the viper because it is a tad heavier and doesn't spin the tires as much as a GT or zr1 but in a longer race over 1 mile the GT is the best being the only one that can beat the Veyron 16.4

Viper most certainly! The ACR handles great and is more powerful than the Ford and the SRT Viper is more powerful than the Ford and Chevy (not to mention it looks better too)

I hope that Im not the only one who disaggrees with you.

A Dodge Viper... the best looking car ever made...???

Hm, I prefer the Ford GT because I`m a huge GT40 fan. IMO it looks like a real racing machine and not like what I would call a poser car (ZR1, 458, Gallardo).

Actually, I love all type of cars, so I would have no problems with a Viper and Corvette in GT5 either.

Edit:
Just imagine a Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car with a Gulf livery... :)

That would be the Ford GT LM Race car, buddy.
On topic: I'd chose the Viper. The ACR is the only 1 of the 3 that can reach 1000 HP, I think.

Viper

Just looks good. Memorable when it came out. Obviously it was the daddy in the first GT game too. GTS with blue with white stripes and the low slung RT10.

Ford GT - Not original. Like an Old band reforming to pay off the ex-wife. The original 60's GT40, much more like it.

Corvette - I like the shape of the old Coke Bottle 3rd evolution shape. But it is a 2nd division sports car.

All three are good, for American cars.

As my avatar and PSN ID may suggest, it's Viper for me. It's my favourite car although I prefer European cars to Americans.
I love the Viper dressed in blue with white stripes. Specially the first/second gen and the fifth gen.

Viper due to it's V10 and performance. After rotaries, V10s are my second favourite engine's type, as I just love it's exhaust note.
And (according to wiki) this car currently holds the 4th fastest "production, street-legal" time in the 'Ring.
That says quite a bit about how well it performs.

Well lets see Vette for me. It is Americas sports car and been around for 60 years. FGT is not being produced anymore so if it is so great wouldn't they be still making them?

Both the Viper and FGT have not won at Le Mans in years so Corvette is the only true sports car for America.

I'd take the GT over anything today, especially the Ford GTX1 & the superformance gt40mkii. Think about it, it's the only North American vehicle to stomp the pesky Europeans on their own soil for 4 years in a row at Le Mans, plus it's one of the only mid-engine ranged vehicles that North America has to offer. It's also one of the only vehicles Tiff got an adrenaline rush off of just from sitting at idle with it on Fifth Gear, and Clarkson said his life was complete after driving around the old Top gear test track in an old gt40.

Haven't really heard them say anything that's remotely close to what the GT offers in terms of driving experience and heritage. Clarkson couldn't stop babling about the poor quality of the vette series. (Poor seatbelt strapping, plastic rearbumper and plates, horrid road trip capability).

Also, when you see a mustang, camaro, viper or vette in the streets or in movies, sure you think it'd be nice to drive or own in ideal conditions, but once you hear the GT trumbling down the streets and you see it in the classic mark iv red with white stripes. You gotta admit, it's an experience unlike any other that it turns heads and catches a lot of attention, especially when you see it obscurely in movies or t.v. commercials. (atleast for me) you can't help but tell your friends that that's a GT.

That is why I love the Ford....

Edit: I misunderstood the question. I thought we were talking about real life...

For GT5, I'd still go with the ford GT spec ll tester, and then the recent Gt with the gulf livery. The GT's need a certain tuning to perfect, they don't need to be RM'd to the moon with the downforce all the way up to be called a good car. Hell, just about any car with full DF can handle well. It's the one's you open up and let loose that have the most character, and for me, the GT delivers that feeling in spades. It's like the zonda R, you need to thread the needle and feather the gas through turns to get it right, not like a GT-R and just go full boar through turns.

Turn down the DF, play with the gears a little bit, open up the differential, turn off the technological aids (yes the ABS too) and slap on some racing mediums and you'd be suprised at how fun/scarey the car is at times...

I still can't believe some of you still hold on to the Viper being a straightline only car when for the past 20 years its been running with or destroying the best in the world at racetracks all around the world. How many more track records, more top echelon cars it has to beat before this untrue stigma is expunged?

Anyway I like all three. They are all world class performers but the ACR owns them all on tracks in real life. In GT5 the ACR is not a real one as it doesn't have the factory adjustable aero front and rear so it doesnt mimic the ACR exactly in game. Though the ACR is faster than them both in real life I'd have to pick the ZR1 as its handling programming is the best IMHO.

In real life its the ACR and Oreca Viper hands down for me. But in GT5 its the ZR1 and ZR1 RM hands down due to the programming.

I'm going with the Vette, with the GT in close second. I just love a sense of heritage behind a car. The Vette's been with us for 60 years (some awesome, some...not so awesome), and the GT has of course its father the GT40, so they both reign top for me.

That being said, I do also love the Viper, but I'm more of a Vette guy.

Well lets see Vette for me. It is Americas sports car and been around for 60 years. FGT is not being produced anymore so if it is so great wouldn't they be still making them?

That's kinda some stupid reasoning about the GT. It was created to coincide with Ford's 100th anniversary, revived to run along with Ford's then running retro-styled Thunderbird and the upcoming 2005 Mustang. It was a tribute that was made in limited numbers, I guess to make a sense of speciality amongst others.

Not because it was a bad car.

I own all three. In this order with these tunes. Its all about the tune. Heavy on the AdrenaTuned Viper. It is a Beast. Faster than ZR1 RM and handles just as well with the AdrenaTune

Dodge Viper gts-r Team Oreca Race Car #51 - 1. AdrenaTune

Zr1 RM - 1. Praiano Tune, 2.Avid Racing Factory Tune

GT 40 Spec II Race Car - 1. Praiano Tune, 2.Avid Racing Factory Tune

I would have the Viper as currently Dodge is 'owned' by Ferrari, an Italian company, and French people have... Erm... Views on American things.

Said the French person.
