I just found this ESPN's contest, http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=whosnow/070611 ,wherein fans can nominate their fave athlete of any sports,I see the list no fighter from MMA has nominated yet. I thought to myself Randy Couture would be a good nominee. He's a UFC champ and a legend too! He should be on the list too.imo

Look at the list, there's no boxers.

And boxing is a much more approved sport than UFC...

Besides, the list is very US-oriented. Despite Ronaldinho being in it, there's no Fernando Alonso, or Lewis Hamilton, or Felipe Massa. There's only two football players.

But seriously, they can't take anything away from MMA athletes. These athletes pretty much put their lives on the line in the ring and their training is far superior compared to any other sport. I think top MMA fighter like Randy Couture should be considered for top athlete too.

its not fair to other sports to say mma training is any harder. More complex? yes. There's just soo much to learn Striking, wrestling and submitions= tons of techniques and transitions to memorize. Football is probably more physically taxing on average than mma, boxer's probably get more brain damage on average. etc.

I agree with Fedor too. But the best sports story of the year hands down is Randy Couture coming out of retirement to claim the heavyweight belt at 43 years of age..Awesome!
