Havent found any thread like this in search but just wanted to say good luck to all my fellow Queensland, Australia Gran Turismo fans with the terrible floods at the moment.

My thoughts are with any GTP members who may have friends or family affected by these floods. The news this morning from Toowoomba is scarcely believable...

So far there are 9 people confirmed dead and over 70 reported missing. Many towns and suburbs in Brisbane have been evacuated as they expect a massive rise tomorrow from dam overflow and tides, as well as the water coming down from Toowoomba. I went to work and was only there half a day before we decided to shut up and get our butts home, except I could not get home due to flash flooding and stayed at my Aunty's place all afternoon. Small_Fryz is most likely in deep 🤬 along with Punknoodle, so my thoughts go out to them, as well as any other GTP users and folks affected by the floods, especially those who have lost loved ones.:(

Fryz said he'd be ok as he is on high ground, well, at least I hope that holds true :scared:

Those pics from Toowoomba were nuts. Looked like cars bobbing around in a bathtube.

It's all quite scary. I think a few of my good friends flew out to Brisbane yesterday, so I hope they'll be alright. The heavy downpore is supposed to make its way down to NSW within the next couple of days, so hopefully my mum and I don't get caught out on our drive back to Adelaide on Thursday/Friday. The flood plains looked wet enough on our drive up here a little over a week ago!

Im safe 👍

But all the roads in low(er) lying areas are cut. Truly is phenomenal how much water is around!!!. And the thing is, its going to take a few days to "peak". Every time i watch the news the projections are getting bigger and bigger. Still wont get me or my house but man.. so many wont be as fortunate..

I hope everyone else is safe too 👍

Bloody hell, Anna Bligh hasn't taken a rest since I checked TV and lunch time and 8pm. She has been standing at Kedron all day :D. I have family at Gympie, there other house is flooded but not the one they currently live in. The house that is underwater is a low and large property which goes under all the time :(.

The images I saw from Toowoomba were incredible. The cars flying around everywhere was so worrying, inland tsunami fit the disaster quite well. CBD and Ipswich expected to flood worse than 74 is always a great worry. I live near Redcliffe and never get flooded, I just get a whole lot of water outside my house :D.

Good luck all and lets see what happens.

The water catchment area in Marburg, normally a dry field almost a kilometre across, is now a massive lake. I do believe some residents there were choppered out this afternoon. It truly is all crazy.

Watching some of the video of this tradegdy is overwhelming. Reminds me so much of New Orleans and the floods down the Mississippi over the last few years here in the states. Plucking scared people off of rooftops and out of harm. My prayers are with you'all.

Reading further about it, seems that this disaster will have profound effects down the line. The barrier reef is set to receive all this warm fresh water, which can take awhile for the coral to rebound (if it can). Also, 2/3 of the countries' coal mines are down, which will have massive effects to the world's steel markets (AUS produces roughly 1/2 of the worlds coking coal, primary for making steel). Economists estimate the GDP of AUS (2.7) may dip 0.5% because of this. That's huge!

Hopefully the nations of the world will spring into action and help soon. The US usually does, but I haven't read anything yet. We're broke, but that normally doesn't prevent us from providing some kind of aid. (we all got credit cards). Sorry, just some humor.

Some pretty amazing pictures.

Wow Casio :(. Its so sad to see stuff like that. The image of the guy carrying the kangaroo makes me feel the same as when I see pictures of poor countries.

This image is a real shocker to me though (I am not surpsrised though). I used to ride my bike along what was the path every weekend with a few mates:

The city still has a lot more to go, expected peak of 5.5 tomorrow early morning (4am). Good luck everyone.

Casio

Damn, I was hungry

That's some really bad stuff guys. My thoughts with everyone affected by it. Shows that nature can completely destroy a MEDC's city.

Thats crazy... :( I hope the best for everyone.

Insurance companies will be adding to the floods with their tears.

Oh and Jack, good luck with the drive home, careful with the dipper, it's a doozy. :P

The toll is now twelve. Brisban river predicted peak is 5.5m for all of tomorow. If anybody is in the CBD and surrounding areas good luck we wish you all the best.

Here is a vid of what what seen the other day in Toowoomba, QLD.

And if you google maps 'Repco near Toowoomba, Queensland'
Click on A street view
Head in an Easterly direction, you will see the little creek, that became the torrent.

My thoughts are put to all that are effected by this force of mother nature.

Terrible news. It's so scary seeing pictures like those, as if there isn't any life.

Thoughts are with the families affected by the flooding..

Channel Seven sure let all of Australia know what is going to happen to Brisbane. The flood levels are going to rise higher than in 1974.

Lord Mayor just said the river peak has been revised from 5.5m to 5.2m, which if i heard right means 5000 less homes will get affected. It is a wierd feeling knowing this is all happening with what is now blue skies around.

And now channel 9 are saying a cyclone could be forming in the Coral Sea around Australia Day.

The media certainly grabbed hold of this and milked it for all it's worth. Toowoomba was bad but Ipswich and the CBD are graduuuaaalllyyyy going under. It's bad sure but it's not life threatening. Cue dramatic music from channel 7 with dire reports of king tides and an inflated prediction of river peaks.

Anes I agree the media have grabbed the ball and run with it. But river peaks aren't made by the media. The lord mayor & state premier both saying the same peaks which apparently have come from hydrologists. But I guess time will tell. And 12 people have lost there lives so far from this weather.

Yeah what I meant about the peaks was as soon as the media heard the peaks were predicted to set a record the media splashed it all over the place. Totally irresponsible imo because it can cause panic.

Yes completely agree Anes. But that's typical of the media. Yesterday was the worst I think. Getting home was a nightmare.

Compeltely disagree Anes. What do you want the media to do, talk about the cricket? When people have already died as a direct result of flooding, scores of people have been washed away by flash floods elsewhere in the state, and thousands of people face the prospect of having their homes either submerged or even destroyed, it is hardly panic-mongering to report the facts about how high and when these rivers are likely to peak. Also Anes, your assessment that "It's bad sure but it's not life threatening" is breath-takingly ignorant.

Ok

How's the Aus media going over there in Scotland? Keeping warm? They've been replaying the same images over and over with cliche music for 10 hours a day trying to out sob the other stations. I must have seen that repco footage 300 times by now but the flood water is almost completely gone from Toowoomba yet they keep fear mongering by showing that footage when they're talking about Brisbane.

Also Anes, your assessment that "It's bad sure but it's not life threatening" is breath-takingly ignorant.

In Toowoomba it was sure. I said that it was bad but the waters around Ipswich and Brisbane are moving slower then an old man lowering himself into a hot bath. Anyone who can't get away from that with 2 days notice must struggle to feed themselves every day.

Oh and I live half an hour away from Ipswich...

It may seem so but despite logic, many people stay in their homes and other dangerous areas. what they are trying to do is show people not to leave it late and to not be ashamed to leave their houses to save themselves, not just from the flooding but from the prospect of getting cut off from other people and places to get food.

Both Queensland Raceway and Lakeside Raceway have been effected by the flooding. Queensland Raceway was due for re-paving at the end of the month but will now take place in November, at the earliest.

I spent abit of time today taking photos abour Brisbane, mainly kangaroo Point and Story Bridge. Truley gut renching watching peoples livelihoods washed out to Mortein Bay.

My office is currently underwater and will be a number of days till we can even gain access, let alone start working again. Hundreds and Thousands of dollars of stock will be lost. Let alone the damage to the building.

I encourage any foreigners reading this thread to donate, even the smallest amount will make a difference.

I don't think when the designers of Lakeside Raceway were naming their track, that they had ever thought the track would become an actual lake.

Hmm, this call for intermediates or full wets?

Given the amount of reconstruction Queensland and areas will need I doubt the circuit would be repaved at all this year, rescources better used on more pressing issues.
