I recently discovered this curious little corner of Gran Turismo online Lobby racing, named 'CurryWurst'.

Public lobby races, 1 lap of the Nordschleife, in vehicles build to very specific criteria, (200kw (269bph) max power, 1130kg (2491lbs) minimum weight, and Sports tires (usual SS only sometimes SS & SM)). With such narrow specs the racing is surprisingly close, in a wide variety of cars, and (generally) very clean and fair, a nice change from the pushy unpleasantness of ‘Sport’ races.

These races seem popular, as there appear to be ‘CurryVWurst’ lobbies opened by many different users, with at least 1 open at anyone time during evenings and weekends.

Does anyone know how theses started, where the name comes from (I'm guessing after a popular snack at the Nurburgring?), and how the specs evolved?

Having raced these lobbies for the last few weeks, I often see many of the same names in regular attendance.
Following a bit of internet searching, and finding nothing, it occurred to me there doesn’t appear to be any community groups in any of the usual places (GTPlanet.net, Discord, Reddit, etc) where regulars or casuals meet/chat outside of the lobbies. Therefore, I thought I'd post this thread, perhaps as a starting point for ‘CurryWursters’ to meet, say ‘Hi’, share tunes and setups and, chat about the races etc.

So if you’re a 'Wurster',

Hello…

@ekceZ @Revo 54, Hello, Guten Tag! I’ve seen you both in the lobbies, nice to meet you.
Hopefully this is the beginning of the Wursters on GTPlanet! 🥳

Does anyone have any good tips for building fast cars for these races? I’m building through trial and error, but can’t find any ‘formula’ so far, for building a quick car. Some just seem naturally quick, whereas others, despite trying different turbo’s, ECU and power restrictor combinations, and low drag settings, are 10-20kph slower along Dottinger Hohe straight!! 😭

Present with my M3 😁

I just started playing Gt again, after many years of absence; as a Ring enthusiast, I immediately started looking for lobbies that only competed on the Nordschleife and fortunately from the first day I found this lobby and never left it. Almost every night I connect to take a few rides in company. I thank all the participants in the lobby who allow me to have fun every day, I'm never afraid that someone will dab me because we are all very correct and fast, it happens of course, but it's never intentional. Thank you CurryWurst members!

I also have difficulties with the speed of cars, often the same car with a few modifications manages to gain a lot of speed, but not having time and desire to try, slowly and looking at the others you will see that you begin to understand and, when in doubt, ask for help in the chat.
There are some cars that are extremely fast if you use long gears, others that need the medium turbo rather than the high engine speed, others that you don't have to modify the engine etc etc.. it's not easy and above all "natural" but this is GT.
I enjoy racing with my favorite cars in real life, maybe not the fastest, but after dozens of laps every car can improve a lot.

See you on the track

I'm a bit of the initiator of the CurryVWurst Lobby
About the history of the lobby:
It all started with a small group that wanted to drive cleanly and with respect.
We started with 450 pp and 140kw 990 kg. The rules were always agreed in the community to get as many cars as possible into the lobby.
It continued through many updates and vehicle adjustments, the conditions of the lobbies had to be adjusted again and again.
480pp; 140kw/520pp 150kw/540pp; 180KW/ 560KW; 200kw/570pp; 200KW
We tried to get a large number of vehicles into the lobbies to have a change.
The history of the name:
CurryVWurst Lobby : because I am an employee of a large automotive company and there is a separate hall with sausage production in addition to cars. And the currywurst ketchup is made according to a secret recipe.
The VW currywurst is available every day in our company restaurants. It even has its own part number.
In 2023, over 8 million curry sausages were sold.
You can also find currywurst stickers in GT7.

Thanks again to all visitors of the CurryVWurst Lobby, without you none of this would be possible.

If you copy and host the lobby, you should always make sure that it is driven fairly and with respect.

I have been running with the Currywurst crowd almost from the beginning. I am 60 and have been playing Gran Turismo since GT1. I used to run in the online lobbies but stopped for a long time because of the bumper-car mentality. I finally decided to give the online lobbies a try again and I found Fisherstom's room. Originally it was mostly he and his German friends, but it wasn't exclusive and they welcomed me to join them. There might have been 10 of us at the start, but as other people joined us we developed a group of regulars, and now as you know it has grown into a small community of players. One small tip on tuning cars: it's all about the power to weight ratio, but not just horsepower. You want decent torque as well because there are alot of turns and one long uphill climb.

@fisherstom, Wow. It’s good to hear the origins, thank you.
I’m very much enjoying the CurryVWurst lobbies and the clean racing, so much so that I can’t be bothered with ‘Sport’ races any longer.

I used to TT the Nordschleife A LOT, back in the day, when it first arrived in GT (3 or 4?) and my friends and I used to get together with our PS2’s on a LAN so we could race each other.
Fast forward 18 years, we bought our kids a PS5 for Christmas, and I felt the Nordschleife calling me once again! 😂

Not sure how others feel, but I’m happy to share my cars & setups on here for others to use, to help encourage good racing and a wide variety of cars.

me too!
been playing GT since the beginning in the 90s (I'm 50). Since GT5 with wheel (T500). I enjoyed the 500PP SS Streetcars-Lobbys @ 24h Nurburgring for many many hours (maybe someone can remeber these lobbys). GT6 was also great, but in GTsport I lost my ambitions and I spent my free time with other things. Now I fortunately found the CurryVWurst-Lobby, wich is very similar to the old 500PP-lobbys in GT5/6 and I'm enjoying the Game again. A wheel-upgrade to DD+ gave me another kick and I feel the urge to chase the seconds on the Nordschleife again.
Thanks to the initiators!

The good thing about this format is that you can have great races without having to be online at a specific time. You can come and go as you please.

Every time I travel to Berlin I go to a CurryWurst in purple and now every time I turn on Gt7 I just want CurryVWurst lobby!

Hi @swaytec, nice to make your acquaintance. I‘ve seen you in quite a few lobbies. I say seen, but only from a distance, you are much faster than me, and usually way off in the distance! 😂

I totally agree, it’s great that there are lobbies open most evenings and weekends, so you can dip-in for a race or whole evening, depending on how you feel and how much time you have.

See you at the ring!

Yes! Now I remember your nickname!! It was a situation very similar to the CurryVWurst lobby..

It continued through many updates and vehicle adjustments, the conditions of the lobbies had to be adjusted again and again.
480pp; 140kw/520pp 150kw/540pp; 180KW/ 560KW; 200kw/570pp; 200KW..
Next settings to try are: 580 pp 230kv 1300kg. I find that with these limits cars have a behavior more similar to reality, maybe still a little too grip, I would be curious one day to know what other guys think..

Anyway, since this topic exists, I have trouble finding a place in the room 😅
See you on Nordschleife! 👋🏻

@kito16 I had another go at setting up the M3 ‘03. Not sure how it compares to yours, but it felt pretty good to me. I can’t get it to the top speed of my fastest CurryWurst cars, but it handles very nicely, so made time in the bends. I might experiment with lower downforce to see how that changes things. (Edit: Tried Front 45 Rear 141, but lap time was almost identical, speed gained on straights was lost in fast bends.)
One thing I have learnt when doing these builds is, Rear diffusers cost about 10PP, but aren’t needed at CurryWurst specs, and replacing the wheels is around 6PP, even if the size, width and offset aren’t changed! I’d rather use that PP on better brakes…

Standard Wheels, Front Spitter B, Side Skirt A, Rear Standard, Wing Custom Mid.

@Akers The BMW M3 is the car that gives me the most driving pleasure. I only choose cars that I like and that are enjoyable in driving, if they are not the fastest it doesn't matter..
I advise you to eliminate aerodynamics at minimum, stock engine, also try to change the weight distribution by trying 48:62. Camber 3 3, antiroll 5/6 or 6/7 (this is what I remember).

A few tips for setup:
To save points, don't use a diffuser and only try to install brakes if it can't be avoided.
A differential always screws your points down.
Some cars can also be driven with standard suspension (saves points).
A lot can also be adjusted with the wings to save points. Always set so much that the car is still safe on the road.
Test your car in the Custom Race (Brand Cup), come to the lobby when you have tried everything, you should not be satisfied ask the community there.
Play with the weight distribution, you will often be surprised how the car behaves

Thanks for the tips @fisherstom and @kito16. This is just the sort of information sharing I was hoping to encourage with this thread, thus enabling us all to build more closely competitive cars.

Another oddity I found, fitting a 'Fully Customisable Manual Gearbox' often reduces the PP for a lot of cars, but not all.
Similarly, for some cars Fully Custom Suspension can increase PP by over 10 points, but for some others only 2-3PP. Weird!
