Custom gear ratios in next update

Kaz just confirmed on twitter that the next update will have more adjustable gear ratios. As well as this there will also be a fix for save game being over the memory limit problem.

Better lap times? Better speed at certain corners of the track?

Basically each individual gear will be adjustable allowing players to tune the car more to their taste. It probably will lead to better lap times. Keeping the ratios longer in low ratios will help to reduce wheelspin and in higher gears you can use them to keep the car in the correct powerband more effectively.

Will anyone else admit they aren't confident in getting an advantage by tuning gear ratios?

I understand the final drive, but tuning individual gear ratios, I can say this update will introduce a potential rce advantage I will not be able to make use of.

I hope fine tuning the gear ratios doesnt give people a huge advantage.

Hmmm, I think that is not much of an issue. People will learn how to tune their own ratios eventually. I must confess I almost never touched that in GT4, but having the option is a good thing. Just trust the good people at the tuning sub-forums and you'll be a pro at it in no time

The gearing was an important 'must have' for me.

I tend to tune my gears for certain corners, for example at Suzuka I would have 2nd for the hairpin and 4th for the section before Dunlop. So I guess it helps a bit.

I just wish the would give the option of changing the final drive ratio in the differential itself, without having to do a whole gearbox swap.
Would make it whole lot more realistic and would get rid of the god awful whine that comes with racing gearboxes!

Yer i don't fully understand individual gear ratios, was happy enough with final drive but I'm sure this will be the next level for some tuners. I still don't understand fully customisable differential LOL

It is like all the aspects of the tuning with in the game if you spend a little bit of time finding out what it does and how it has an impact on the car and how it drives you will see the rewards, personally gearing tuning made up for a lot of my rubbish abitity to tuning in other areas. yeah the fast guys will get faster, but they deserve to if they can tune a car to get 5 sec a lap more than me they deserve it. they have probably spent hundreds of hours working out their setups for different car and have formulas that they just look at a new car and applyto it.

I used a few of your tunes for GT5 Prologue, they were awesome:tup:

You really notice the tunes that have had time put into their ratios.

The F40 was a totally different animal (in a good way) when it had its ratios tuned.
