Racing in top split at Sardegna has been really fun! Had some good races in the Corvette with @GT5Power and @Lost Sheltie.
People aren’t divebombing or punting as much, and I worked together with an Aston for a few laps.
@GT5Power I’ve got a few questions about tires if you don’t mind? This seems like a slipstream race, so I assume starting on mediums is good? I’ve only been starting on softs, but my tires are dead by lap 5. I’m not killing the tires in any specific way, just driving as fast and smooth as I can. Is this true for you too, and is it better to do a 5S/5M? Tire saving would probably get me out of the slip. BB+1 btw.

I am doing 4M/6S in the Corvette

Had a couple of weird penalties at DTS II yesterday. Led a pack into the COD and there was carnage in front of us, yellow flag but the cars that had crashed were ghosted. I got 3 secs for overtaking under yellow but not entirely sure what I was supposed to do short of stopping and letting everyone behind go past. No one else seemed to get the penalty.

And then when I served it just before the main straight I unghosted and someone rams right into the back of me. Another 2 second penalty which seemed really harsh. It's a very wide straight and I didn't swerve.

Of course I forgot to save the replay:boggled:

My biggest annoyance with the current system..
Brake checkers quite often get away with it, but innocent actions like this always seem to get punished. Moving off the racing line can help as often they won't follow you, although sometimes it feels like you shouldn't have to penalise yourself more..
There should be a ~1/2s "grace" period when you come out of ghosting, where you shouldn't get a collision penalty if someone rear ends you (Assuming you're not hard on the brakes).

I got overtaking under yellow a few times in race C last week due to folks plebbing the pit entrance. There isn't a lot you can do about that one imo. You either slow down, everyone passes you or you carry on, get the penalty and everyone passes you. Screwed either way due to other folks mistakes.

With the ghosting one I am not sure if this is right or not but I think it's because the game thinks you are brake checking, while ignoring your recent ghost status. As you say harsh and not a lot you can do about that one either.

Yes it was a strange one, I was hard to the left and on full throttle (no point in doing anything else it's such along straight), you would think the game would know i wasn't brake checking if my input is full throttle (even thought I'm not actually at full throttle due to the penalty).

Finished my week on a good note last night - 3 races, 2 podiums. First race I started and finished 9th, Second race I started 4th, and at turn 1 of lap 10 I missed my braking point by about half a car length and punted the leader in the sand. Super pissed at myself as I had closed the gap from 2 seconds and had been on his tail for two laps waiting for a mistake and had a really fun race to that point. The deserved 3sec penalty put me back to second. Last race started from 3rd, but with a far quicker driver on pole. Ended up having a really good fight for second (but coming second in the battle) with the guy that inherited the win in the previous race, about an hour behind first place.
By the end of the week I was running a total clean race time of 19:40-19:45, with my finishing position dictated by the lobby - I spent most of the week starting and finishing 6th-9th.

Sardegna is a great combo. I’m running the Vantage and have 2 wins from 5 races. I’ve only had one remotely dirty incident at T1 lap 2, and even that might have been a simple missed braking point.

The Vantage will do a 7s3m pretty confortably. You can even squeeze an 8s2m in a pinch. There’s an interesting mix of cars in each race and the leaderboard has everything from DBR9s to Huracans to McLaren GTRs to Jags.

It’s restored my faith in the game (for now):gtpflag:

Increasing number of McLaren F1's in the EMEA B/S lobbies. I see them struggling towards the end though. Probably good for qualfying
The ones I’ve seen in race haven’t had good pace. I think they’ll fly in clean air, but they get swallowed up through the turns and once they’re in traffic the straight line speed is worthless. Along with the Vantage, the Nissan GTR, Corvette and AMG GT are all very capable. Haven’t come across a Mustang or an F-Type yet.

I have been running the Corvette in race C this morning and doing ok with it, 5th, 6th & 7th place finishes starting 12th or so. The racing seems to still be dirty but the damage isn't as unrecoverable because of the barriers on this track. After the first lap or so everyone spreads out a bit more than last week so I have managed to avoid the worst of it so far.

If I can avoid the dirty and just keep racing I hope I will have a much happier week than I had last week.

I am in the Vette so far but fot overtakennand outraced by a Mustang before. I couldn't pass cleanly even though he was being side swiped by a known dirty driver in a McLaren.
So I hung behind waiting for an opening, then the McLaren took it self out and before I could capitalise on it the Mustang took off. i hung with him but couldn't get closer.

I have to say I’m gonna miss Autopolis gr4. Last night was some of the most fun racing...The Stang was working brilliantly, and in my last race I used the Hyundai to good effect as well. It was all sunshine lollipops and complimenting each other after every race. Saw some top players, just great fun... These races now...
We will see. Just looking at the combos, it’s nothing I’m good at.

You should try Sadegna. There's a few replays on my profile in game id you want to see how it is now
RBR in Gr 4 with no penalties is not something I long for... But I might try A later on.

General rule for me is that you don't start on the softer compound if you're below upper midpack or so (I've even seen people starting on the harder compound from pole lately). Traffic will always lose you time regardless of your pace which means you're wasting the softs early on. The stint lengths I usually go for are 3M/7S, 2M/8S is doable too but only if you want to undercut a bunch of people. BB wise I'd say 0 or -1 would be better because the Vette wears the rears quite a bit on acceleration zones. :)

I’m at work the next 2 days, so I won’t get to the daily’s until Wednesday. Abe that’s FIA day, so I’ll have to spend some time there as well. My work schedule sucks some times.

sardegna has never been a track that I was good at. But I’m determined to get better at them.

need to make a USA alt for ram fest races like B this week. Save my Yard_Sale acct for FIA

Jesus H Christ this RBR GR.4 Race makes BTCC racing look clean. Dive bomb city an no pens, only time some seems to get penalty is for the ole dreaded Turn 1, other than that it’s door to door ramming you off track. Utter joke.
I was really looking forward to this race because I love the track. Would you suggest going for stability over speed?

Jump in to Sardegna straight after work expecting to be starting bottom half.

Thankfully my 1:40.7 quali in the Supra had me starting 7th (just ahead of the death zone!)

Nearly get taken by a Corvette on the first corner of the race but manage to stay ahead and pass a Vantage that binned it at the next sequence of corners.
Overtake a McLaren F1 at the sharp left at the end of the straight, then the next two cars bin themselves at the start of the next lap and I’m up to 3rd.

By this point I’m just shocked I haven’t been punted or made a catastrophic error!

Then the next McLaren overdoes it in to T1 and I’m 2nd, the nerves start to creep in.

Not sure if I’ve ever won a race C before, I started on the softs and I manage to stretch them to 6 laps.
The leader pits end of lap 5, my in lap isn’t the best and I’m expecting him to sail past.

But no! I come out about a second in front thanks to him having an altercation on his out lap.

Some nerves came in around lap 9 but I manage to hold on for what is probably my most impressive win online on GT Sport (there’s only been 10 of them so it’s not difficult to pick!)

Restored some faith in the game and some confidence as Autopolis last week was an absolute s#&*show for me!

Maybe I’ll just race Daily Races on a Monday from now on :cheers::gtpflag:

Well the RCZ is the Don, can’t keep with its acceleration at all with anything else in the class. It’s a FWD Fest an let’s be fair FWD cars are always stable. The TT feels very much a safe bet but for me, struggles to get into the low 35’s, whereby I’m doing 34:9’s an low 35’s consistently with the RCZ. Scirocco looked competitive this morning also though, around the same pace as the TT I guess.

It was pretty brutal. I do not see how this current system is sustainable. I ran mid-pack today and it was very rough at Race B/Gr4/RBR. Received my second pit maneuver today - just did not see it coming.

Grats on the good win. Yes, due to work I can only do a few races in the evening and thus I do well on a Monday but fall down the pack during the week. Le Mans seemed to be an exception due to the length of the track and my steady lap keeping me ahead of most of the idiots.

Today was a sandwich with a bad race filling.

Race A. This is a lot of fun. First lap of practice I was drifting a bit but then got my eye in on lap 2 and got progressively quicker. Was 7th on the grid. Forgot to put TCS on for the start. I was slow but there was no issues with my start. Lost a place but gained 2 into turn 1 for a net gain of 1. Passed another serving a penalty a lap later. Lap 3 the Swiss guy in a MR2 also had a penalty. This only got me alongside into BBB. I held it to pull out ahead. He then went up the inside for the right after the esses. I cut back beautifully and then pulled a slight gap. Thankfully he raced well and wasn't tempted to send it from miles back. The Ukrainian ahead had made an error coming out of BBB on the last lap. Unfortunately I couldn't get underneath him as he started to swing back across the track. The contact set him straight and I wasn't able to take advantage and crossed the line 5th. However for some reason the Ukrainian quit early and this put him last so he gave me a position for free and I ended up 4th. Good race with the Swiss.

Race B. Seemed to be The FF's Strike Back at RBR. I went against the grain in my F-Type. Qualified 15th. Made good progress as they started to batter each other ahead. Was up to 11th when disaster struck. I received a tap midway through turn 4. This was enough to nudge my back tyre into the gravel and around I went. And an extra spin as my tyres ended in the grass on the inside after hitting the barrier. DFL but 1 and that is where I stayed to end up 15th. Got a few penalties going through Rindt as the car seemed to understeer there. Will need to work on that.

Race C. I like this track. Surprised I qualified 6th on the grid in my Vantage. Seemed to be a decent mix of around 5 cars though more F1's than anything else. Held position through the first few turns. A Hungarian ahead dived a Greek and he obviously wasn't too happy. In the uphill fast left towards the end the Greek went up the inside of the Hungarian. He spun and the Greek got a penalty. Into turn 1 the Hungarian got close in his F1. I knew what was coming and I broke normally and he slid wide into the gravel. The front 2 were fighting. Apt for a Portuguese and Spanish drivers. I passed the 3rd placed DBR9 in the penultimate corner. However he pitted that lap. I stayed out with the guy in 1st to get a clean lap in. It worked as I came out a second or so ahead the next lap. The Portuguese driver hit a German who hadn't pit hard and copped a 3 second penalty giving me the lead. However on warmer tyres the DBR9 passed me into turn 1. I perhaps gave too much space on the outside for him. The Spaniard who was in 2nd also caught me and passed me. He did clip a barrier and slowed towards the end of the lap but he blocked me. Naughty. But he was quicker and battled the car in first whilst I watched. Apart from that move any side by side action I had with them both was fair and clean. The Spaniard was a bit aggressive though and the DBR9 didn't like it at the end of the race. Crossed the line for a good podium in 3rd.

Looks a fun week.

Had good fun last week with Race A. Manage two wins that were gifted to me by abusive driver. Also spend a lot of time in Race C. Split my driving time between the Hyundai and the Ferrari. Race mid-pack for the most part with some lucky top 5 finish. During the week-end I decided to go with the Renault to no good result. It didn't feel like THE car to drive. It drive well but maybe I did not put enough time in it compared to the rest of the field.

Race A looks to be interesting this week. I don't usually get time to play on monday, but i might have to try and get a couple laps in on this one today. I just hope the cars are a bit more even than what we normally get

Yeah, Race A is fun. Tried the Clio today, will try the MR2 tomorrow. Hope to see you there sometimes this week! :gtpflag:

That feeling when you watch a tigney track guide video with the title dirtiest race I have seen in a while and wish your races were as clean as those shown. I mean no one was blatently punted, driven into the pit wall, repeatedly blocked or anything like that which seem to be a regular part of my level of racing.

Still I have had some good races too and managed to snag a 2nd place in race C with the Corvette. Was sweet as I crossed the line in 3rd and the guy in front of me did the weaving across the finish line thing only to be hit with the 60 second tyre penalty so second place thank you very much.

Hope I can keep avoiding the carnage to get more races like that one.

You are on to something!

Wins are a rare beast for me but one can create a MONDAY-ADVANTAGE! I tried an experiment over two of the previous Sunday's (Spa and RBR). Based on the "Next week" races I picked my best combo then did some practices laps. For the first race (00:10 Monday morning PST) I hopped on as soon as the 15-minute pre-race window opened and banked some QT laps.

The first race is the only race where the field is even for qualifying. No one can rely on 25-hotlap sessions in search of the best time. It is all dependent on what you can lay down in the 15 minute pre-race window. The edge or advantage is to practice before that first quali session.

I ran two races at each combo (four races total). Result: one pole, one race win and and two additional podiums.

Then I went to bed.
