The No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet piloted by Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have a new look for this weekend’s activities at Talladega Superspeedway. The usually red No. 8 will be predominantly black with white lettering and silver and red stripes in honor of the life and brilliant career of the late Dale Earnhardt.

The paint scheme mimics the design the elder Earnhardt made famous in his career while driving for Richard Childress Racing in the Cup Series and Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) in the Busch Series. Ten of Earnhardt’s 76 career wins came at Talladega – more than any other driver. His son, Dale Jr., is second in all-time Nextel Cup victories at Talladega with five, including a record four-in-a-row for DEI between October 2001 to April 2003.

The elder Earnhardt will be inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at Talladega Thursday evening, and Saturday, April 29th would have been his 55th birthday. Among the most memorable of Earnhardt’s 10 victories at Talladega was the last of his 76 career victories, where he came from 18th place with five laps remaining to take the win in October 2000.

Anheuser-Busch and the Busch family had a personal and business relationship with Dale Earnhardt for many years, promoting the Busch brand. Earnhardt won the first-ever race run under the “Busch Series” name in 1982 at Daytona.

It's beautiful...

Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaawwwwwww! How about those particular apples!!!!

Damn, that looks awesome. God, I can't belive how much I have missed that color scheme untill I've seen it again. It kinda brings a tear to my eye...

When I first seen the title for this thread, I thought it would be a deal with Dale Jr. and AC/DC or whomever did "Back in Black" (remember, I'm not a rock music fanatic like 40% of the world, so how do I know?). Would daddy (Dale Earnhardt Sr.) be proud? Can you imagine the black #3 alongside this black #8? It would have been one of the sweetest deals in NASCAR. Almost makes you wish Dale Sr. was around much longer. Daddy Earnhardt would be proud.

This is a great tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. even though I am not much of a Dale Jr. fan like 65% of America.

That's so beautiful. It reminds me of the sole reason I ever watched or attended a Nascar race. I think I might watch just because of that paint scheme.

Kinda off topic, but I saw a '94 Monte Carlo here in town with that same exact paint scheme, but the correct number. I should have taken a picture and posted it in the questionable mods thread.

Whoa, now that looks nice, and so much better than the traditional red that Jr runs.
Hell, if it was me, I would insist to keep that paint scheme.

Very good looking car. It will be nice to see the black and silver again, if only for a weekend...

how ironic is this? The Black and silver #29 of Kevin harvick is on a roll with two wins in a row and suddenly, the colors black and silver and Earnhardt are back together again. that is very awesome. if possible, that should be the new colors of the #8.

How much do you want to bet NASCAR gives him "The Call" this weekend? ;)

Even if/when that happens, I'll still watch this weekend and will probably be cheering like mad. I have been a fan of "Big E" all my life. As I had a family member on his RCR crew from back in the day, Earnhardt was my first racing hero. Even when I got older, grew a brain and dismissed NASCAR as contrived rubbish, he still remained one of my favorites, because he wasn't like the rest of the sponsor-spewing, turn-your-coke/pepsi-bottle-so-the-logo-faces-the-camera-before-you-take-a-drink PC corporate robots. He was a throwback to the days when you raced HARD, didn't "play nice" and if you didn't win, you didn't p!ss and moan about it.

This new livery on the Budweiser car certainly gets my attention. I look forward to seeing at the front of the field.

P.S.: As for any Earnhardt Sr./Jr. deals, I would love to have seen them in a black/silver Corvette at Le Mans. And from what I've read, Sr. wanted to do Le Mans and possibly the ALMS after he retired from NASCAR.

Dang, its nice to see a black car driven by an Earnhardt again.
JR hasnt been doing that good this season( the major acception is bristol, Holy jesus that was a hell of a run-almost last to the top ten!) I think that would be pretty cool if they played back in black at the begining of the race, insted of DW sayin "bogady bogady bogady bogady!!!112" at the start.

god need a driver

DEI still needs to improve if they want to fight for the championship, but at least they're doing better this year compared to last year. Dale Jr. is currently 7th in points. He's doing much better this year.

...They have been talking about running this paint scheme for several years, even having Jr. take Sr.'s number... I'd like to see it happen full time, but it probably won't, a shame really...

EDIT: I was looking through some old stuff of mine, and I came across a kit car for Sr.'s 2001 Season... Creeepy...

oddly enough, two of my 1:18 models have #3 and have ironically, the colors Black and Silver. weird:nervous:

its as if in some freaky way, something is going to happen.

...Well I was refering to the fact I had a 2001 kit that I bought just before Dale Sr.'s death at Daytona that year. I completely forgot that I had bought the kit untill I was cleaning up my room... I thought it was kina creepy, kina in the same way that you would say find a movie ticket you had in an old jacket from September 11, 2001... Just kina odd/creepy...

Heh.

It's about time the silver-and-black came back. Maybe Jr.'s not as big an Oakland Raiders fan like Hendrick is?

man that was exciting! and to think without his teammate near him, Martin fought off the RCR cars, the Hendrick Cars and the Roush Cars by himself.

I want to see Junior make this his full time paint scheme. They could have gone horribly wrong with this, but instead they came up with a gem. I love it.

I doubt Budweiser would go along with that.

I personally feel that the paint schemes of the greats should be retired when the drivers do (save for the occasional tribute). I was a bit perplexed that the #43 didn't change when Richard Petty retired; it was just weird knowing that he wasn't behind the wheel of that blue STP-sponsored car.

I believe they ran #44 for a year or two after Petty retired.

Too bad about that engine failure. I was just sure (hoping) he'd come back and win the thing after that spin. When he won a few years ago, he had way more damage than he sustained in that spin.
