Damage = caution periods, pit windows & restarts?

I was just thinking about this (yes, I've done a search). With the introduction of damage & 16 players, will it be possible that we will get caution periods, open & closed pits, as well as restarts?

Think about it. Just having damage has been done before. But having damage & being able to limp back to the pits to have repairs done under yellow would add a lot of realism.

Not to mention the fact that restarts will play a big role in endurance races and most especially, NASCAR.

That way the prospect of damage not only affects the racer who crashes, but every one else on the grid if the crash is big enough to warrant a full course yellow. It will add a whole new tension knowing that your lead could be wiped out by a yellow at any time during the race.

Thoughts?

Well the Time Trial demo does hint at flags (green and yellow at least), so that might mean something for the final game.

Well I have to agree with arvin charles as flags are a big part of a motor race and thats what PD are trying to recreate

With the inclusion of private lobbies and the ability to set up your own private races with hopefuly an infinite amount of laps, I'm sure we will see those features that you mentioned 👍

There most probably won't be restarts because it would waste a lot of time. You might be able to limp back to the pits to get repairs though. If the car is too damaged then your race should be over.

Imagine you're doing the 24h of Le Mans (or Daytona or Nurburgring). The guy in 1st place has a huge lead on you. It starts to rain in hour 22. 2 cars crash & causes a yellow.

It becomes a whole different race if there was a restart...

Damage & crashes will play a bigger role as it affects everyone when it tightens up the field.

I don't see that as a waste of time.

The average GT race is something like 2-5 laps, so I really can't see it becomming a useful part of that. At least I hope it doesn't become a big part of that.

But for all the longer races out there--and I hope there are ways to create a number of those--flags would be a really nice option to have when setting up a game.

I think it would be a great addition, I've hoped for these features in GT since GT2.

Also reaperman, I don't know how common that is.. each race I do is 10-30 laps usually, I think controller users will race less laps on average though, I know I used to before my G27.

I think thats a different problem with the game. I hate those short races because you can't do qualifying unless it is a tournament/championship, and you always have to start at the back. If you are in a competitive car, it is really difficult to get to the front in 2-3 laps, so in order to win, you usually have to use a better car than the competition, and then the races aren't as fun. I think it would be great if more races were in the 10-20 lap range, as well as more. Besides, who ever heard of a 2 lap race in Real Life?

Qualifying! I had almost forgot about that aspect! - since there was none in Prologue. I really hope this is in for at least online mode in GT5.

I quite like the challenge of working my way through the pack in offline, but online really needs qualifying IMHO.

on top of that it would add a new element to pit strategy. in the same scenario your dilemma would be 1. do i stay out and wait for a caution to change tires, lose a little time but a greater chance of staying in front or 2. do i pit now, lose track position, and risk the yellow coming out and everyone else pits under yellow for fresh tires.

on a smaller track where you could lose a lap pitting under green the choice is even harder.

I want the same rules as in real life relevant to each different motorsport discipline within the game

Imagine you banged a car and your bumper fell off. Your car is now understeering since you lost most of your front downforce. You decide it would be better to enter the pits instead to get a repair. As you pull in, the pit crew is waiting with a bumper in hands and clip it in as you stop. One side of it however can't be fixed because of the damage the chassis took and the bumper shatters as you drive out of the pits.

THAT WOULD BE ******* EPIC!!!

Now that would be a raceday

Maybe in GT10 in the PS5, but it would be the REAL driving simulator.

That is a very good point. If this were to happen, it would take talent, a good strategy and a little bit of luck to win.

Guys, full course yellow flags are a nuisance in real life that destroy good driving by the leaders up until that moment, but are nowadays considered a necessity, if the road is blocked and cannot be cleaned without slowing down the field. This has no application in a game like GT. How many times did you experience the road being blocked in GT so far...? I would also be furious, if I'm building a lead and 2 AI-cars crash and my lead is reduced to nothing.

Yellow flags as indication that something occurred somewhere on the road immediately ahead of you, now that's a totally different thing. You have to be prepared to brake and are not allowed to overtake. That makes a lot of sense. But, please, no safety cars or full course yellows!

I do know what you mean. I would live full course yellows and safety cars, I think it would be awesome, but not on every race. I really hope it's at least an option so we can have some real races online, full length and everything. Would be awesome.
