Damn this Prius seasonal event is a pain in the behind

The car actually requires you to be smooth when you drive it. However when i mean smooth I only mean when your in the lower revs, keep throttle imputs very controlled up to the point where your on full throttle and the "charge" meter thing is all white NOT red. You will be much faster when the car is in white "charge"
You could probably win with very few mods. Tyres would be the only neccesity to change.

I put on Sports Soft tyres (not racing soft - they are too good to make the race challenging and fun), upgraded the ECU and the air filter, after that I dived straight in and won on my third try :)

I did the same and it only took me 2 attempts.

I must be misremembering this race because I think I just put on sport soft and won...

Yep, pretty much this except I did stage 1 weight reduction and a racing air filter as well. I found it very easy - I was in first by start of lap 4...

I just managed to gold it with 120hp on sports hard tyres with no assists. Best I could do with a stock Prius was 5th. Once you can get 1:25.xxx laptimes, you're golden.

Even with all the negative press the Prius gets here, I did enjoy this race.

I didn't have a problem with the event, but I hated driving the car. You can't even buy a customizable transmission for the damn thing so you can shift. It was misery. I was glad to be done with it.

Add some power - you don't have to do all the power-adding mods - and CUT THE WEIGHT. Put on soft racing tires ($36,000).
I'm a hack as a driver, and I had first place on the second lap, and never looked back. Slicks, minimum weight, and about 120hp will do it. I didn't even touch any of the adjustments, nor did I do any adjustable suspension, trans, etc. Get in, get out, and win quick. And make more money than you spend on that POS car. :)

you crazy??!? sports hard is all you need! costing $30,000 less. the AI have comfort-medium, so there is atleast a gap of one level of softness. add race-air filter, racing chip and sports-catalytic IF you still cant win. all they cost are 450+1000+500=$1950 and you should be win with atleast a 3 seconds lead. if not read this thread word for word, post by post a few thousand times

Yeah, I may be crazy. I tend to forget that others are still trying to accumulate cash. Racing softs are no doubt overkill.

I won a Prius from somewhere, so I only sports soft tyres?

EDIT: I just won, with DS3, heres how:

Prius G
Manual gears
Everything off, ABS 1
Sports soft tyres
Racing air filter (cause its cheap)
Sports Catalytic converter (same reason)

Its quite simple, just slip stream the cars and you overtake

I am so much in love with this car. The sound is just awesome, and the handling... OMG! Now I truly hope there will be a 24h endurance event with the Prius.

Does anyone remember the economy challenge with the Prius? It was in Gran Turismo Concept 2002:Tokyo-Geneva if I'm not mistaken. If my memory serves me right, you had to do a couple of laps (or was it only one?) on Tsukuba within a specific time limit and a maximum fuel consumption. So you could either lose it by welding the loud pedal to the floor and screwing up the economy, or by going so slow that you use little fuel, but don't make it in time. The right balance was the key and the only way to gold the event.

That would be a worthwile challenge and at least one reason to have cars with good fuel economy in the game.

After some of the comments here I've put soft racing tires on it and changed the oil, without any aids (not even ABS) I managed to get the first place in the third or fourth (pretty sure it was the third) lap. With a DS3, in cockpit view, HUD off.

And I'm anything but a good driver.

I liked this race because it was funny. My brother watched me race, and he knows I love racing various LMP and other prototype race cars, so when he watched me race a Prius he just had to comment.

"The fastest driver in GT5...In the slowest Toyota known to man...So many stories! Only one victor! Who will run out of patience first? Only God knows..."

You scare me. What would a 24H Prius event entail? A half-dozen laps of the 'Ring? :D

Getting to the hairpin on the Grand Valley East circuit takes forever as it does in a Prius...Don't want to find out how long it takes for it to reach Karussel (spelling?)

You should be able to walk the field in racing tires. You can get first on sports tires and little else, really. The question is how little you can do and still win. I think it could be doable on comfort softs and maybe an oil change.

Don't know if this happened to anyone else, but if you do it on AT (which I thought was the only option) there is no brake indicator.

 Funny race....but fun, none the less.
Yep, I upgraded the ECU and the air filter, added "sport" softs, then threw a sport tail-pipe on.....:yuck: Sounded unbelievably awful....Not needed either, was an easy race gaining #1 by lap 4.

Side-note 1
Just completed all 5 challenges with ease....none of them require big mods, I did however, fit "racing" softs to the other 4 cars. ;)

There's no brake indicator for all the "one gear cars", same with the Kart, wouldn't make sense anyway.

Tried the race with stock settings, managed to grab 4th after learning not to be heavy with the braking...

Then changed the oil, added a natty set of sports wheels on (black alloys on a red Prius) and upgraded to Sports Medium tyres... managed to overtake the leader just before the tunnel on the last lap.

I would race with only an oil change and stock parts for a few times to see where i stand. Then upgrade parts minimally as needed. Change to sports medium or soft should be sufficient.

I got it first time. Since it takes a while to rev up again, go easy on the brakes, and try to keep the rev's up as high as possible. Pure logic realy. :P

Yup. Just did it on Sports Softs and an air filter. Took first in the tunnel on Lap 4. There should be only two places where you need to either brake or lift: the hairpin, and the sharp left going into the tunnel. Everywhere else you can just keep the throttle nailed. You'll use some of the kerbs doing this, but you'll stay on track, not cut corners, and not hit anyone else. Totally doable.

This is an example of where left foot braking can be very beneficial, for those of you who don't do it and/or don't think it should be done.

Tapping the brakes without getting out of the throttle will allow you to drop the speed without killing your revs.

Yes!

I set my DS3 up with the typical X=gas, ☐=brake setup, but then added the R1=gas/L1=brake trigger setup just for "left-foot" (or "left-finger") braking. I did that at the suggestion of someone here, for which I'm thankful to them!

Takes a little getting used to - mostly in just learning to gently tap the trigger, not squeeze and hold - but it definitely helps. It's also a great help in long sweepers where you need to bleed off a little speed mid-curve, but you don't want to really lift, or nail the brakes.

Incorrect. The combustion engine works in parallel with the electric motor to drive the car. This is actually simulated....when you run out of battery power in GT5 (usually on the second lap in this event) you can hear the 4 cylinder (or is it three?) work much harder.

Were you doing the don't let off the accelerator when braking thing?

My battery power was still at max when I finished the race.
The Battery charged every time the brakes were pressed.

This game amazes me.
Changing your tires compound adds more benefit than adding HP upgrades.

some people on here never cease to amaze me.

did you ever see the top gear episode with the ferrari fxx running slicks and how much faster it was than a veyron

on topic, i won it easily with racing med's
