im kinda confused on some results i have came up with after doing some damper testing. it started out when i was testing RKM's 787b tune. he had the dampers set to all 1's, and surprisingly it shaved seconds off my lap time. so i decided to apply this damper setting to the rest of my cars and i got the same result. shaved seconds off my lap times. i was wondering if anyone would like to test this out besides me and let me know what you come up with. if not a brief explanation explaining why i got the results i did would be great.

was it a bumpy track? if yes, then soft dampers are your friends. Also, think about the weight of the car you are driving, vs. the weight of many other cars out there.

well ive had good progress on every track. i usually do my tuning and test runs at grand valley speedway. anyways thanks for your reply

Very interesting. Grand Valley is a pretty smooth track, so its not obvious soft dampers should be good (unless you're using a lot of curbs).

Would you mind sharing your springs and ARB settings. Normally I think the springs and dampers should be set in the same region, ie soft springs with soft dampers. If for examples you were running soft springs and hard dampers, make the dampers closer to the springs could be the reason

ya thats why i was confused. i felt the cars cornered alot better with 1 dampers. this also worked great for my R34 and R33.

rx7 spirit r type a '02

ride height -20-20
spring rate 16.0 15.0
dampers ext 1 1
dampers com 1 1
anti roll 7 7
camber 1.5 1.5
toe angle 0.00 0.00

thats my current setup. i got the spring rate and ride height from the real life endless rx7.

Soft dampers can have a grip advantage. But the downside can be uncontrollable weight movement in the car. Now with your tune you have -20 right height, very stiff springs and anti roll, so there will be not much movement in the car.

I liked soft dampers for a while too. But at tracks like Nordschleife there will be simply too much movement in the car. So I'm back at harder dampers. If everything else is right, harder dampers are just as quick.
