Saaaay..Has anyone seen the Nissan URGE concept? It was built by listening to young people, seeing what they wanted in a car.

They wanted a performance car, not the "Social" cars like the Scion xB. so the URGE looks like a scaled-up Caterham. and drives like one. it's a small high-revving.....Front-engine, rear-drive.....car, designed not only to be fast and cool...but affordable, too.

Make it a sexy coupe, call it a 240Z, and sell a million. (Also, re-name the 350Z a 350ZX.)

the big thing, here, is that Nissan Knows what the young marketplace wants. So I wouldn't worry about "Wrong Wheel Drive," at least in a high-performance model.

Last I herd, Nissan doesn't have any plans to build the Urge whatsoever. Sorry to rain on your parade guys, but Goshen (sp?) doesn't have it to build a car like that right now. Of course, you would say "But it would sell really well!" and to that I would say "Think of the development costs, and consider how long it would be untill we have a production version. By that time, you might not want a 2+1 sports car..."

So Mr. Clarkson, they should be taking market surveys from 13 year-olds in order to have "their" car ready for them when they're at the right age? Don't think so. They are targeting the youth generation, regardless of how many pass by in the time it takes to produce it.

You may say that trends come and pass and the need for a 2+1 coupe would pass as well, but then the same would apply to any consumer survey ever. There will always be a gap between the consumer surveys and final production. This is why there are other kind sof market surveysa nd predictions.

It is Carlos Ghosn, BTW.

There are NO affordable RWD Coupes on the market.

The first company to get their heads out of the "Kids like FWD crap" train of thought will win a lot of market share and loyalty.

So, Mazda, right? Man, if GM hadn't been so stupid they would have released the Saturn Sky as a coupe.

Actually, if they made it sit on the FM platform, the dev. costs would be next to nothing. The FM has more or less already been paid for, and the only problem would be making it a shape that would actually sell. They could put the Sentra SER Spec-V motor in it and sell it like that. It would basically then be like a Solstice coupe.

If Mazda would release a Miata Coupe and make it less expensive than the Convertible, it would sell like hot cakes.

If the RX-8 could be had with a 4 banger for less than $20k, it would sell like hot cakes.

Mazda is close, but they aren't hitting the mark.

If they would make a Solstice Coupe, or Chevy Kappa Coupe for LESS than the Vert, it will be a hit with young guys with disposable income. Doesn't matter if it's stripped down to basics to make it cheap, they will be buying it to work on anyways.

God, that would be sweet. How about that new sports car, I think they named it "Kabura"? I wonder if that car's more affordable than RX-8. I think that car's looks is right up there with RX-8, if not better.

No sign yet of the Kabura being built, but if they can price it at or below the Miata it's a winner to me and lots of other enthusiasts.

Currently, if you want a non-WWD car, you have to buy used, or pay around $25k+.

I wouldn't mind if Nissan brought the Sentra under the Datsun name and continued the formula they had with the B12-B15 SE-R's.

To compete with the FRS/BRZ, etc........Datsun Silvia/200SX/240SX.....that is all.

A Qashqow?

Looks more Micra-based to me, and the source article says it uses new and old Micra suspension bits.

The price is the neat thing though. I can't see how such a thing wouldn't sell in Western markets - yeah, we like our gadgets and stuff, but a ~$5,300 brand new car is impressive however badge-snobby you are.

Interesting vehicle, interesting brand choice. Nissan is already diving around in the bargain basement here in the US with the Versa siblings, I can't see this being a multi-market effort outside of the developing world.

We'll see long term. If Mitsubishi can be successful with something as cheap as the Mirage in the US, we could see more itty-bitty, cheap plastic, bare-bones cars showing up.

The Datsun Go looks like Nissan took the Micra and made it about 5 times worse. It should really have been called the Datsun Stop.

Really? To my eyes this thing looks much better than the slightly blobby Micra. The interior seems clever too, for the market it's aimed at.

Though I suppose you needed some way to intro that joke you've been working on for presumably a week or so.

Not sure I can understand the general apathy here. If it wore anything other than the Datsun name would people be so concerned that a sub-$7k subcompact destined for the Indian market wasn't overly exciting?

New Datsun sedan? Sedan version of the Go, maybe?

From LeftLaneNews.com,

A new Nissan sedan prototype has been caught undisguised in Russia during cold weather testing. Though unnamed, it is likely the next addition to Nissan's low-cost Datsun brand for developing nations.

According to the Russian website Wroom, the new sedan appears to be based on the Lada Granta. The Granta, along with its hatchback sibling the Kalina, was co-developed by AvtoVAZ and Renault. The Renault-Nissan Alliance owns a 25 percent stake in the Russian car company, and is rumored to be considering a full takeover of AvtoVAZ's parent company Lada later this year.

The front-engined, front-wheel-drive compact would likely share the 1.6-liter four-banger found in the Granta. Measuring 168 inches long by 67 inches wide and 59 inches tall, it's about the size of a Toyota Yaris sedan.

The design is a bit more upscale than the Lada Granta. Its front fascia is dominated by a wide version of Datsun's trademark hexagonal grille, supplemented by lower air intake scoops that are somewhat sportier than what one would normally find in this segment. The rear deck, likewise, has just a hint of spoiler molded into the trunklid and a strip of chrome trim to set it apart from its competition.

The unnamed sedan would be the third model in the revived Datsun brand's portfolio, joining the GO hatchback and GO+ wagon released last year.

Same thing happened with Suzuki Swifts in India as well, its obvious for the indian market they are making the cars much cheaper then other markets so they can sell for less.

Also the main reason for this is because they sell versions with No Airbags in India, even the VW polo got Zero stars.
