Daytona International Speedway PP800 - xx:00 / :12 / :24 / :36 : / 48 :

I've just raced my first online races at Daytona because I needed a break from the punters at Fuji. I'm pleased to say that this race is genuinely pretty tough. Also, very few hack drivers! I learned the hard way that there's no wall riding of any sort, because the one time I tapped it in a turn I got a penalty and went skidding sideways into the dirt, lol. I gotta say that wrecking here is pretty darn fun. I like not winning every time, but your performance certainly depends on your start position if you're consistent. I also learned that the order seems to depend on your PP. Hmm. I lowered it one point on the Z06 and bam, I started 4 places aheadof usual and did it three times. Nice! I can usually catch up to fourth or third from tenth.

This has been a fun event for me despite my general dislike of the update. The fact that so many different cars are competitive makes it a lot of fun. I've been running just about anything I can tweak to 600pp and staying competitive in most of them. But, for me, if I want to be sure of having the greatest possible chance of victory, I have to go with the Elise 111R tuned. It just seems to work best for me during an actual race, even though it isn't my fastest during testing (that would be the Ford GT LM if I remember correctly.)

I was messing around with the 599 this morning and i got to thinking. (scary i know right) The NASCAR guys this is what they do. Race full bodied cars on ovals. so what do i remember them talking about as far as suspension set up? Cant really compare there daytona set ups as the rear suspension is set by nascar so what about say Michigan, i remeber them talking about running huge rear springs and a relatively soft front. This kept the cars attitude right in the corner. So i applied this to the 599 and wow it works! i got the rear ride hight maxed, the front down just a little and alot of rear spring and dampening, almost nothing up front and it goes like stink. it dosnt enter the turn quite as good as id like but its not bad by any means, it exits the turns very well, and it seams to respond better and better the faster i go.

Anyway for those of you that like this course give it a shot watch you're replays during free run and concentrate on getting the nose down and the rear up in the corner. i pretty much did the same thing with the viper and after i switched to S3's (thanks for that little tip ravenmaven) it ran very well.

I'm on the daytona pp600 alot. Seems to be most fun of all the current online races. Seen Cashwars, Ranek and Duke of Pendle and a few other GTP'ers. I remember seeing duke of pendle thinking 'that guys got to be from the north west.' I live in Haslingden, Rossendale.

Yup, you're right.
I live on the side of Pendle (near Newchurch in Pendle), hence the moniker.
The other part of the name alludes to the 2-wheeled Italian exotica sitting in the garage.
Don't mistake me for a Northerner though, I'm a Suvverner - moved up here 5 years ago. Only just binned the phrasebook 👍

I also think that Daytona at the mo' is the most fun of the online events, purely because of the variety of cars that be competitive. It's fun when we get to work together with other GTP members to go faster.

Edit;
As much as I'd like to, I can't be joining in any chat at present - I don't have the bandwidth to support it. I'm a long way from the exchange and I only get 250K down and 350K up. However Tiscali are making some wild claims for a faster speed, so I'm gonna give them a go.

Love this event, let's go.

Will be racing this one today after 2pm'ish, Eastern time.

I suppose that it could be, I can finish the event in 7-8 mins. Alright, I will bump to 12's.

Come on in 'maven...the water's nice! Still runnin' your GTLM setup for HSR 800pp here and enjoying some podiums! But I think the gears need tweaked. The 'vettes are ruling.

First time here so testing some cars, not sure if m set ups are all that, we will see. Did have two races last night, if all goes well, means i have easy set up for anyone to use for the Amuse, GTLM and Z06 so far

Had a couple of races, some JP guys nice, clean and quick, then there's the flip side of the game, several US and the odd FR guys who bump you, not as in bump drafting but try to bump you off track so they can take a win, i suppose that because it's the oval track it appeals the lemons out there who have no idea on what a clean race is, anyhow see you on track as i go in search of a clean race 👍

The vette rules, but it doesn't stop me from beating their butts!

<----GT LM man

42.707 in free air (bump)

suggestion, change the time, too many lemons who keep appearing race after race and they have no idea how to drive

Maybe 2-14-26-38-50

43.4 in clean air...

The time is almost too long as is. I can normally complete a race within 7 mins and 30 seconds.

Would 14's be appropriate? Maybe.. But I have a firm belief that you will find Yahoo's in each race you join. It is unavoidable. I would prefer to keep the times to 12's.

I think he meant moving the start cycle to :02 instead of :00, but keeping it 12 minutes; xx:02 xx:14 xx:26 xx:38 xx:50. I've not been sccessful hooking up wih any GTPers at any time, but the majority I've raced against are good clean drivers.

I agree though, you will inevitably still get the punters no matter.

Going to be on here BUT using the Amuse for a while, apologies for the lower PP but with this car there is no choice as it's somewhat off the pace of the Z06 /Tuned and the GTLM /Tuned

With a little bit of bump drafting going on against ((loveballoon(JP) thinks thats your name, nice racing with you)) i got the Amuse into 2nd 0.08 behind leader with a finish of 7.16.9

Had a go at changing some settings today (Thursday) alas everything i did wether free run or the races i entered went wrong, that plus getting in fromwork late as made me turn off the PS3 early, unusual for me, hopefully next time my mind will be clearer and my eyes open, i hope.
