DD2 fan at 100% / DD2 cannot be turned off

Hi everyone.

I had my DD2 running really well with the Formula V2 wheel and the Podium Endurance module until a few days ago. Suddenly the Fanalab app frozen. I had to re-start the computer. After that, Fanalab would not run. It would show the splash screen and then closes. I tried uninstalling and installing it again and it did not work. Then I uninstalled Fanatec driver. Here is where the problem started:

I followed the instructions from the Forum (https://forum.fanatec.com/discussio...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet) to re-install the drivers.

After installing the Driver 356, the fan went to 100% (as described at the instructions), fan stopped after I installed firmware 670 and the motor update. At this point the base is no longer showing in the driver update software and unfortunately the base cannot be turned off (frozen). I had to use the emergency stop button to turn it off. Turning the base again, it does get recognized but the fan is back at 100%. Testing the wheel/base on the driver properties shows that all buttons and led lights are working but there is no input from the strering wheel.

I installed Driver 365 as well. Which prompted me to install Firmware 672. I also updated the motor (38) and did the calibration without the wheel as recommended. Still the same problem: either the fan is running at 100% or the DD base seems to be frozen/unresponsive and cannot be turned off.

Fanalab 1.24 beta was again installed. It now opens and it recognizes the base and wheel.

I have the Formula V2 wheel running firmware 34 and the Porsche Podium endurance module running Steering Wheel Firmware (11) and Hub Firmware (2).

I have turned off all anti-virus but still the same problem. I uninstalled all drives, deleted hidden files and anything named Fanatec, restarted Windows before installing all over again and same problem. When I tried to install the Driver 356 again, the DD base gets recognized, fan at 100% and when I try to get the properties to do the "function test"I get the following error message: "There is a problem setting up the wheel control panel, please reconnect the device and try again".

Finally followed instructions from Fanatec forum on how to remove all drivers from the PC. Re-installed all over again and still same issue.

It seems the issue is related to the motor update - the dd2 freezes after that and when re-started, the motor does not seem to be working (no input from the steering wheel) and then fan is back at 100%.

I wonder if anyone here had a similar problem and was able to have it fixed. I tried to use the website to request product support but it has a problem submitting it so I emailed them directly. I understand they are swamped with emails now. Just hope I don't have to have it replaced. Seems to be a driver/firmware problem.

Thanks

Rafa

If I remember correctly mine DD1 did something similar.
I reflashed stable firmwares (pre beta) and then flashed beta again.

You can also try to redownload (low possibility but worth a shot) maybe the file is corrupted.

Got a reply from Fanatec support asking me to uninstall, force Windows update and re-install the drivers. Did not work. I re-downloaded the files as you suggested. Not better. Here is what I did (sent this back to Fanatec support as well):

"I did as you explained. I uninstalled the drivers, forced updated Windows and then installed again. Still the same problem.

Then I found this post on the Fanatec Forum: https://forum.fanatec.com/discussio...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet

I used this method to remove all drivers/fanatec devices from my computer.

Followed these steps to install driver 356: https://forum.fanatec.com/discussio...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet

Unfortunately the same problem persists:

After updating the DD2 firmware, the fan goes to 100%
After updating the Motor firmware, the fan goes off but the wheel is frozen (logo on the display is still on) and I cannot turn it off. Once I unplug it from the wall and turn it on again, the fan is back at 100%

Now the interesting part:

I managed to get a different computer. I used this laptop before to update the CSW 2.5 that I had.

I installed driver 347. Then the Wheel Firmware was downgrade to 664. Fan went to 100%. I downgraded the motor firmware to 34, fan is off and the wheel is working! I calibrate the wheel centre and the shifter. I removed the wheel and I calibrated the motor. So far so good.

I then opened the Wheel property to test the wheel: all buttons working. The wheel FFB test works. When I turn the wheel to the left and right, the signal in the screen seems to lag and it’s choppy. I wonder if this happens because it’s an old driver/firmware.

I then connected the wheel to the gaming PC and opened iRacing. Pedals, shift all working fine. The wheel however exhibit the same behaviour as seen when I was testing it: very choppy and lagging.

Went back to the laptop and downloaded the Podium Button Module Endurance Software Package v1.2 found here: https://forum.fanatec.com/discussio...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet

I installed the driver 356, firmware 670 and then the same initial problem happened: fan at 100% and cannot turn the wheel off after updating the motor firmware.

I wonder if the problem is the Driver 356/firmware 670 combo (could the file downloaded from Fanatec Forum corrupted??). Seems like that after I used this update the problem occurred even when I used the laptop to install it. I must admit that there is something wrong on my gaming PC that did not allow me to downgrade to driver and firmware and get it to work like it did on my laptop.

I am receiving a second hard drive tomorrow and I will do a clean install on my gaming computer and the very first thing I will install will be the DD2. What driver and firmware should I be aiming to get installed and working?

Is there a possibility of file corruption on the file I downloaded from Fanatec forum?

Is there a point of manually installing the hex files (firmware)? Where can I download them?

What other steps do you suggest me to do?"
