Welcome to Deep Forest!

Rules are simple...
GT Mode: Deep Forest Normal: Practice (submit your best single lap time)
*All "standard OLR rules" apply.
Clean racing is how we'll handle this forest. :mischievous:

*The Track is defined as:
Any black pavement and the rumble strips.
Grey pavement is not part of the track!

The Cars

All cars must be at the lowest possible weight.

All cars must run as specified below.

No Race Cars (Tuners, Normal, and Concepts are allowed)

Nitrous Oxide Is Not Allowed

GT Wings Are Allowed

Any Front Engine FWD: Tuned to any level, S3 Tires Required

Any RWD: "PWR" must not drop below 3.500, S2 Tires Required

("PWR" can be found in your garage's sorting options)

S1 tires may be used on any car.

Hopefully the handicap will keep the Front Wheel Drivers in the race.
Enjoy the fun and feel free to post any questions.

Wow, this looks good. I'd participate...but I'd get owned for free :dopey:

I suck at using FWD cars. But I took a shot at it...here's the result. Btw, not sure how to post the time.

Honda Civic Type-R (EP) '04/FF/327HP/3.162 PWR/1'26.415/alrivers

Yes Swift, we will all own you for free. :sly:

alrivers,
Thanks for the contribution despite your lack of confidence (+rep points). That lap isn't bad but I bet you could use some help with the tuning. What do you say?
Why don't you post up your settings... I'll take a look, see what we can do to bring you down below 1'24.
How's that sound? Good. 👍
I'll update your time as the first to go on the board sometime when I get home tonight or this weekend.

Also, I've ammended the rules please look closely at the "other drivetrains" specs... I'm putting those cars on S2 tires. It's just one more thing I've gotta do to even out the FF's disadvantage. 👍

Until next time,

Sounds like fun, will get a car together as soon as time allows, but I do have to ask

The Cars

All cars must be at the lowest possible weight.

....why?

Thats just going to mess with my settings (and therefore my head) at Deep Forest.

I'll throw one in for now, no settings for the time being though because a) this is a bit of a chucked-together-in-a-hurry setup, b) it's this weeks Tuning Comp car and c) it's late, I've been drinking, and I can do better ;)

Hyundai Coupe FX '01: 325bhp/3.460 PWR. 1:26.533

More to come after the weekend I hope, off to watch some real life FF racers at Brands Hatch for a couple of days :D

I tweaked a few things with the suspension and tranny. Best I managed though was a 1'24.316, which is an improvement over the last time. Anywho, here's my settings on the EP

Spring rate - 11.7/9.4
Ride Height - 93/95
Shock Bound - 5/5
Shock rebound - 7/6
Camber angle - 2.1/0.5
Toe angle - 1/-3
Stabilizers - 4/5
Full custom transmission - autoset 9
Brake Balance - 6/4
Fully upgraded but has sports exhaust and stage 3 NA tuning
LSD 10/40/5

Because the last 3 years of OLR have made me synical and slow to trust a racer is doing what they say.
There's no way to prove a car is running with more weight than a stage 3 weight reduction allows... Sooo...
I'd just like to remove all the variables where problems can come up.

Should be much of a suprise or an insult... All of the arcade databases (such as gtrp) run at the lowest possible weights, that's how I'm going to do it here.
If you all think that's really a bad idea we can continue to discuss it.

Btw,
alrivers,
Keep up the good work. I'm going to try out your settings and see what might help. As of right now though it seems like they are really complex (probably too complex). So until I get back with word on that...
Later.

Its not a big problem at all, I was just interested in the reason thats all.

Will have to tweak a number of my set-ups thats all (which just means more fun).

Glad to hear that didn't ruin your fun. 👍
Excellent attitude about it too. :D

Hope to see what you've got in mind soon.

I've gone seriously 'old-school' and used a tuned version of a car I actually used to own and have watched racing in the British Touring Car Championship (many years ago).

Nissan Primera 2.0 Te (sold as the GT 2.0e in the UK)

The main spec & set-up is here

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2251200&postcount=16

So far I have not really messed with the set-up, but did take it for a quick run around DF after changing the tyres to S3's, its too stiff as the moment (no surprise as the car was tuned for Grand Valley) but still ran a lap of 1'28.203, which is not bad for its 289bhp (and the fact that its handicapped by me driving it).

That's a sweet little ride there Scaff. I must admit it suprises me to see you using that particular car (as I've never even thought to use it).
Must be a fun little ride if you're spending time to tune it and race. 👍

As for myself...:sly:
I've done a bit of racing over the last hour or so and I also got in some racing before I went to work this afternoon. Here's what I used and what the results were...

Toyota Modelista Celica TRD Sports M
295 hp / 1003 kg / 3.399 pwr
Stage 2 NA, all other parts fully tuned with all full custom and racing parts.
The most important settings are as follows:
4.1 / 3.3 Spring Rate
96 / 96 Ride Height
7 / 8 Bound
7 / 8 Rebound
1.5 / 1.5 Camber
0 / 0 Toe
5 / 5 Stabilizers
30 / 30 Downforce
50 / 60 / 10 LSD
0 / 0 / 0 Driving Aids

Final lap time: 1'23.491 (clean of course)

However, just for the fun of it, I slapped a stage 3 turbo on the car with the exact same settings as above. That resulted in 338hp and a lap time in the low 1'22 area.

I doubt I will run that much though as I don't really like taking my FFs over 300hp. :indiff:

Haha. Complicated? I guess, FF cars are a challenge for me. Nonetheless, imma keep tryin with the Civic and prolly hit the track up with a MkV GTI and some other euro front drive cars. Till then, I'm gonna concentrate on dinner. Ill be back later tonight with more results (hopefully) :)

Heres my attempt:

Trail Celica SS-II/352 Bhp/PW 2.853.

Ok, so it's extremelly powerful, and very light (at just 1003kg), but I was still thinking about downgrading the Stage 3 NA Tune, since FF's and Deep Forest isn't the best combination, and this FF happend to have over 350 Bhp.

So, off to the track I went.........

At first I could hear faint tyre screeching at any speed below 80 Mph, and I heared it all the time on hills and crests.

My first lap time was 1'27, seeing that Kent pwned that time in a much less powerful car made me drive faster. A next lap of 1'25.428, then I remebered I hadn't even set the car up, so I went to the garage to adjust some settings.

Transmission - Auto Setting 8.

Suspension.

Spring Rate - 11.3/8.5.
Ride Height - 80/80.
Damper (Bounce) - 8/8.
Damber Re Bound - 8/8.
Camber - 1.5/1.0.
Toe - 0/0.
Stabiliser - 5/5.

Parts.

NA Stage 3.
Engine Balance.
Port Polish.
Chip.

Racing Exhaust.

Fully Customable Gears.
Triple Clutch.
Racing Flywheel.

Fully Customable Suspension.

Weight Stage 1.
Wight Stage 2.
Weight Stage 3.

So with the above settings, I get back out onto the track......

I perform a 1'24.7 (best time from 4 laps), I worked out that the only thing preventing me from going faster (exept my driving) was the fact you can't add downforce to the Trail Celica, you can't fit it with a GT Auto Wing.

So, thats when I stopped, Kents a much faster driver than me anyway (;)), I had fun with this Lap Time challenge, I hope many others do aswell :).

Fastest Lap - 1'24.795 - Trail Celica SS II.

Mitsubishi FTO GPX '97/FF/376BHP/2.740/ 1'25.439/Stiggs

Theres probably a fair bit of room for improvement, managed this with a DS2 and on automatic transmisson.
3rd lap in a run of 3

Will edit settings in, in a short while cant get at my PS2 for an hour or so

Edit

I put everying on i could exept for the rollcage

Transmission -

2nd 2.045
3rd 1.505
4th 1.160

Camber - 3.2/.8.
Toe - +1/-2.
Stabiliser - 5/4.

Weight Stage 3.

after a little bit of tinkering i've managed to lower my time

Mitsubishi FTO GPX '97/FF/376BHP/2.740/ 1'25.312/Stiggs

oh if any one has any suggestions on how to improve my times im all ears

:sly:
Thanks for your time fellas. I hope you're all enjoying the theme here (I believe everyone is since there have been so many FF submissions).

On that note, I've updated the first post to show all of the times.
I hope to see continued participation from all of you as it is a great honor to me.

Btw, I'm going with a "Time Car HP Driver" approach to the results.
I'd like to showcase the cars more than the drivers. 👍
Maybe in time we will figure out a hands down "fastest FF" or "fastest FFs"?
Oh well, until next time,
-

Edit:
1'23.748 Spoon Civic on Stage 2 NA at 276 HP (stage 3 = approximately 315)

Setting up the Civic was harder than I expected. Because of the tuner suspension there are unusual settings. For example, 16/14.4 springs and 102/120 ride height.
However, the natural balance allows this car to run laps quite fast. 👍

So with that in mind, I wanted to tune for deep forest while maintaining the natural balance of the car. Here's what I came up with...
10.0 / 8.0 Springs
85 / 105 Ride Height
6 / 8 Bound
6 / 8 Rebound
0.8 / 0.3 Camber
0 / 0 Toe
4 / 4 Stabilizers
30 / 30 Down force
25 / 50 / 20 LSD

On top of those settings I used a 5 gear transmission setup so I could spend more time in the mid-range of the RPMS and get less high-rev understeer on turns like what you find at the first tunnels and the very first turn.

The lap I drove can be faster but I'm probably not going to push enough for that to come from me. However, I did notice that this car has a nasty tendency to understeer in the high side of the rev range.

Finally, I just want to mention that what made that setup work so well was the combo of springs, rideheight, and dampeners.

I think I'll do an FR run with BMW 120i, just for comparison.

*later*

BMW 120i'04 pwr:3.608 310hp time 1'22.401

Everything same as before except changed gearing

Mitsubishi FTO GPX '97/FF/376BHP/2.740/ 1'24.692/Stiggs

I think I will try my Suzuki tomorrow on this, and all of these FF cars make me
think of a car I would like to use:sly:.

1'25.146/Mazda Mazda6 5-door '03/293HP/alrivers

Well, first off I must say that I have never been this motivated to beat my own time so many times. I ran the 6 a bunch of times...for about 2 hours almost. The car started with 26.2 miles, and it now has 145 miles. Heh. The understeer and nose dive were unbearable, but after about....30 minutes of constant tuning, I made it quite neutral. Still has moderate understeer tho. That's the best I can do for now with the current settings, and I'm not sure if I wanna keep at it with the same car. Well, I had fun with it, pushed it to the max (my max at least). :P not sure wut imma use next...we'll see....

Heres a time from me

121.914 - Nissan 350Z Gran Turismo 4 Ltd. Ed. - 300BHP - East

Its a FR, with a PTW of 4.073. Apart from giving it the Stage 3 Weight Reduction, all I did was slap on a wing and go racing! This car handles very well! This is the first time i've ever used it and I have to say its now one of my favorites in the game!

See, now that's what I want from this.
I've stopped racing to be the best, the WRS showed me I would never be the absolute best.
However, I have continued racing and finding new elements of gameplay is what I'm all about.
So on that note, :cheers;
Rep to you for just letting us in on the new reason to love GT.

Here you have it... 193 miles and 3 oil changes later:

1'24.923/Honda Accord Coupe EX '03/318HP/alrivers

*edit* surprisingly, this setup is a near 6-7 second improvement over the time I got with the car when it was stock :) this was fun, but also a bit frustrating.

Have to agree its a great car, I ran one in the Virtual Track Day series and its just such an easy car to drive quickly and certainly one of my favorites in the game.

👍

Sorry for the lack of updates from me, I've had a hectic weekend (friend moving house - who quite bizzarly is a Texan living in Swindon) and have four hours travel to and from work for most of this week.

Ok here are some times.

1:21:689/Dodge SRT4 '03/504HP/AngelCreator
1:22:536/Toyota MR2 Spyder '99/244HP/AngelCreator
1:22:707/Ford Focus RS '02/410HP/AngelCreator

And I found that the Suzuki GSX-R/4 can not be used because
when you do full weight reduction the car is under the limit:(.
Ever if it has stock horsepower with no oil change.

First post updated to this point.
Plenty of new times up so I'm proud to do my part.
We're starting to see some of the first battles between FR and FF come up but it seems FF requires way more HP to win the day.

However, on that note...
I've got to honk the horn and brag about my Celica lap. :sly:
Ok, it's down the list a bit, but I'm really happy with the setup as well as the lap. That little thing is only running 340hp and 1000kg (just over 1000). It suprises me how well the Celica throttle oversteers and holds through the tricky stuff.
My lap break down had a highest speed of only 147, that's not what impressses me though. It's the rest of the lap that suprises me. Between the first tunnels I hit 59mph as my slowest speed. For the section to follow those tunnels and all the way back up the hill to the other tunnels, my slowest speed was 80 on initial braking (downhill) and then 81 at the lowest spot of the hill. Then the little 2.968 PWR Celica manages to get back to 137mph before having to brake on the tunnel exit turn.

The Celica with these settings is my favorite FF in the game right now. For some reason it just seems to flow through the course well.
However, I wouldn't go so far as to say it is "easy" to drive. It definately has wheel spin potential and the handling is closely related to your throttle/braking inputs.
None the less, I'm loving this car (TRD Celica).
