Ok, the above set of gears. First of all, you never get into 6th gear. Secondly, the gearing requires you to up-shift at points where you don't really want to, like going up hill. I like to have my gears red lining at the crest of a hill so that you can up-shift and get a added boost when you crest the hill and head on your way down. There was not much about this gearing that I liked. Just my opinion of course, we all like different settings. I'd like to see Drew's response as well.

This set of gears was a bit better. The one part that I liked the most is that these gearings allowed you to stay right in the meat of the powerband in turns 5, 6 and 7. That long tight right hand turn coming off of the long downhill. Also I didn't have to up-shift into 4th and back down into 3rd when going into turn 9. I noticed a gain of about 3 mph going through this turn. But again with these settings, you never get into 6th gear. Making use of all your gears is essential. It allows you quicker acceleration.
The first thing that I noticed about the gearing was the low final drive ratio. Low final drives are great for top speed tracks where you have ample room to run. And there much more suited to cars with high HP outputs as it takes alot more effort to turn those taller gears.
I did about 15 laps with each gear setting. I was not able to achieve times that I had with my original settings. I was close, but still not there. I've clocked in-race lap times of 1'17.6 with the gearing that I'm using, however the fastest time that I was able to get using any of the above gearings was a 1'18.1.
In overview, making use of all the gears should improve lap times. Also, having the gearing set so that you don't have to up-shift while traveling uphill would help out as well.
Hope this helps you out T.
