While theirs a lot of things in our favorite shows and movies that were cut that we wish had been added, what about the ones that you're glad were excluded and think it was better off without it? I don't see this come up very often, but I am sure it's crossed our minds before and I feel is a discussion worth having.

If you want to discuss scenes you wish had been included, go here.

An alternate ending of an original The Lion King film. This is where Scar would have died in fire as he laughed mad after he threw Simba off the cliff. It was terrifying.

I agree. I feel like it has a point it was trying to make, but in the end, it just makes me a little angry, makes Simba seem incompetent, and feels rather anti-climactic. I undoubtedly prefer the final over it, though I will admit, I would like to see them fully animate it anyway because it's still an interesting one. (that'll never happen though)

Yeah.

Prague (alternate opening) from Cars 2.

So this is a very different opening from what we got in the final and from what I have read, it was cut for being too dark and scary, a decision I thoroughly agree with. I'll give it credit though, the scenery looks like it could be interesting, the chase scene is somewhat entertaining, and Zil sure does seem like an interesting character, more so than Professor Z or Miles Axlerod in my opinion. That ending, however, was just WAY too much. Seeing Leeland Turbo all crushed up at the beginning of the movie was bad enough and I really hated the scene where Rod Redline was tortured then later killed. I thought both were a bit too dark, especially in contrast to the first movie, but this scene, however, was worse than both of them combined in my opinion. It's just entirely too dark even for this movie, or any Pixar movie really, and it just rubs me the wrong way and makes me a little angry. They were so right to leave this scene out because something like this just doesn't belong in the cars franchise in my opinion.

I agree. I was angry that Cars 2 is rated G instead of rated PG while it has dark contents like violence and deaths. Yeah, Cars 2 is one of the movies that should have been rated PG.

I have another answer. The "Lost" deleted scene of Cars 1. It's where Lightning McQueen would have accidentally got himself lost in a graveyard of old cars while trying to find Mack. Yep, it would have been terrifying if it was animated... :scared:

Eh, I watched that one yesterday and it's a little creepy, but it doesn't bother me much at all knowing the Prague alternate opening scene from Cars 2 exists.

While we're on Cars 1, here's one I really don't like.
Community Service from Cars 1.

The characters being able to move from one body to another is just weird and I really do not like the idea of McQueen being a steamroller. However, my biggest problem with this scene is Mater's portrayal. I don't like how he's portrayed here because he just seems like such a jerk and comes off more like a villain in the movie rather than a close friend to McQueen, all of which just seems too far out of character for him. While I'm aware this scene is just a nightmare McQueen is having and nothing more, Mater driving off in McQueen's body and leaving McQueen as a steamroller to fix the road is just too much dramatic irony for me. I know McQueen was quite a jerk in Cars 1, and maybe it's been too long since I have watched it again, but I actually feel bad for him in this scene, even if it's just a dream. It kind of gives me vibes from the "Wrong Buzz" and "Woodie's Nightmare" scenes in Toy Story 2, and while they're not deleted scenes, I am not fond of either one.

In the end, I just don't like this scene for the reasons stated above and since most of it is only a dream, it's kind of pointless anyway, so I am really glad this was cut from the movie. What we got in the final is so much better.

Edit: New video since the old one was taken down.

I agree. I don't like an idea of Mater being a jerk! I prefer Bessie rather than the steamroller body for obvious reasons.

Pretty much all the deleted scenes that found their way into the Directors Cut of Donnie Darko.

Black Friday reel of Toy Story.

I don't like how Woody was evil in it. He was originally meant to be a villain. I hate how he was very mean to Andy's other toys and how he was unapologetic about his atrocious actions such as throwing Buzz Lightyear out of the window. Yep, being unapologetic about his atrocious actions could damage Woody's friendships with Andy's other toys. :grumpy:

You know, I saw this in my feed recently and I feel dumb for not posting about it already. I don't blame Lassiter one bit for finding it hard to watch nowadays because it really is and I can only imagine how much worse it is for the creator. Woody may have been a bit of a jerk in the final as well, but he goes WAY too far in here. Compared to the final, he's flanderized to the point of being very unlikable and the way he talked to Slinky is nothing less than despicable. While Buzz, Sarge and I guess Potato Head's personalities seem largely the same as the final, I can't say I like the other characters either. This whole scene just rubs me wrong and the only part I genuinely like is hearing the full extent of Sarge's dialogue with Woody, which gets cut off in the final.

Yea I am very very glad that this was cut from the movie, probably one of the best examples of a scene that's better off left out of the movie in my opinion. Between this and the Prague (alternate opening) in Cars 2, I am not sure which I dislike more, kind of leaning towards the former.

There was actually quite a lot of scenes of The Bad Guys that got cut and I'm glad they did.

There is like 4 revisions to the character introduction scenes, prior Snakes birthday was never mentioned so I assume what we got was made because taking place on Snakes birthday was came up with. The movie was better for it as it allowed for a lot more character interaction which let you know the characters more and get into them.

There was also a scene where Snake abandons Wolf's plan to try and eat Marmalade. I'm glad it got cut because if that was kept, Snake would look like a hypocrite when he gets mad about Wolf abandoning the plan later. This removal allows Snake have a sense of loyalty.

Speaking of Marmalade, there was meant to be a scene where he asks about the meteorite in a military base. Obviously cut because that would just give away the already predictable twist

Alternative ending to the Abyss. I guess technically it wasn't an alternative ending, but it was near the end. It basically tried to explain that the creatures knew lots about humanity and were pissed about the perceived attack. Absolutely gutted the atmosphere created by the movie.

The deleted scene from Clerks was the final scene; a robber comes into the Quick Stop and shoots Dante dead.

It would have ruined an otherwise excellent film.

The alternate opening of Bumblebee

The Bumblebee film was originally meant to be both connected to The Last Knight's World War II story and a solo prequel of the Transformers 2007 film. I am glad that they replaced this alternate opening with the Cybertron scene as they changed this film to the reboot film due to the failure of The Last Knight. Yep, the Transformers 2007 film franchise had a confusing and messed up timeline due to the fact that The Last Knight revealed that Bumblebee arrived on Earth for World War II in 1940s along with Hot Rod while the Transformers Beginning comic revealed that Bumblebee arrived on Earth in 2000s. It would have been impossible for Bumblebee to come back to Cybertron after World War II.

Embo's original death in Star Wars The Clone Wars.

Originally, in season 2, he was supposed to die in the episode he premiered in, but thank goodness he didn't. From the very first time I saw him, I thought he was awesome, fun to watch and had a lot of potiental. Killing him off in the very first episode he appeared in would have been a total waste of a good character. They were right to let him survive because his future appearances in later episodes was something to get excited for and if the show was still going, he still would be.

Alternate opening of the Tarzan 1999 film

This film was originally meant to be began with Sabor killing Tarzan's father. Yeah, I am glad that Disney removed this alternate opening because it would have scared children... it was terrifying... :nervous:

I agree. I like the scene, I do wish the deaths of his parents could have been shown and I think it could work as an opening to another version of the movie, but it all just seems a bit too dark for this one. They were right to cut it, but at the same time, I do wish they had at the very least animated it and maybe given you the option to watch it with the full movie on DVD and Blu-Ray like Ice Age did.

On a related note, much like Cars 2, I find it rather strange that this movie was also rated G. Neither of these seems like G-rated movies to me given how violent they are at times.

The 747 sequence of Lilo and Stitch

Yep, I posted this video since today is the Patriot Day. And Stitch and his friends were originally going to steal the 747 plane to rescue Lilo from Gantu, chasing him through Honolulu. I am glad that Disney replaced this scene with a scene where they used a big spaceship to rescue Lilo, chasing Gantu through the mountain area because of the 9/11 attack. Yep, my grandfather's old friend died in the 9/11 attack. :(

Before I even watched it I was already in agreement with you and after looking at it just now, I agree even more! Removing it from the film was a good call.

Alternate Simba Decides To Return from The Lion King (1994).

So this is an alternate scene for when Simba decides to return to pride rock and I am not entirely sure why it was cut, but in spite of a majority of the commenters on the video, I am glad we didn't get this. Why? Well, here are my thoughts:
  • Right off the bat, Simba just lacks the confidence he has in the final when he makes his decision and I just don't like that much. Sure he might've struggled with the idea of returning to Pride Rock in the final, but once he made up his mind, he was eager to go back. Not only that, but I don't like how he turned down Nala's help either. I get he loves her and is wanting to protect her, but considering she's a lion and can still pin him in a fight as shown in the movie, turning down her help (which he absolutely needs) just doesn't seem smart on his end. Just like what I said about the alternate ending earlier, this scene also makes Simba seem incompetent to what we get in the final.
  • Nala just seems a bit of out character here. She went all that way to find Simba, but then suddenly doesn't want him to go back anymore. She seems to care more about her personal relationship with him than her responsibilities which made her go out to find him in the first place, the latter of which is what ultimately matters most.
  • Perhaps my biggest problem here is Timon's character. While I expect him to be a bit reactionary, he just goes too far, gets way too dramatic, and seems a bit flanderized from what we get in the final. For starters, I really don't like how he talks to Nala here. Him saying she doesn't understand and then proceeding to blame her if something happens to him later just seems incredibly insensitive of him and I am surprised Nala didn't have any reaction to this. And then theirs the fact he refers to Simba as a "dope" and later an "idiot" for wanting to leave. I get he doesn't want to lose his friend, but he didn't have to say those things to him. And lastly, the fact it prompts Pumba to disregard Timon just doesn't seem right since the 2 always stay by each other's side. Timon may be more within his character here than Nala, but he just seems slightly less likable here.
I'll give it credit though, I like how it gives us a closer look at Simba and Nala's relationship and Pumba's speech to Timon, but that's about it. Now I will admit since this is an early concept, I could be misjudging this scene because it could be like the river crossing deleted scene from the movie Dinosaur and be based on an entirely different script. And I could also be misjudging Timon and Pumba since I ain't seen The Lion King 1 1/2 and their TV show in many years. However, in the context of the final movie, some parts of this scene just don't work and I am glad they left it out of the movie. What we got in the final is a lot better and they were right to choose it over this.

Mufasa's song "To Be King" from The Lion King (1994).

Don't know why I have suddenly been looking at The Lion King again, but what we have here is Mufasa, Zazu, and the other animals singing to Simba about what it is to be a king. I have seen some people say it was cut because Mufasa's voice actor (James Earl Jones) couldn't sing the song and they couldn't find a suitable voice actor for it. While I don't know if this is true or not, I have good reason to believe it because James Earl Jones also voiced Darth Vader in Star Wars and I have heard other people try to voice him in video games, but due to his distinct voice, none of them have ever sounded as good as him. Seeing as he voiced Mufasa in this movie as well, it's not difficult to imagine why finding someone to fill in for him would be a challenge. So why am I glad this was cut? Well:
  • Mufasa having a singing role in this movie just doesn't fit his character. If anything, giving him such a role I think ruins his character more than anything.
  • Whoever voiced Mufasa for the singing role doesn't sound too much like him. Again, I get why this would be the case due to James Earl Jones having such a distinct voice, but I can't help but disapprove of it anyway. At first, I thought this was a temporary voice actor, but no, this apparently was what they intended to use in the movie had it made its way there.
  • What's up with Zazu here? He's hyping it all up about what it is to be king here, when not much later in the movie, he does the exact opposite in "I Just Can't Wait To Be King". One could argue he may have had a change of heart after witnessing Simba's attitude, but it still seems rather contradictive to have him act like this because I just don't see Zazu as one to speak to Simba like this.
To be fair, I think the song is actually pretty good and it sounds exactly like something I would hear in the movie. The fact it is intended for Mufasa is really the biggest problem I have here since he really doesn't need a singing role. Fortunately, what we got in the final was his morning lesson to Simba and while it may have a lot less going on, I think it worked out better and was more within Mufasa’s character.

The surface scene from The Spongebob Squarepants Movie

NOTE: it starts at 0:20.

In this scene, Spongebob and Patrick were originally going to meet Sandy on the surface after Spongebob and Patrick finally received King Neptune's crown from the Shell City shop. Patrick vomited when he saw Sandy's looks as she was on land. Yep, I am glad that it was cut.

Reasons:
  • Patrick vomiting. Yep, that's gross. :yuck:
  • This scene doesn't make any sense and is confusing due to Sandy being on land as she was already enslaved by Plankton. Yep, this would cause a canon error in that movie. Canon errors can lead to failures and make it very difficult to follow actual canons.
Yeah, I would like to see human versions of Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. :D

Agreed! I generally don't like seeing someone vomit on screen, especially when I can actually see the vomit itself. :yuck: In fact, I hate the vomiting emoji for this very reason.

In the context of the final, yes. However, I have a strong feeling this was like the aforementioned river crossing scene from Dinosaur in the sense that it was based on a totally different script and one that likely included Sandy not being enslaved by Plankton.
Yeah, I would like to see human versions of Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. :D
Now that I agree with! While we may not have got it in the movie, we did get to see the voice actors play out their usual roles in live action in the episode "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout" and it's surprisingly good!

Optimus Prime punching Ratchet in Transformers Prime

Source: Here.

In the "Stronger, Faster" episode, Optimus Prime was supposed to punch Ratchet in the face after he was blaming Optimus Prime for not fighting Megatron sooner and not saving Elita-One during the war on Cybertron. I am glad that this was cut because punching Ratchet would have ruined Optimus Prime's character and have made him lose his cool.

Old version of "Be Prepared" from The Lion King

Okay, unless I find one I haven't seen yet, that'll be the last time I post about The Lion King here. So this is a scene where Scar realized he needs a queen and quickly picks out Nala, only to be rejected by her. Then he threatens to ban her from Pride Rock, and the others disapprove, so he introduces the hyenas and we get another version of "Be Prepared" and Nala eventually runs off. According to this video, it was cut because it just went on too long and was a bit creepy. Why am I glad it was cut though?
  • Firstly I agree with them, it does go on a bit too long and the first few minutes of it are just boring.
  • Secondly, Scar is just plain creepy here and I don't like how he talks to Nala. Although people in the comments have said this sort of thing has been done by Disney before, I still don't think it belongs in The Lion King.
  • Although I kind of liked the dynamic between Scar and the hyenas in here at first, as a person who has listened to the original “Be Prepared” a lot lately, the more I have watched it, the less I approve of it. I think the hyenas take too much away from the song here and yes I know they were in the original too, but they do a lot better there than here in my opinion.
  • Although the song is different from the original, hearing them reprise it after we already heard it earlier in the movie, just doesn't seem necessary to me and would have felt repetitive having to hear it again. To be fair though, the movie Pocahantas and possibly more have reprised a song within the movie itself before and it can be good when done right, Pocahantas being an example of this, but this scene here is not one of them in my opinion.
Credit where credit is due though, I do like how Zazu stands up to Scar in this scene and although I may not like how Scar talks to Nala here, I have to admit it does fit his character, seems like something he would do and it makes sense why he would want a queen. Also, I actually laughed at how Shenzi nearly exposed Scar for murdering Mufasa in the song only to be quickly cut off, and although her reason is different here, it does provide more context on why Nala left Pride Rock, something the final barely touched on.

Still, I am glad we didn't get it because it goes a bit too far given the kind of movie it is, and seems rather unneeded. What we got in the final though, was the scene where Scar takes the position of king and introduces the hyenas, and although it's shorter and has less going on, I personally think it was a better scene than what we could have gotten here.

Death of Pudge the fish in the Lilo and Stitch film.

In this scene, when Lilo showed Pudge to Stitch, he slapped Pudge out of her hands. Lilo was trying to save Pudge, but sadly, seagulls came to peck Pudge to try to eat this fish as Lilo was upset by the seagulls. Stitch laughed as he watched this. When Lilo realized that Pudge died, she was angry at Stitch for letting Pudge die. Then he felt guilty. Lilo sadly picked Pudge's dead body up and buried it near her parents' graves. A while after Stitch saw her parents' graves, he cried as he was out of the graveyard.

Yeah, I am glad that this was cut.

Reasons:
  • This scene was too dark and too depressing for the film.
  • In this scene, Stitch was a jerk for laughing at the death of Pudge. He would be more unlikeable than in the final version if this scene wasn't cut. Laughing at the deaths of our loved ones is not funny. This is rude. Yep, the removal of this scene led to Pudge being still alive in the Lilo and Stitch franchise and Stitch being still likable while he is silly.

Wall O' Snakes in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

In this scene, Puss had stolen a map from his two friends, Pierro and Kitty, and ditched them to get more lives, but he reached the Wall O' Snakes and tried to climb it. He fell onto the ground when he was scared by snakes. Then Pierro called him out for his actions such as stealing a map, but he threw a stick at Pierro's face. Yep, I am very glad that this was cut.

Reasons:
  • There are people with ophidiophobia(fear of snakes). They would be scared when they watched Puss try to climb the Wall O' Snakes.
  • This scene would have ruined Puss' character because of wrongful actions like stealing a map. He would be unlikable if this scene wasn't deleted.
I prefer the scene where Puss realized how much of a jerk he was when he was trapped in some cave with his past lives in the final version of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish over this deleted scene.
