Did Gran Turismo AI Improve Over The Years?

I'm glad to see a few more favourable ToCA comments.
It's too bad more GT players don't give it a run.

Cheers,

MasterGT

I'm almost afraid to try ToCA! It's gonna take several years for me to complete GT4 as it is...and there's another awesome race game out there?

There's a couple copies of ToCA over at my local EB games....I'll eventually need to delve into the mix. :nervous:

If the AI in GT games has improved, I've never really noticed, it's still too easy to cream unless you handicap yourself.

I ahree that Toca's ai bosses it, in Toca your hear really does start pumping when you're neck and neck with a foe going into a chicane. The clock is the hardest opponent in GT4, and that's just not good enough, at least Forza had the online mode and opposition that remembers you. (When you hit them)

I dont think the AI has improved any, their still retarded either way you look at it, even if your clearly in their sight of vision, and you corner properly, they still follow their set line and ram into you, and i hate it on the Special Condition races when YOU get the penaltly 👎

I just look at gt4 ai as those people that talk about cars and parts to make their cars faster (the guys that talk the talk but can't walk or crawl)...It would explain their driving habits...with their tunnel vision. 💡

What?

Huh, I have some stuff to say here. Okay I was on Amalfi reverse doing the special conditions race for some easy money. So after the first super tight hair-pin, I pass and continue with the race with my GT-One(yes, 001 A-Spec point earned). While I'm on the 2nd straight I realize that his position on the map isn't even moving and laugh. I then cruise through to the 1st straight to finish off my lap. AND GUESS WHAT? He was at the hairpin. He was driving and reversing into the wall of the turn! I stopped, then passed through the turn without collision. That's all that happened but it was hilarious.

Actually I hate it when the computer crashes into me. Even my B-Spec driver needs to hop on the short bus. My driver was on Steady-Overtake. Instead of overtaking, he drove straight forward into the turn while pinning the computer into the dirt. But then he went on to win the race for me.

I know that every AI has flaws and most have huge flaws, but GT AI was always kinda bad. I can't really remember how it was in GT2, but I can't remember any complaints about AI. GT3 AI never really pissed me off though, but I guess it was because it was bad but not "noticeably bad". GT4 AI makes me laugh and cry. When they cost me championships by ramming into me, they make me cry.

To show how terrible the GT4 AI is, I will make a very risky comparison. Look below.

Gran Turismo 4 AI: 2/10

Need for Speed AI: 5/10

As I said, it's a risky comparison. GT4 is still the better game by far.

EDIT: Please don't kill me!!!!!!!:nervous::nervous::nervous:

Oh, I don't wanna kill you! :) I'm just curious why specifically you think N4S has better Ai? Like, give us some reasons.

Personally, I've only dabbled with Need 4 Speed games. Are you talking about the N4S games in general or a specific N4S game?

i agree.., if GT4 AI is coming at you fast, they don't care if they hit you, whereas in NFS, they care a lot about their stickers and paint scheme..,

and uh, Parnelli Bone, welcome back to GTP bud.., ;)👍

The only problem I have with the AI is their passing logic, or lack thereof. I don't use B-spec mode nearly enough to care much about their blind adherence to the game's occasionally poor driving line.

Yeah you're right. As I said earlier in this thread, I've noticed the Ai tends to drive with more caution if you're going the same speed as they are, as if it's trying to out-think you into corners. Also, if you have a 5 lap race, the Ai will drive harder in the later laps as they get more of a clue as to how their car is handling and what they can get away with. To me, this indicates that the Ai isn't totally clueless.

Also I've noticed this: there are times (I swear) when it seems the Ai deliberately tries to get you sideways. Like they'll get behind you as you're slowing for a corner, and then they'll do one of those moves the police employ when they're trying to stop a fleeing motorist by skewing you sideways into a spin. It's dirty, but does it imply intelligence? Is the Ai doing this because they desperately want you off the track? Or are they simply trying to follow a racing line and don't realize you're there?

I think they know what they're doing. Reason is: they'll deliberately take their car out of the proper racing line, approach you, and try to spin you. :scared: Know what I mean?

But you're right...when you're just leaving a pit-stop or rolling on the track slowly, the Ai will totally smash you as if you're not even there. Stupid.

thanks, I appreciate it. After all these years, I've finally switched from dial-up to broadband. :D

hey, i just had an experience like that last night, in the All American GT Championships. i was driving a Camaro SS LM in the championship, we were at New York, i think that was in Race 4.., at the long straight before the sequence of square corners, i braked hard. then suddenly, the old Corvette Race Car came rushing at me and as i saw him from my rear view mirror, he smashed me into the wall!! i got mad, "oh, so you want to play Burnout, huh??!!" up next comes the left-hand square corner, i did not brake because i wanted to smash him too!! and i did, bull's eye!! 100% smack right on the target, LOL  i couldn't help but laugh as a saw him hit the wall at about 100+mph XD .., ah well, just goes to show you that GT4 AI is still "bad", if you know what i mean.., :P

thanks, i appreciate it. After all these years, i've finally switched from dial-up to broadband. :D

no problem here, i can just go outside of the house and to an internet cafe if i wanted to.., :D

Normally when doing a race in NFS you can be heading for traffic right next to another racer. If the AI has a chance he will go on the side your not on. They are aware of your position. Unlike in GT4 if your right next to an AI it's imminent that you will get bumped.

Yeah, AI in NFS even move out of the way of a car that crashed most of the time, if I crash, I sometimes just sit there until they passed me (or I will get hit really hard into who knows what kind of situation), that's how dim-witted they can be. I usually leave it to B-Spec though, and I can't tell you how many times he missed the pit stop on Nurburgring.
