Today, I went to the Moscow Raceway by train. And there were some integesting spots near the railways.
The Rizhskiy railway station has a train museum. I didn't enter it, but I was able to see some exhibits from the platform.
Some old steam locomotives and carriages.
The black loco in the middle is the legendary
Э-type locomotive, nicknamed
Echo (
Э is pronounced as [ae]), produced in 1912-1957. Developed in the Russian Empire, the Э-series was of great use by the communists as well. The Echos were widely used during the World War II to transport army units and supply them.
The world's most numerous steam loco, with the number of ~11,000 units built.
This one is the Эм version (sometimes called
Emma or
Emka), produced in 1931-34.
So, I arrived to the Chismena station, the closest to the raceway. And what I've found there...
BMP-2 - the infantry fighting vehicle - on a railway cargo platform.
It was guarded by the soldiers, and they looked menacingly at me when they saw me with a camera, so I didn't risk getting any closer, to avoid any trouble. Just in case.
